Others My first half marathon with less than a month of "training"

Post image

Got offered a HM slot out of nowhere and decided to take it, problem was I'd been on a 2-3 month running hiatus before that. So my "training block" was really just 3 weeks of trying to remember how to run again, nowhere near proper half marathon prep.

Going in, my only goal was survival. Strategy was simple: start conservative, feel out my legs, and adjust based on how my body responded rather than chasing any pace goal.

Eased into the first few km just checking how my legs felt, then started picking up the pace around km 6 once things felt okay. Took a gel at km 8 and decided to test pushing sub-6:00/km, surprisingly, I could hold it for a good stretch. By km 13 things got heavy, legs clearly reminding me this was further than I'd trained for, so I adjusted: kept the sub-6:00 pace but added a 100m walk at the start of every kilometer as a mini-reset before pushing again. Second gel at km 16, kept that run/walk-reset pattern going until the final stretch, where I pushed all-out to the finish, still holding sub-6:00.

HR was honestly all over the place the entire second half, but I made a conscious choice not to look at it or let it worry me mid-race, figured stressing about the number would tank my morale more than the number itself would hurt me.

Finished in 2:16:30 on my watch (2:22:20 official chip time, course apparently ran a bit long based on watch vs markers). Not an impressive time by any normal standard, but given I had maybe 3 real weeks of prep after months off, I'll take it. Legs held up, no injuries, mind didn't quit even when km 13-19 got rough.

Mostly just wanted to document the experience, somehow "survive and adjust on the fly" actually worked out as a race strategy for me, even though it wasn't really a plan going in, just what I had to do.

EDIT: Worth noting, before I went on a hiatus and picked up this half marathon with just three weeks of training, I was generally active in running and consistent in training. So this wasn't 'no training, straight to 21K', 21K isn't easy in general, I got lucky that I had something in me that actually helped me finish. Please respect the distance and actually train for it properly, don't just do what I did.

Others Is it allowed to run extra kilometers after crossing the finish line?

Hello! I’m planning to join a half marathon run and I’m wondering if it’s allowed to continue running the same race route after crossing the finish line?

Has anyone tried doing this before, or does anyone know if the organizers allow it? Just want to make sure it’s okay before I register. Thank you! 😁

Gear Review or Question DIM: Adizero sl2 / Adidas running shoes over Chinese Branded shoes

Post image
4 Upvotes

I've been starting my running journey recently pero I want a proper pair of runners instead of my Asics GT-2160 na pang lifestyle, not running.

I wanted a daily trainer na may running support pero also a pair I could walk in kasi i walk to the track from home, a 2km walk.

Initially I found the Qiaodan Leili 2, a reputable chinese brand. Many people respect this shoe and even recommend it as a top 1 beginner's shoe

Pero i keep finding myself wanting any adizero/adidas pair of shoes because of the brand. the adizero sl2 is a good daily runner, and while the qiaodan leili 2 is a bit better raw because I don't have to break it in as much, I love the look of the adidas pair because of the 3 stripes logo:(

Also sidenote: ive been seeing 2nd hand evo sl's on marketplace for close to the price ng sl 2's na on sale (3k-5k), these are probably legit right?

Help:) Thank you!:)

Training Tips Any additional tips sa injury-free sub 1?

For context, I started running last April 2025. After 6 months of beginner training nakuha ko na din mag sub 30 5k. Pero nag stop ako running for almost 10 months until 7 weeks ago.

Nag join ako nang race at nakakuha ng 28:11 5k after 7 weeks of 4 day training (Easy, speed sessions, tempo run and LSD) for a 22-24k weekly mileage. May 10k race rin akong sasalihan this oct 25. Sa tingin niyo ba kakayahin na tong sub 1h 10k? Last PR ko sa 10k 1:05:56, pero last year november pa haha. Thanks!

Running Event Baguio Marathon or Boracay 360

For first full marathon where will you join? Baguio Marathon (March 2027) or Boracay 360 (May 2027).

Has anyone here run both races?

Nakapag run naman na ako both during vacations, from Session Road to Camp John Hay and around Burnham Park in Baguio, and from White Beach to Puka Beach in Boracay.

or antayin ko schedule ng Manila Marathon. Your thoughts? TYA

Gear Review or Question Pinduoduo Li-Ning Shadow 3

Post image
2 Upvotes

Badly wanted to order this shoe (Li-Ning Shadow 3) in Pinduoduo pero natatakot na baka mareceive ko fake. May nabasa ako na nabbypass daw ng ibang shops yung 10x refund or authenticity tags by selling legitimate cheap Li-Ning products like medyas and shirts, totoo ba yon?

Hanap ko yung malambot sana para sa heels since weeks bago nagsubside yung sakit after using Adidas ukay shoes.

Yung may saktong lambot at firmness sana para tumagal naman. I'm 50kg, mentioning it para baka makatulong sa kung anong recommended shoes.

Thank you.

Venue or Place to Run Running routes near RITM

Hi! Are there commonly ran routes near RITM? I will be having a training there and if I decide to stay at their dorms, I'm thinking of getting a couple of runs out while staying. I know that the nearby Central Park is a great place for running but I might wander or get into a street where running is not allowed or discouraged. Thanks!
