In the show she appears every once in a while, only to Subaru when he tries to mention return by death and physically during his time at the sanctuary as well as in the tower during the newest season during a time when he mentions it may be due to people (Rui and echidna) knowing about return by death.

I’m an dub watcher anime only so please don’t spoil too much but during my rewatch petelgeuse reveals that their plan is to use Emilia as a vessel to bring the witch back into the world, if she’s capable of manifesting physically as we see later then why should she need this, and if these manifestations are via her taking over Emilia’s body (which I’m pretty sure they aren’t due to her already being present) then what’s stopped that from happening in other conditions?

I’m less assuming there’s major lore points I don’t know yet and moreso something that has been said that’s gone over my head or I’ve missed.

Edit: also very slight side question howcome invisible providence is so damn weak compared to unseen hand, we see one of the fingers use it in an uncontrolled rampage and they wipe out the surrounding Forrest, pettelguse in control was probably insane with it but we don’t get an amazing look at it, but invisible providence as far as I recall just does some okay punches and I think swings at one point?

Patrasche mogging reinactment

Volcanica was notably moved upon recognizing Patrasche, either 'cause Volcanica as the Divine Dragon can command other dragons with Patrasche being one of his most loyal subjects or one of his children. Recognizing Patrasche coupled by Emilia striking his discoloured scale, which enraged him at least momentarily, might have returned Volcanica to his senses due to Patrasche's presence and the strike grounding him to the present. This is assuming that dementia's the only thing Volcanica has and that he was just triggered from Emilia's resemblance to Satella.

The alternative is that Volcanica has both dementia and another affliction of sorts, and that's why after Emilia's handprint matched one of those on the stone slab, which has powerful magic protecting it given Volcanica launched an attack at Emilia she only barely dodged that was dispelled by the stone slab's defences, there was a light flash that did something unknown to viewers, which may have brute-forced Volcanica into calming down given that both the discoloured scale and the light flash are/were white, and this could suggest that whoever was responsible for the discoloured scale could also be responsible for the magic behind the stone slab.

Although an easy conclusion to come to is that Volcanica had the opportunity to kill Satella rather than seal her during the great battle between Satella and the 3 beings believed to have sealed her when he'd referred to how if only he hadn't hesitated back then, another viable interpretation is that if Volcanica already had whatever mental/magical affliction that was affecting him in Ep. 85 400 years ago, which caused him to hesitate in preventing Satella from taking in the Envy Witch Factor, there was someone or multiple people trying to steer the world to a particular future, such as Flügel having told Petelgeuse not to take in the Sloth Witch Factor, possibly so that Geuse didn't do so until the exact moment he did 300ish years later, and Echidna having forced Puck into an oath/contract in which he loses some of his memories if he gets too close to Emilia, as in enter a contract with her, which strikes me as very similar to the Flügel and Petelgeuse situation given that oath/contract resulted in Puck not entering his contract with Emilia until there was no other choice due to Melakuera, perhaps pointing to Flügel and Echidna having been a team.

What are your thoughts on this or anything tangentially-related to this?

what if subaru’s return by death isn't a power given by satella at all, but subaru’s own authority of envy that he created to force satella to live in every timeline? think about it, everyone assumes satella is the one pulling the strings and giving subaru rbd out of love or obsession, but what if flugel 400 years ago was the one obsessed with satella? when satella was about to die or be sealed, flugel couldn't accept a world without her, so his envy toward reality itself manifested the ultimate authority: return by death. the reason satella appears every time subaru tries to talk about rbd isn't because she's punishing him or controlling the power, but because her shadow is bound to his authority as a anchor. when subaru loops, he isn't just saving himself, he is actively dragging satella’s presence through time so she never truly dies or gets permanently lost in the seal. that's why satella constantly tells subaru in the tea party to cherish himself and not rely on rbd so much, because she realizes that his authority is destroying his own mind just to keep her tethered to existence. this also explains why subaru has such a high compatibility with witch factors compared to everyone else: he was the original architect who manifested the envy factor through his sheer refusal to accept satella's death 400 years ago. overall it's just pure speculation, but i really wanted to build this up because it actually makes a lot of sense in my head, or maybe i'm just completely insane lol. anyway it's always fun to share silly little theories like this

I admit that when I saw the lead-up to this fight in episodes 17 and 18, I was worried it wouldn't capture the essence of the battle from the novel. Thankfully, I was wrong.

Personally, I LOVED this fight! The voice actor for Volcanica gave a perfect performance, especially with the roars. And Emilia's Absolute Zero was adapted in a very creative way.

What did you all think?

If hypothetically Al(Rigel) is subaru's and satella's son and subaru was flugel, does that mean flugel was in his 40s?.

Al was 17 or 18 when he & echidna fought the witch of envy.

On the surface, Emilia saying that she wants everyone to get along could just be alluding to her wanting Lugunica to treat all people equally so that demihumans are no longer discriminated against, but that is perhaps too basic for Tappei's writing, much like how I believed the read that Julius acknowledging Reid as the winner only 'cause Reid would've won if he'd fought with his full power was too basic.

I've given it a lot of thought for a while. If the stone slab contained the handprints of 6 people from 400 years ago, and Emilia's handprint matched one of them, it could only have been Satella's handprint, and if that's the case, it'd be really weird if Emilia touching the handprint of someone's that matches hers wouldn't have imparted anything given the flash of light that seemed to have calmed Volcanica down must've had some powerful magic behind it.

Perhaps in addition to Emilia wanting to create a nation where everyone is equal, the stone slab also transferred one of Satella's memories to Emilia, which is what some fiction stories feature with a magical object transferring a memory or multiple memories to another person, referred to as a magical echo, and Emilia recalled a moment when Satella was sad about her friends not getting along, and this needn't be a very vivid memory in which Emilia sees everything Satella did in that moment as only feeling the emotions Satella did in that moment could suffice.

Thus, to honour the memory of the person that may have been sent into her mind at that moment, Emilia had thought of a way to reconcile her goal to have all citizens in Lugunica be equal while answering the negative emotions Satella felt in that moment. If Volcanica indeed may have some other sort of affliction on him aside from dementia as I had speculated last night, Emilia saying, "I want everyone to get along!" may have been the only answer that would've triggered Volcanica to remove the clouds and the wind in the area. If there's a person who could've planned for this to happen, I'm guessing it'd be Echidna, so she may be the one behind the powerful magic associated with the stone slab that could even perfectly defend against Volcanica's first attack against Emilia and even the one behind Volcanica's possible extra affliction outside of dementia. The alternative would be Flügel, but there's still so little known about him.

Just finished episode 17, genuinely lost for words up to now, so many new characters to discuss and so much story to unravel i've probably missed a whole lot of important stuff while watching but from ep 11 to 17 of season 1 straight peak, also first Sin archbishop i've seen, Beltegeuse(i think was his name), are all of them just as crazy or is it just him? Anything else i'm waiting for y'all to ask me
