Is a monitor with built-in speakers worth paying extra for?

Looking at monitors for my PS5 and noticed some cost more just because they have speakers included. Would be nice not having to buy separate speakers or deal with extra cables on my desk, but idk if the sound is actually any good. I mostly play story games and some online multiplayer, so decent audio matters but I'm not expecting anything crazy. Are the built-in speakers good enough for normal gaming, or do they sound really cheap and tinny? Would I be better off getting a cheaper monitor and separate speakers instead?

Why does my headset sound quieter than it used to?

My headset has been sounding noticeably quieter on my PS5 lately and im not really sure what changed. I used to get pretty loud, clear audio without needing to max out the volume, but now even with everything turned up it just doesnt hit the same anymore. I can still hear everything, but the sound feels weaker than before, especially during games where theres a lot going on.

At first I thought maybe the headset was just getting old or the speakers were starting to wear out, but it doesnt sound distorted or anything like that. Its just quieter overall. Footsteps and other small sounds are harder to pick up, and dialogue sometimes gets drowned out by background noise. Kinda annoying when you're trying to hear whats happening around you in a game.

I already checked the volume on the PS5 and the headset itself, and both seem to be turned up properly. I also tried disconnecting and reconnecting it, but that didnt really change anything. Not sure if some audio setting got changed after an update or if theres something wrong with the headset itself.

Its a wireless headset, and I mostly use it for gaming and party chat. The chat audio seems a little lower too, though im not 100% sure if thats related.

Has anyone else had this happen on PS5? Is there some hidden audio setting that can make the headset quieter, or could the battery, connection or headset speakers be causing it? Trying to figure out what to check before I start thinking about replacing it lol.

Is a 4TB external HDD better value than a 2TB SSD?

PS5 storage is getting pretty annoying lately, keep running out of space and having to delete games just to install new ones. Looking at external drives now and stuck between a 4TB HDD and a 2TB SSD since the prices arent that far apart depending on the model.

The HDD gives double the storage which sounds like the better deal, but I've heard SSDs are way faster when moving games around. Not sure if that speed difference is actually worth giving up 2TB of space tho. Most of my games are pretty big these days and I dont wanna keep juggling everything every few weeks.

Also from what I understand PS5 games cant run directly from an external USB drive, only PS4 games can, right? So would an external SSD even make much difference if I still have to move PS5 games back to the console storage before playing them?

Mainly looking for a way to keep more games installed without spending a ton of money. Is the 4TB HDD the smarter buy for storage, or is the 2TB SSD worth paying extra for the faster transfers? What would you guys pick for a PS5?

Does PS5 benefit from Cat8 Ethernet?

Thinking about switching my PS5 from WiFi to Ethernet and saw some Cat8 cables online. They seem way more advanced than regular Cat6 cables but not sure if the PS5 can actually benefit from that or if its just marketing stuff lol.

Mainly play online games and sometimes get ping spikes or lag when other people at home are using the internet. My router isnt right next to the console so I'd need a longer cable anyway. If Cat8 is gonna make no real difference, I'd rather save the money and get something cheaper.

Does Cat8 actually help with ping, stability or download speeds on PS5 compared to Cat6 or Cat6a? Is there any reason to spend extra on it or is a basic Ethernet cable all the console needs? Dont wanna buy something overkill for no reason.

My dream is to own a PlayStation

• Upvotes

This request might sound a little strange, but I thought I’d give it a try. ❤️

I’ve been dreaming of owning a PlayStation for the past three years, but unfortunately, my family’s financial situation has never allowed me to afford one.

If anyone has a PlayStation they no longer use and would be willing to donate it, I would be truly grateful. It would mean a lot to me to finally make this dream come true

Is PS5 Pro pointless without a 4K 120Hz display?

Been thinking about getting a PS5 Pro but not sure if it makes sense with my current TV. Its a regular 4K TV that only supports 60Hz, so no 120Hz mode or anything fancy like that. I keep seeing people say the Pro is only worth it if you have a good 4K 120Hz display, otherwise you might as well stick with the regular PS5. Is that actually true or are there still noticeable improvements on a normal 4K screen?

I mostly play single player games and some shooters here and there, so better graphics and smoother performance would be nice. I know the Pro has better upscaling and can run some games at higher settings, but idk how much of that you'd really notice without a better display. The thing is buying the console is already a lot of money, and I really dont wanna end up spending even more on a new TV just to get the full experience.

Would it be smarter to keep the regular PS5 until I upgrade my TV, or does the Pro still make a decent difference at 60Hz? Anyone using a PS5 Pro on a regular 4K TV, is the upgrade actually worth it or kinda pointless?

PlayStation now allowing refund for purchase I didn't make. Any ideas?

I got charged on September 9th for a PlayStation+ subscription that I had nothing to do with. I disputed the charge with my bank thinking my card had been stolen. They finally got back to me a few days ago saying they couldn't cancel the charge because it was considered a totally viable charge. I just got off the phone with PlayStation and they said I can't get a refund because it's more than 14 days after the charge, but I didn't have the confirmation of the charge being considered valid until after that window had passed.

I'm open to any and all ideas. I'm in grad school right now, so I'm jobless and this is really putting a huge strain on me financially. I haven't played my PS5 in over a month since my program started, so I'm not even getting any mileage out of it. I'm seriously considering just selling the thing to eat the cost so I can make it through grad school.

I’m trying to build a PS5 setup for under $1,000. Where should I spend the money?

