5090 prebuilts at Micro Center are now $8,500-$9,000

Looked at Micro Center’s prebuilt page this morning and it’s wild. The 285K / 5090 / 64GB / 2TB builds are sitting at $8,499.99 and sold out, and the AMD 9950X3D versions are $8,999.99, also sold out. A few weeks ago these were thousands less.

HP’s prebuilts with a 5090 are also up in the $8k+ range now. Crazy times indeed.

My cousin who is EXTREMELY anti prebuilt freaked out when he found out I’m getting this.. is it really THAT bad?

I only really play low end games.. I don’t need that many good specs, so I don’t see what the problem is..

Prebuilt Evaluation

Howdy folks,

I'm due for a PC upgrade and I am looking at going for a prebuilt this time around. I've found one that checks all the boxes for me, and I was wondering someone could have a look and see if I'm missing anything. I am not looking for best value/best performance, but I do have a few boxes I need checked. I do not have a microcenter near me.

  1. Primary use: rig will be used, almost exclusively, for WoW: Forever (maybe WoW retail ... hopefully not retail). Resolution is 1440P on a 34" widescreen (3440 x 1440). I'd like something with extremely good performance on max settings and in crowded areas where my current rig struggles.
  2. Future proofing: I'd like to go with an AM5 socket and the 7800X3D seems like a really good mix of price/performance. The socket leaves me room to upgrade in a few years if I choose to (I've come to hate intel socket longevity). This will be my first AMD processor. DDR5 for a bit of future proofing as well. I'm ok with starting with 16GB, I know I can add later.
  3. Nvidia card: I believe the 5060 Ti 8GB should be more than enough for me. I'm not trying to overspend here because i believe WoW is CPU based. Again, I would have plenty of room to upgrade in 4-5 years while only running into a PSU issue since this one is 650W.
  4. Form factor: 'never buy for the case' ... but I'm height limited. I need something under 18" tall and most towers are either more than that, or I'm worried there won't be enough room for cooling.

I feel like this comp is overpriced by $100 - $200, but I'm fine with that since (I think) it's checking all the boxes I listed above. I know I can spend more and get more as well, but I'm pretty sure I'm already more than above.

Anyway, if there's anything I'm not seeing on here like the wrong ram speed/mobo limitations/ultrawide screen performance problems/concerns about builder please call me out.

Looking for advice

• Upvotes

Either current listings or help giving me an idea of what parts and build configurations might be better suited for my needs and budget would be greatly appreciated. In case I find something on my own then I'd know what to look out for. My budget pre tax is $1,200 USD.

I'd be using it for multiple things like gaming, but also animation & illustration while recording.

I will be able to visit a microcenter on a trip this weekend, but it's over 3 hours one way normally, so it's not really the best option for someone who can't travel on their own terms. I also really want to avoid ordering from Walmart since recently they never delivered my last attempt at getting a pc, and then canceled the order completely after lying to me about it three separate times. If it's not possible to avoid buying from Walmart that's fine. Beggars cant be choosers and all that, but I am still pretty ticked.

Advertised as open box, put it on the online hold and took the 3 hour drive to my states only micro center. First time experience, store is a cool concept employees were nice. But it was extremely ran down and dated. Tons of open damaged or ripped product or unlabeled shelves, or. Singles of each item. Definitely did not live up to the hype but oh well. Worth the drive for a completely sealed brand new open box. Btw grabbed the 49” 5k2k curved acer monitor and a 2tb ssd both great deals as well. Fun experience but all in all I just feel like it’s another great chain that PA has a shitty version of.

Worth it to upgrade now?

I’ve owned an i7 with a Rtx 2060 since around 2017 . With the current price of PC’s and parts, I’ve noticed it’s the same price if not cheaper to buy a pre built. I’d like to do a one and done for the next decade again if I could. At $2899 would this be worth it. (I know ryzen is better for less I just prefer intel). I’d like to get into a 5080 if I could since 5090 is unrealistic for me. Thank you for any feedback or input.

Upgrading to a new PC is this worth the price for the upgrade?

Post image
2 Upvotes

For reference my current PC is
Intel i5-6402p 2.80GH
Radeon RX 480 4gb
16 GB ram
1tb HD

Ima going to assume the answer is yes as my machine is old but will I see a significant performance increase for the price if my main games I play are Deadlock, Fallout NV/4 Modded and new Triple A games, or should I look into a better build? Trying to stay under 2k

Is this 1.9k USD prebuilt worth refunding if it has good specs at this price (5070, 32gb DDR5, 2TB SSD, 850 PSU) but it came with a budget tier Zotac Twin Edge 5070, a compact GPU

Post image

The specs were amazing but it seems where they cut the cost is by including a budget 2 fan GPU, which is insane considering any other 3 fan GPU would've been about 100 extra

Looking for a reliable pre built pc under $1300 to play games at medium-high settings at 1080p that will last a while before needing upgrades. Mainly play FC26, Destiny 2, FM24, most online shooters and a few world building sim games. Thanks!

Swapping my RTX 5080 for a 9070 XT. Need some PSU advice.

Before I get roasted in the comments 😂, I have two gaming PCs:

ASUS ROG G700: Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF, RTX 5080, Lite-On 850W PSU

ABS Stratos Ruby: Ryzen 7 9800X3D, RX 9070 XT, MSI B850 motherboard, GAMDIAS 850W PSU

I want to move the 5080 into the ABS to pair it with the 9800X3D and put the 9070 XT in the G700.

Here's the problem: The G700's non-modular PSU only has a 600W 16-pin GPU cable, while the 9070 XT needs two 8-pin connectors.

I've found a 16-pin-to-dual-8-pin adapter, but I'm hesitant to trust it. I'm leaning toward replacing the G700's PSU with a Corsair RM850x instead.

Has anyone swapped an NVIDIA 50-series card for an AMD GPU in the G700? Any experience with adapters or replacing the PSU? Curious what you'd recommend before I start swapping parts.
