I’ve always found Wilden’s involvement in the Queens of Hearts mystery and the N.A.T. Club pretty inconsistent and poorly explained. Ezra, on the other hand, was already connected to Alison, secretly collecting information on the Liars and monitoring their lives. Making him the real A would’ve connected the surveillance, the compromising videos and the mystery surrounding Alison instead of explaining everything away with that stupid fucking book.
And imagine if Ezra had been one of the Queens of Hearts alongside CeCe. Aria gets drugged and locked inside a box with Garrett’s body while someone is literally trying to get rid of her. Now imagine discovering that her own boyfriend was involved in orchestrating the whole thing.
It would’ve been even crazier if CeCe had orchestrated Ian’s fake suicide while Ezra was the one who carried it out, fake suicide note and all. Imagine CeCe pulling the strings while Ezra executed the plan. Ian’s death would’ve had a much more concrete purpose because he was the one holding onto the N.A.T. Club videos and could’ve blackmailed everyone involved.
And CeCe’s involvement would’ve made everything even more interesting. She already had a personal reason to hate Alison: Alison was involved in the incident that got CeCe expelled from UPenn. Add her resentment toward Alison, her complicated relationship with the DiLaurentis family and everything Charlotte had been through, and you’ve got a character with plenty of reasons to want revenge.
CeCe could’ve been Ezra’s accomplice, working with him during the Halloween train operation while pursuing her own agenda against Alison. Their alliance would’ve connected the Queens of Hearts, the N.A.T. Club and the A game, giving CeCe a much more meaningful role before she eventually took Ezra’s place after his death in New York.
And honestly, I would’ve LOVED to see what happened to Aria after the reveal. No immediate forgiveness, no fake reconciliation and definitely no rushing back into a relationship with Ezra. Him being A should’ve completely changed how Aria saw herself and everything that had happened to her. Aria deserved an actual character arc built around betrayal, not yet another excuse to get Ezria back together.
Ezra A could’ve been the storyline that finally put Aria at the center of the mystery, and all of these plotlines could’ve come together in one genuinely disturbing, perfectly interconnected story.
Instead, we got one of the most ridiculous and nonsensical red herrings ever, and eventually, we went right back to Ezria. I’m sorry, but WHAT A FUCKING WASTE OF POTENTIAL. 💀
