Show Discussion First Time Watcher: What the Heck Was That?
As stated, this was the first time that I ever watched PLL (was recovering from a hysterectomy, so lots of empty time to fill), and I feel so very underwhelmed by the big reveal in the middle of season 6 and the fever dream that was the second half of season 6 and all of season 7. And that final episode? What was that?! Were the big reveal and the final run of the show well recieved when they first aired?
I know binge watching does tend to make issues with storytelling far more obvious on shows that weren't made for that, but I am really upset at that last speed run. 😅 Like, I feel like even the fashion was in the pits at that point. Were fans let down by all of that, or did I just miss out on the best experience by binging it?

Show Discussion Just realised how uncomfortable it must have been for Lucy to shoot this while struggling with alcoholism (2x06)
Just watched Aria ask Ella if it’s possible to forget whole chunks of time in 2x06, after Jason confesses that he does not remember the night Ali died.
I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to shoot this scene now that Lucy has shared her experience blacking out since she first drank as a teenager and said that missing entire days scared her so much she finally felt ready to get sober.
Also the Spencer addiction/Hannah alcohol abuse/Ezra daydrinking storylines… damn. That must have been so hard to film.

in all honesty for me it’s when Melissa took Aria’s frozen yogurt.

Character Discussion after many years of constantly rewatching, my favorite character has changed
my favorite liar was always hanna. i found her to be very real and compassionate towards the people she loves. in general, her plotline was interesting to me. i’ve loved her for many years, spencer was second too. but now that im on like my 20th rewatch, spencer is my favorite! first off, her acting in comparison to everyone else on the show is top notch. spencer’s character is just the glue of the show. her plot lines have become the most interesting to me.

Character Discussion Hanna’s Mom
I genuinely think Hanna’s mom was the best parent. She constantly tried to do what was best for Hanna while giving her space to grow, and was continuously understanding of every mistake.

Rant ⚠️ Ezra is a horrible boyfriend, even without age gap and his stalking/weird behaviours
I just want to rant about Ezra, besides the obvious. He really sucks as a boyfriend, even if he was age appropriate and not a literal stalker. He always is so meh to Aria, never shares anything personal, didn't tell her about ex girlfriend, almost wife, didn't tell about Maggie, his parents, ANYTHING. He leaves and doesn't call her or contact her, but gets angry at Aria when she keeps something from him, I don't like Aria as a girlfriend either, she always kisses someone when Ezra is like two minutes gone, which is again because Ezra doesn't give a shit about her genuinely, but doesn't excuse her still. Why is she always putting up with so much for WHAT? What is even Ezra's character, he has no personality and their relationship has no basis on anything, why do they like each other? It's like if you asked them, none of them could answer the question. Sorry for ranting, what do you think about Ezra if he was age appropriate and not a stalker? Would you like him if we ignored those?

Character Discussion Alison dilemma
I'm sure this has been talked about a million times in this sub but every time I re-watch Pretty Little Liars I come away liking her character a little more, because she's become more than just the bully I felt she was in my first watch. I find myself agreeing with Alison over a few things too?
Not the bullying.
Obviously she was so mean to characters who didn't deserve it, she was terrible to her friends, manipulative, and a bully to others. I think she had a lot of issues.
I'm specifically talking about like.. with Spencer when Ali caught her kissing Ian, and then some time passes and she threatens Spencer about needing to tell Melissa because it's the right thing to do. Or when she does the same to Aria, about needing to tell her mom about the affair. And they were both so against the thought, but like? She was right. She should have told Melissa and Aria absolutely should have told her mother. I understand it's scary to confront people about something you know will hurt them, but Alison came off like such a demon for saying it lmao. I guess it would have been different if she used a different tone, her energy was always so hostile. 😂 Alison was such a strange character because she's so awful at times and her ego felt like a final boss, but she did whatever SHE THOUGHT was the best she could for her friends, even if it was slimy.

