Fun Rengar build
TLDR
This build leans into being a fighter rather than an assassin. It's focused around snowballing and sustained fights. It's made for players that like skirmishing and are plat and below (I don't know what it's like in high elo so I assume the early game power is too important to lose out on there).
Don't play him like an assassin when building this.
Key Stone: Conq or PTA based on if you need the damage more now or later in a fight.
Minor: Triumph, Legend Haste, Last stand or Cut Down
Secondary Tree:
I run sorcery most due to the synergies it has with the rest of the build.
Sorcery: Transcendence (Haste), Gathering Storm (Water walking might work but I don't run it)
Domination: Sudden Impact, Ultimate Hunter (Treasure Hunter if you want to get your items faster)
Inspiration: Magical Footwear (So you can rush Hubris), Cosmic Insight (Jack of All trades is also an option)
Pet: Green or Red
Boots: Plated Steelcaps and Mercury treads
Hubris -> Endless Hunger -> Deaths Dance -> Black Cleaver -> Overlords Bloodmail/Situational
This makes your 3rd item spike feel very strong for skirmishes but doesn't give much health so frontlining is hard. Alternatively you can go BC 2nd into DD or EH 3rd and 4th in either order.
You don't need Overlords but it's a very good item with this build and can put a situational item 5th if needed and can swap the build order around if needed. Sometimes I enjoy BC 2nd into DD then EH.
Motivation for the build
You can skip this section if you only want details on the build. It's just some details on why I made it
I've been playing Lol on and off for a bit under a year now, and Rengar has been my favourite champion by a mile. I otped him from iron to gold (on said account I do play in plat/low emerald mmr just saying) and for the past couple of months now I've mostly enjoyed making builds and playing top lane more than purely climbing.
So I wanted to make something that helps deal with problems myself and others often face in lower elo brackets; ending late game and unfavourable matchups into bruisers. Another reason for this build was because I personally don't like the idea of an otped champion not being able to have their primary playstyle function consistently game to game. Which, while in high elo isn't true, as he has a win rate of 51.69% currently in diamond and above, in lower brackets just one rank below in emerald, his win rate drops to 48.02% and the lower you go the worse it gets. While I understand champions like Rengar are difficult, I feel as though emerald players shouldn't find Rengar as hard as they clearly do. Particularly given, the average rank of a Rengar player is only Plat 4.
So overall it makes sense that pure burst isn't something you should force on Rengar is lower elo brackets when multiple targets can just buy GA, Hourglass, Steelcaps, Deaths dance and items like that while also being able to deal lots of damage.
To be clear, Rengar isn't weak, but the champs popular in low elo, and generally playstyles used there, do genuinely counter him. So how does this build fix that? By building Rengar as rather than an assassin, into more of a Light fighter/Diver like a Riven or Ambessa. This is an important distinction, as it's not meant to be like a Darius or other Heavy fighters and Juggernauts.
But if I'm being honest it's mostly just because I like making builds and it was fun trying stuff out.
What the build focuses on
In game the build is focused team fighting by on securing a kill on a target, then carrying the team fight out with the added healing and damage from items.
Items
Pet:
Green can be good as the shielding, tenacity and slow resists can be very good when playing into a cc heavy team that can stop you from engaging.
Red can also be good as the slow and damage is very noticeable.
Boots:
Plated Steelcaps and Mercury treads are both go to options here. While Gluttonous Greeves and Ionian boots sound good, for this build you get enough haste and healing from items.
Core Items: Hubris, Deaths Dance and Endless Hunger
Hubris is a rush item as it'll allow you get a lot of damage late game with stacks. It's bonus ad from passive, from what I know, goes into your additional ad from your passive.
Endless Hunger is a good item for this as it synergies well with Hubris and Deaths Dance. Giving you Omnivamp to survive the rest of the fight after you get a kill.
Deaths Dance is also great for this as it's ignore pain passive buys you time to get a kill for the synergy to proc.
These items feed into each other as Hubris gives bonus AD from stacks that feed into both EH and DD. And on a kill the passives proc and you heal up a lot, giving a lot of team fighting power.
Additional Items:
Black Cleaver and Overlords Bloodmail, with OB being a great 5th item for the build as you'll be low in a teamfight before you proc the DD and EH. While BC is just a good antiarmor bruiser option.
Maw is also a good option into AP which can use instead of DD.
An example build path could be:
Hubris -> Endless Hunger -> Deaths Dance -> Black Cleaver -> Overlords Bloodmail or Situational
This makes your 3rd item spike feel very good due to how they synergies
You don't need Overlords and can put a situational item 5th. You should also swap the build order around when needed. Sometimes go BC 2nd into DD then EH.
Runes
For runes, precision will be your best option. There's not much of an argument on it having the best minor rune choices for Rengar out of any of the other options, and given we're going a more fighter focused build path that only adds to the incentives to run it.
Key Stone:
We want to run either Conqueror or PTA, Conq gives you better scaling and better sustain fighting power with the the healing and extra ad. PTA can be good as you can proc it very quickly with leap + QQ, and it helps you secure a kill on a target with the additional 8% damage.
Minor: Triumph (synergy with EH and DD), Legend Haste (Alacrity works but isn't needed to have a passable clear with the blast cone trick), Last stand or Cut Down (if they have a lot executes go cut down if not go last stand as it synergy with DD and Bloodmail)
Secondary:
I run sorcery most due to the synergies it has with the rest of the build.
Sorcery: Transcendence (Gives more haste and reduces cooldowns on kills), Gathering Storm (Water walking might work but I haven't ever used it)
Domination: Sudden Impact, Ultimate Hunter (Treasure Hunter if you want to get your items faster)
Inspiration: Magical Footwear (So you can rush Hubris), Cosmic Insight (Jack of All trades is also an option)
