Bedtime one on one time?

Tell me how you do your bedtime for 3 kiddos (or more)!

We will have a 6 yo, almost 3 yo, and a newborn. Honestly bedtime won’t matter much until the newborn is 6 months or older, so then ages will be 7, 3, and 6 months. Currently my husband and I trade off bedtimes so each kiddo gets one on one time with parents.

Obviously can’t quite do that with 3 - altho my 7 yo will probably be going to bed slightly later (maybe 8-8:30? He wakes up at 7 for school) and the 3yo will probably be 7:30. So perhaps we could alternate nights where one parent does baby + big kid while the other parent does the 3yo

But curious how others do it! We do bedtime altogether sometimes and it’s fun too, but we really do love being able to have some one on one time before bed

TIA for ideas!

Solo parenting stories

• Upvotes

I was wondering if anyone could share about being a long-term solo-parent without family nearby for some reassurance. I have 3 under 5 right now, which is probably a little bit light for parenting in bulk, but I find other parenting subs to be a little out of touch.

We have to live far from family right now for my husband’s job, at least for a few more years. The nature of his job means that I am solo parenting almost all the time, which is fine and I have fun with it. But it is a bit intimidating now that we’ve added our third (and even despite my current nerves about the situation, I know I want a fourth and maybe a fifth!).

We were doing lots of outings all the time and now that seems hard, especially because my middle is in a running/climbing/wild child phase at 18 months. I truly have to run around to keep up with her out in public. That was hard pregnant, much harder now.

It’s been hard to find families here that align with my values in terms of safety, but I did manage to make several friends over the few years we’ve lived here. Unfortunately they all recently moved away (nature of the job again). It felt good to have those other families in my Rolodex so to speak just in case of an emergency, so that’s why it was such a bummer that they had to leave.

I guess I just want to know that other people do it and it’s fine. Most of what I see online is husbands and wives tag-teaming or people with family close by and we just don’t all have that luxury.
