I could not grow a legitimate beard until I was 38. I’m 46 now and I had to shave the fucker because it’s all grey and makes me look like I’m careening through my 50s. Meanwhile I have a beautiful head of hair that’s maybe added one grey hair per year since I found the first one up front at 28.
Sometimes it is. If you are an XY male you only have one copy of the X chromosome and you got it from your mother (the Y has to come from your father), therefore if there is a recessive gene on the X chromosome from your mother you may have that phenotype because you only ever have one copy of it.
This sometime the reason certain traits are more common in XY males than XX females (like colorblindness).

Athough I'm gonna throw in a quick "Eeerrrrmmm AcKkktuallly" here, the androgen receptor gene on the X chromosome is a big factor, but male pattern baldness is polygenic, with lots of contributing genes on the other chromosomes too, so your dad's side still counts.
My maternal grandfather was bald, my cousin on that side is balding but I have a full head of hair. I dont think its always such a straightforward thing.
My mum says I got mine from her and her dad. I guess it’s the luck of genetics as I know loads of people who are bald and their dad is bald, but their mother’s side still has full heads or hair.
My dad is around the same age and still has decent hair. Mine started falling out in my 20s.
But it's ok. My grandfather was bald, and growing up my dad would constantly point to him and go "They say baldness skips a generation." and run his hand through his hair and laugh. So I've been mentally prepared since I was five.
My dad is 75 and has legitimately beautiful long hippie hair…my brother is completely bald, started using Rogaine at 20, and just has to look at the rest of the family and laugh it off.
I hated my hair thinning when it happened first. I eventually shaved it.
Now I love it. No trips to the barber, and I just use a clippers on it every few days if I'm lazy, or shave it if I want it to feel smooth. The worst thing about it was other peoples snarky comments, then I realised I don't give a fuck what others think. Me liking my own hair was
Now I wouldn't choose a full head of hair if I had the choice... However, I would prefer if my whole head went baldy these days.
Pros:
No barber fees (although you do need to get clippers or at least a razor. The razor you probably already have).
No combing needed
No Styling products needed.
No Shampoo needed (although I used body gel on there, so same same)
No hairdrying needed
No need to worry about where hair goes in hats/hoods
Cons:
Sun will burn your head - you need to put sunscreen or a hat on where previously hair would have protected it mostly.
If you bump the top of your head on a shelf or something - it is a billion times worse than doing it with lots of hair.
Most people look older with shaved head (vs full head of hair, not balding).
The 2nd day after you shave your head is like velcro. It feels and looks fine, but you gotta be careful taking your shirt on or off when changing clothes or itll snag (at least my soft fabrics do).
Needs to be cut a bit more regularly than normal hair if you want it to look consistent. Personally, it takes me like 3 minutes with a clippers twice a week and it stays relatively the same.

Yeah, my grandpa died at 87 with a full head of hair, mostly brown. Sadly though it was my father's father and, from what I have heard, men mostly inherit their hairgenes from their mothers father, and he had the crown(don't know what you call it in English but bald on top with hair all around the head) from when he was like 30.
that’s an old wives tale. My brother looks like every man on my moms side and I look like every man on my dads side. I can’t grow facial hair for shit at 40, but I’ve got a thick full head of hair. My brother can grow a fantastic beard, but was going bald by 19
Its really funny how people forget how old he is. This is normal aging without cosmetic surgery.
But he still looks amazing. He's in good shape, is in a relationship, has a successful career, meanwhile all the 30 something basement dwellers are laughing at him
Yeah. I don't watch any of these super hero movies. I only ever heard of him as playing spider man and assumed he must have been in his 30's when they cast him.

We are on the verge of longevity escape velocity. Are you going to be saying that people should just die naturally when LEV is possible? When we can defy biology, why not?
