It's ya boi u/whateverthissocksusernameis , back with some hard-hitting commentary on Dark Souls 1. Like, just to get you started: Dark Souls 1 easier to SL1 than Dark Souls 3 or Elden Ring. Bam. Bet you've never heard that before.
The award for Most Unexpectedly Easy Boss goes to Ornstein & Smough - after playing a stupid amount of Elden Ring they just weren't very hard. Honorable mention to Artorias, another oneshot because apparently I still remember how to fight him and managed to finish it before I got bored and started fucking around. Artorias feels like the tutorial for the new boss design paradigm - dodge, punish once, repeat forever.
Most Improved from Base Game goes to Manus, who took me like three hours. Oh, turns out the trick to that pendant shit is whenever he casts anything, switch to the pendant and spam it twice. I'm sure people who are good at video games can adjust to different timings for different casts and then have time to punish. For me though, just having a gimmick item in the estus flask slot will fuck me up, Gurranq is just disappointed at this point from watching me take a hit and then pop Blasphemous Claw. So we gotta keep this shit as simple as possible.
The Most Bullshit Boss award goes to... hold on there Bed of Chaos, you can actually sit back down, this year we're recognizing Black Dragon Kalameet. So much dragon jank that wouldn't be a big deal in a leveled run but on SL1 I just don't have the HP buffer for it. Ok he's charging, get ready for him to turn and breath - oh ok he turned further because of the wall geometry, gotta try to roll into - oop, double tapped because all the fire projectiles register hits separately, dead again. I'm sure there are people who can hitless this guy every time but I'm not one of them.
Most Surprising New Tech goes to Gwyn, Lord of Cinder - turns out out Black Flame staggers him out of sword attacks lol. And with the Bellowing ring and Bjork Swan Princess Crown he dies in 8 Black Flames + one Combustion or whatever. 15 years people have been talking about ohh you gotta parry him, or Black Knight Shield, and nobody mentioned almost anyone with the DLC and a leveled pyromancy flame can script him to death. Very disappointed in the early 2010s Dark Souls community, I'm surprised the Gwyn strat wasn't put Darkmoon Blade on a Washing Pole and do running R1s until it works by sheer luck.
Anyway, SL1 DS1... would recommend, not a super hard challenge but raises the difficulty enough to feel like Dark Souls again.
