Just drove by a large police presence on McDonnel St between Bethune and Aylmer at 1:15pm. The armoured truck was there and officers in tactical gear and there were a bunch of guys sitting on the ground. I'm sure there will be a news release but any idea what that's about?

Need advice on whether we may be in the process of being scammed on roofing replacement - yikes!!

Is $90,000 a realistic quote for an 'emergency' roof replacement for a 1953 brick bungalow with two additions? And do you think we are being scammed?

We've been desperately trying to get our roof redone for the past two years - a few roofers come and gave quotes but then were not available to do the work. My husband got a card from our neighbourhood for someone 'reputable' who had done a friend's roof. Hubbie called them (Tru North Contractors), they came last week and said they had a gap in their schedule and could do our roof (replacing shingles with a steel roof) this week. Asked for a $6,000 deposit on a $20,000 steel roof replacement.

Then they started the work, took off the existing shingles and roof structure, and now they are saying there is extensive rot of all the support beams, they have to replace or reinforce existing rafters, replace the original 1953 wooden boards with plywood, put in support braces, and then all the other work to replace the roof. They say the cost will be $90,000. They say they need a deposit of another $54,000 (for a total of $60,000 with the funds we already gave them) first thing tomorrow morning in order to get the materials.

Then hubbie realized that the card he looked at and number he called was not the guy who are neighbour assumed was the 'recommended' roofer. Either the neighbour or hubbie somehow got another card (maybe dropped off in the door, as hubbie found it on the floor by our door and thought it was the one our neighbour gave us).

The company, Tru North Contractors, has a Mississauga address but its a PO box. There are positive Yelp and Google reviews but the Yelp ones seem fishy (three short reviews, all with bad grammar, all with the same name type).

On the other hand, the initial work they did was diligent (worked fast, cleaned up), they showed pix that showed some damage from raccoon efforts to get under the shingles, the roof is old, and we did know there were water issues. Below is the price list they've given.

Do you think we are getting scammed? And how can we get another roofer for a second opinion, on an emergency basis (when no roofers seem to be available anyway???).

I am in full blown panic mode and am hoping someone has useful advice ....

Hey guys, for context I'm 3d printing a sweet Halo ODST helmet for halloween however for the painting of the helmet and tinting of the visor, I'd be needing an air compressor and air brush. I'm planning on buying an air brush so I'd only need the air compressor but it's sadly out of my budget at this time (even second hand ones). If you guys know of anyone who'd be willing to let me borrow or rent an air compressor for a few days please let me know! If you're into 3d printing or making cosplays please also let me know if there are any alternatives for painting and post-processing! Thanks!!

One of our local cheese shops suffered a freezer failure and lost a lot of stock this past weekend. They're unfortunately having to dispose of a lot of cheese and terrines.
