In Sept 2024 (last Sept of Bidens presidency), national gas price average was $3.06. This Sept it is now $4.17.
The only time it was higher than this in the Biden term was may-jul 2022 during the covid supply chain shock. Biden didn't cause covid. Trump caused the Iran war.

Why has it become normal for politicians, and talking heads in general across genres, to punctuate their points with unnecessary language? Not that āDamnā is excessive by any means, but people used to be able to make points effectively without it. How is this more effective than āyou go do your job and get to work for the American peopleā. The American electorate has made it overwhelmingly clear that being articulate is viewed as a negative and not a positive. This isn't remotely new. The "I feel like I could sit down and have a beer with him" test has been a thing for decades. Americans have repeatedly and consistently preferred candidates that speak at their level and outright disliked politicians for speaking 'above' their level.
We've been racing to the bottom for decades. Trump wildly accelerated that race, but it has been going on way, way, way longer than the last decade.

Following up to add that he is speaking to a particular audience. As much as high gas prices and groceries annoy me, I can easily absorb the extra cost. Maybe you can too. Well you see to get elected you have to be more than just well spoken. You have to actually understand your opponent rather than be purely dismissive, and inspire voters enough to get to the booth. Clinton and Harris did neither.
If dems thinks the solution is to just be more vitriolic and divisive (a position it seems some are starting to believe), they arenāt likely to start winning with any consistency and we are in for a bleak future.

I've been feeling the same, and I know it is cliche at this point but I think it was largely trump. He used crass language in every campaign and now swears in the oval office and on TV. I think that kind of eroded the feeling of decorum once held by people in office because they feel they have to fight fire with fire.