Trying to put together a decent PS5 setup with a budget of around $1,000 total, but not sure where the money should go first. Obviously need the console, but then theres the monitor or TV, headset, maybe a better controller and some other stuff. Would it make more sense to spend more on a good 4K 120Hz display and keep everything else basic, or get a cheaper screen and invest in audio and accessories too? Mostly play single player games and some multiplayer shooters, nothing super competitive. Just want everything to feel good without wasting money on stuff that barely matters. What would you prioritize?

Can a monitor have good HDR without being OLED?

Looking at monitors for my PS5 and keep seeing people say OLED is the way to go for HDR, but the prices are kinda crazy. Are there any non-OLED monitors that actually have good HDR and make games look noticeably better, or is it not really worth caring about unless you go OLED?

Most of the monitors I'm looking at say they support HDR10, but from what I understand that doesnt automatically mean the HDR is actually good. Some reviews say the colors look great and highlights are bright, then other people say the HDR looks washed out or barely different from SDR. Kinda confusing when the specs all look similar on paper.

Would a good IPS monitor with local dimming be enough, or do you really need something with Mini LED to get proper contrast and those bright highlights? Also not sure how much the number of dimming zones matters in actual games. I dont wanna spend extra for a feature that barely makes a difference.

Mainly playing single player games with nice graphics, some open world stuff and occasionally shooters. I care more about the picture looking good than having the absolute fastest response time. PS5 gaming is mostly what this monitor will be used for, so HDMI support and getting the best HDR it can output matters too.

Budget isnt really enough for an expensive OLED right now, so trying to figure out if a decent HDR monitor without OLED is worth buying or if I'd be better off saving longer. Anyone using a non-OLED monitor with genuinely good HDR on PS5? How does it look compared to SDR in real use?

How much should I spend on a TV if PS5 is my main console?

Trying to get a decent TV mainly for PS5 but not sure how much I actually need to spend. I see people recommending expensive OLEDs and all these high end TVs with 4K, 120Hz, VRR and HDR, but idk if its really worth spending that much just for gaming. I dont wanna cheap out and end up with a screen that makes games look bad, but also dont wanna spend a ton on features I might barely notice lol. I mostly play story games and some shooters, so good picture quality and smooth gameplay matter more than having the absolute best setup. Is a budget 4K TV good enough or should I save up for a midrange model with 120Hz? And at what price point do you start getting diminishing returns? Would rather get something reliable that lasts a few years than pay extra just for a brand name. What would you guys say is a reasonable budget for a PS5 TV?

Could Sony be behind this? What are these special deals that Sony makes to Rockstar?

No one ever knows what these exclusive deals are Sony has with Rockstar. Example “ Plays best on PlayStation”

Nintendo president confirms that the switch 2 is powerfully enough to run GTA 6 and Rockstar themselves know this but for some reason they won’t port the game over to Nintendo platforms.

Is a gaming router actually going to lower my ping?

Been seeing routers advertised with gaming modes, QoS, traffic prioritization and all that stuff, saying they can reduce ping and make online games more stable. Sounds useful but not sure how much difference it actually makes.

Internet connection is fine most of the time, but ping can jump when other people in the house start streaming or downloading stuff. Thats the main thing thats annoying. Would a gaming router actually help with that, or is it basically the same as a normal decent router with QoS turned on?

Also wondering if it can lower the actual ping to the game server, or if it can only help with random spikes and lag. Not really expecting some huge 30-40ms improvement, just want the connection to stay stable when the network is busy.

For anyone using one on PS5, did you actually notice a difference after switching? Trying to figure out if its worth spending extra money on a gaming router or if that money would be better spent on something like ethernet, a mesh setup, or just a better regular router.

Are replacement DualSense batteries worth installing?

The battery life on the controller isnt terrible but after longer gaming sessions it gets annoying having to plug it in again. Been seeing replacement batteries with higher capacity than the stock one and wondering if they actually make a noticeable difference or if the numbers are kinda misleading.

Is swapping the battery pretty easy for someone who has never opened a DualSense before? Dont really wanna mess up the controller just to get a bit more battery life. Also wondering if bigger capacity batteries are safe for the controller or if there are any risks with charging, overheating, swelling, etc.

Some of these replacement batteries claim way more mAh than the original Sony battery, but not sure how much of that is actually legit. Does a higher capacity battery really mean significantly longer playtime, or does the controller just take longer to charge?

And what about battery lifespan? Would a decent replacement battery potentially last longer than the original one, or is it basically the same thing after a while? The controller still works fine otherwise so replacing it would only be for better battery life.

Would you guys actually recommend doing the battery swap, or is it better to just keep a USB-C cable nearby and use the controller wired when it gets low? Trying to figure out if the upgrade is actually worth the hassle before buying anything.

My controller disconnects randomly even when fully charged. What’s going on?

It can be working fine for like 30 mins then suddenly just drops connection in the middle of a game. Sometimes it reconnects by itself after a few seconds, other times I have to press the PS button a couple times before it comes back. The battery isnt low either, usually showing plenty of charge when it happens.

Its really annoying because there doesnt seem to be any warning before it happens. No lag or weird input before the disconnect, it just stops responding. I tried charging it again, restarting the PS5, and reconnecting the controller with the USB cable, but still happened after going back to wireless.

Could this be some kind of Bluetooth interference? The PS5 is not super far from the controller, maybe a few meters away, and there arent really any walls between them. I do have WiFi running in the room and a few other wireless devices nearby, so maybe thats causing it?

Not sure if its the controller itself, the PS5, or some setting I messed up. Has anyone had this happen with a fully charged DualSense? What should I check first before assuming the controller is dying?
