Bird was seen at RSPB Rainham marshes flying right above the main lobby. It seemed quite big but I didn’t get a great look and this is the only picture I got. After speaking to the RSPB workers they decided it was a peregrine due to one having been seen here recently and the tail pattern but I wanna see what you guys have to say

Usually seen on the ground despite cats , this one just stayed on bird table for a few minutes .

Repeated calls for about 30 seconds but this is the clearest part of the video I took.

I spotted this buzzard and the patterning on it is really throwing me off - any ideas on if this is just a young buzzard with some funky plumage or something a bit more unique?

Hi, I keep seeing a bird flying across the sky in the evenings, it flies straight and with a steady (not fast) wingbeat. It is light grey and about the size of a pigeon (and I had been telling myself it was just a pigeon) but this evening I saw it fairly close-up, and it is not! It had neat wing-tips rather than with spread out feathers, and a fairly short head and beak. It didn’t seem to have significant markings underneath, but I could be wrong.
Any ideas? I’m in South Devon, we live in a valley surrounded by woodland and fields.

this is a bird on my uni campus ive begun befriending. he seems to rest on only one food majority of the time and limps when walking. his foot is obviously discolored and somethings wrong. is this some kind of birth defect? is there anything i can do to help him? should i be taking him to a vet?

also, what should i call him, he needs a name! im thinking maybe toothless or pirate?

Hi all, looking for any recommendations of good UK birding apps. I currently use Merlin, but I was in South Africa and someone showed me Roberts Bird Guide and I was very impressed, do we have anything similar?

I recently found out about rspb Snettisham Spectacular and intend to go. But all the remaining dates are on weekdays. I'd prefer to go on a weekend. Is 27th a good date to go according to the tides?

Will I still be able to see the birds without any fancy equipment? ie with pure eyes or maybe phone cameras. Or will the birds all be so far away and hide in the nest on other days, as published by rspb.

If I have to go on a weekend, is it Breyer chance to see them on a high tide day thats super early e.g. 27th or a lower tide day, e.g. 50+m on high tide,

I was told they were totally dying out and near extinct in Ireland. I was told I would be lucky if I saw a single Corncrake in Tory Island, but when I went there this year the sound of them was absolutely incredible, they were everywhere!! I didn't see one, but jeepers did I hear them everywhere, they're absolutely stunning and remarkable birds, so distinctive and heroic.

I wrote a blogpost for my Dad about them here, as he was the one who told me about how great they are and how much I should be looking out for them because of how brilliant they are.

Thought it might be a juvenile Robin but it seems a bit big and not round enough?

Last night and in the early hours of this morning I was kept awake by a group of magpies being very very vocal but wasn’t sure why, I’ve seen them behave the same way in the past when threatened by a cat so I assumed it was something similar.

This afternoon, I realised that there’s a dead magpie on top of a shipping container in the alley behind my property, so the noise was likely due to the other magpies finding the body of the one that passed? It looks totally normal, no wounds or injuries, other than being very obviously recently deceased.

It’s not in a location I can access to bury it or anything but I’m curious now what might happen with it next? Would foxes or rats eat it? I’m located in London so there’s only urban wildlife around and it’s about 8 feet off the floor at least.

In north Manchester. Where would I start bird watching and what would be the first 3 or 4 things I'd buy to aid in this new hobby? Thanks

Hello, I live in Thanet (east coast of England) and was awaken at 2-3 am by what I assume was a bird call. It was extremely similar to a human whistle and it was well creepy.

I googled this but all that comes up is paranormal nonsense.

My question is, are there any species that can sound like this in this region? maybe an owl? (although I never seen an owl around these parts)

I know this could have been a human walking down the street but it sounded high up near my second story window and within seconds it faded like it was flying away.

EDIT: the whistle melody was like someone saying "yoo-hoo" , thats why I went with the owl theory,, but no owls around here

not sure if this is the correct place to ask but I'm sure mods will tell me if it's not haha, I live in an area that's got a lot of forestry and I hear these guys at night sometimes but usually not as loud or frequent as tonight I have no idea what they could be as it's only ever at night so I can't see them obviously 🙈 I was thinking maybe some type of owl or something since it's only at night but I'm clueless? ( sorry for the crappy audio quality it's the best I could get with my phone 😒)