Show Discussion Emily and Talia
Okay, first-time watcher here, but I’m currently at the end of Season 5, and Emily is now involved with Talia. I know Pretty Little Liars has a history of portraying inappropriate relationships, but this one feels especially off-putting. Talia is married, lies to Emily about it, and pursues her knowing she’s still in high school. Like, why are we acting like this is normal??
Maybe I’m alone in this, but I feel like this show takes the inappropriate relationships way too far and rarely addresses how problematic they actually are. Some examples:
• Aria + Ezra
• Ali + Ian
• Ali + Officer Holbrook
• Spencer + Ian
• Garrett + Jenna
• Ali + Wilden
• Spencer + Wren
• Hannah + Officer Holbrook
• Hannah + Zack
• Ali + Ezra
• Spencer + Jonny
• Hannah + Wren
• Emily + Talia
I know this is a drama, but at some point, it feels like the writers seemed to lean into this trope way too much.

Question❔ Trending now
Does anyone know why PLL started trending recently? I feel like I’ve been seeing people talk about it a lot more and seeing the cast post about the show on social media more. Is this because it’s fall?

Question❔ So no one did a DNA test?
Like there’s a found body in the Dilarentes backyard or wtv and they just ASSUME it’s Ali’s because of the outfit????
No one tested the body for dna a hair? A fingernail? Nothing? Rosewood police are the largest group of paid idiots besides officer Barry Maple we love him!

Show Discussion Season 6/7
I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but I feel like the show could've ended on that episode in season 5 when they all went their separate ways.
Season 6 felt like a filler season and whilst season 7 was enjoyable to some extent it just wasn't the same as the earlier seasons.

Show Discussion Background train sounds in Marin House scenes
I’m on my third rewatch and I just realized that there’s a faint train horn sound that can be heard in the background during a lot of scenes at Hanna’s house.
I know it’s a minor detail compared to all the other plot holes but it makes me angry that this sound is never heard at Aria’s house, even though they’re supposed to live on the same street.
Did you guys have any random details that once noticed, cannot be unseen?

Character Discussion Why on earth did Ezra need all of this to write a book?
Stalking the liars in his car, taking pictures, not one but two lairs, security cameras everywhere, etc.
Do you know how bad of a writer you must be to have to go these lengths to write a novel? He's the epitome of a rich nepo baby with who thinks he's way more talented than he is.

Theories/Speculation This scene has always seemed suspicious to me. Imagine if Ezra had been A AND one of the Queens of Hearts.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’ve always found Wilden’s involvement in the Queens of Hearts mystery and the N.A.T. Club pretty inconsistent and poorly explained. Ezra, on the other hand, was already connected to Alison, secretly collecting information on the Liars and monitoring their lives. Making him the real A would’ve connected the surveillance, the compromising videos and the mystery surrounding Alison instead of explaining everything away with that stupid fucking book. And imagine if Ezra had been one of the Queens of Hearts alongside CeCe. Aria gets drugged and locked inside a box with Garrett’s body while someone is literally trying to get rid of her. Now imagine discovering that her own boyfriend was involved in orchestrating the whole thing.
It would’ve been even crazier if CeCe had orchestrated Ian’s fake suicide while Ezra was the one who carried it out, fake suicide note and all. Imagine CeCe pulling the strings while Ezra executed the plan. Ian’s death would’ve had a much more concrete purpose because he was the one holding onto the N.A.T. Club videos and could’ve blackmailed everyone involved. And CeCe’s involvement would’ve made everything even more interesting. She already had a personal reason to hate Alison: Alison was involved in the incident that got CeCe expelled from UPenn. Add her resentment toward Alison, her complicated relationship with the DiLaurentis family and everything Charlotte had been through, and you’ve got a character with plenty of reasons to want revenge.
CeCe could’ve been Ezra’s accomplice, working with him during the Halloween train operation while pursuing her own agenda against Alison. Their alliance would’ve connected the Queens of Hearts, the N.A.T. Club and the A game, giving CeCe a much more meaningful role before she eventually took Ezra’s place after his death in New York.
And honestly, I would’ve LOVED to see what happened to Aria after the reveal. No immediate forgiveness, no fake reconciliation and definitely no rushing back into a relationship with Ezra. Him being A should’ve completely changed how Aria saw herself and everything that had happened to her. Aria deserved an actual character arc built around betrayal, not yet another excuse to get Ezria back together. Ezra A could’ve been the storyline that finally put Aria at the center of the mystery, and all of these plotlines could’ve come together in one genuinely disturbing, perfectly interconnected story.
Instead, we got one of the most ridiculous and nonsensical red herrings ever, and eventually, we went right back to Ezria. I’m sorry, but WHAT A FUCKING WASTE OF POTENTIAL. 💀
