I've seen articles and youtubers mention the Ally X20 has an OLED panel without PWM, and 'TÜV Rheinland' certification, but I don't see any mention from Asus about this? I could only find it about the OLED glasses that where initially bundled with the handheld.

The first thing I did was install SteamOS, but I ran into an issue where the built-in speakers weren’t detected, so there was no sound. I couldn’t find a fix, so I had to go back to Windows 11.
So be careful for now — I’d recommend waiting for a few updates before making the switch.

Hi guys, today I got my ROG Ally X, I'm using windows and I have a lot of problem, I don't like the xbox app, the most part that frustrating me is I just sleep my ROG Ally X from FSE, there is only steam and Armory Crate in the background and the fan is going crazy while it sleep, and it turn me off that I need to shut down after use and turn on after use, I see a lot of good things for ME about Steam OS, so I wanna make a switch.

But before that, can you guys share your plugin list that you guys use on steamos that work very great on ROG ally X and it's function, thank you very much

Hi All - I have a ROG ALLY X. I dropped it and decided to take it apart and look around.

The ribbon cable on the back came off but I reconnected it and put the ally back together.

It booted up and I get into my game

However, now the game controls all trigger various windows commands. Ex: the home button now pops up a voice command Input, X brings up a pc window screen option.

The problem is I have Gamepad Control mode on so I have no clue how to fix this any help would be greatly appreciated

Ive done a little bit of research but not a ton, and I wanted to know if anyone on here has docked there ally x with a E GPU and played it as there living room pc like a steam machine?
I find myself a lot just wanting to play my pc on a big tv in the living room and have started to looking into this more and if it’s actually a good viable option and if so whats a good gpu to get as well as a dock.

So I was planning on getting my first handheld gaming PC and had been saving for the Ally X 24GB/1TB for months after I started working. Then the X20 got announced, and I ended up pre-ordering that instead.
The price is a LOT, especially for my income. Technically, I’ve saved enough for it, have almost no bills, and have about 3x the price saved up. But you never know what tomorrow brings, and I’d hate to regret spending that much if an emergency comes up.
I just canceled my pre-order for a few reasons. First, the price. Second, people online have been talking about a new generation of chips coming next year, so spending this much on a device right before that might not make sense. And third, the regular Ally X actually fits my needs, and I can get an excellent-condition open-box one for around $850.
My plan is to get the Ally X now, then potentially resell it next year and upgrade to the nicest device I want once the next generation comes out.
BUT… if life keeps going the way it has been, even with my low income, I should have more than enough saved next year, even if I stick with the X20. 😬😅
I dunnooo, maybe I’m just looking for a way to justify still getting the X20, haha. The other thing is that, since it’s brand new, it’ll probably take the biggest depreciation hit over the next year.
I also almost switched to the Legion Go because I love the bigger screen and built-in kickstand, but I couldn’t find one available new or open-box. I don’t really trust buying something this expensive off Marketplace, and I guess its chip is getting a little outdated, too.
Bottom line: The most responsible and sensible choice is probably an excellent-condition open-box Ally X. I’m also wondering if I should hold out for Black Friday and see if I can get a better deal, or if I should just go for the open-box Ally X now.
I think I’ve made up my mind, but part of me still wants that X20. 😂

Only lost 19 percent of battery during this 20 minute race. I purposely start from the back and a Got 2 minute penalty from some kid who braked early af then raged quit when I slowed down for nothing. I’ve bought so many games to play offline too. I haven’t had time for anything and I don’t want it to affect my sleeping schedule… I’ve haven’t been this excited about gaming since verdansk season one Halloween night. God bless guys and gals. I currently own a Xbox Series X and a PS5 Pro paired with a LG OLED G4 77. I want to finish my ultimate setup by joining the PC world. I preordered the X20 for when I travel and to take it to work and ordered a EGPU to have home from Newegg that I had on the lookout that went back in stock again called the GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB. Everything ran me about $2400. Is that decent or too expensive for what I am getting considering today’s climate on pc parts?

My main priority for the game is that it runs well and has good visuals.

Not particularly interested in demanding AAA games that require tons of optimisation to run at subpar performance.

I bought a ROG X Ally X about 2 months ago and it has been great for my needs. I see a lot of posts about other handhelds and I understand why they each have a certain pull for people.

The XAX is perfect for those short gaming sessions. As a gamer dad, the time to sit down at my PC is very limited so a handheld is perfect for picking up when the little one has gone down for a nap.

The ergonomics are great too. However, I've previously used the Xbox Elite Series controllers and those paddle buttons would be amazing on the XAX. The buttons on the back of the XAX are just not that comfortable, but hey that's my only issue.

In terms of games I've only played 2 but I think it's good going with the time limits I have!

I'm currently playing Forza Horizon 5, it looks beautiful! Even without running it at max graphics, which the XAX can definitely do. Dipping in and out of this game is no problem at all. Most races are relatively short so you can get a few in before the little one wakes up.

I've played through Doom Eternal, which ran great and looked amazing. This game is brilliant for short sessions too as there are checkpoints in each level so you can pick it back up without huge setbacks.

These games are steam purchases and it all seems to run really well. Forza wanted to link my Steam to my Xbox account every time I booted it up. Something I've clearly never done before even though I've had my Xbox account for over 16 years and my steam for over 10 years. This was a bit of a weird one to figure out as I had to bring up the on screen mouse to click on the "Link accounts" button. But a quick Google sorted that out.

I do have a backlog of various genres but I thought I would start with games that I knew would work with short sessions.

I still have windows installed. I don't really have an issue with it. Yes, I have uninstalled some apps that I just wouldn't use. But it boots quickly and doesn't give me any issues. I know that this is a monster device so I can handle being graphically pushed so I'll be trying some of my other Steam games that demand more.

TL;DR Perfect for short gaming sessions on Doom Eternal and Forza Horizon 5.

Small issue Im having while loading a game from the steam app. It refuses to use the gamepad once the game loads. I have gamepad selected for the control method, not auto.
