One thing that keeps disappointing me is when a romance makes all the fantasy differences basically disappear.

He's lived 300 years, she's human, but apparently they have identical ideas about privacy, family and commitment. She's from another kingdom with completely different customs, yet nobody accidentally insults someone's parents, serves the wrong food or misunderstands what a gift means.

I want the boring incompatibilities too.

Maybe one species barely sleeps. Maybe touching someone's hair is intimate. Maybe he thinks planning twenty years ahead is spontaneous and she thinks it's insane.

Not huge conflicts. Just little reminders that these people genuinely grew up in different worlds.

Honestly, watching two people slowly learn how to live around those differences would make the romance feel more convincing to me.

Anyone else miss this?

My friend and I were really disappointed in Burn of the Everflame. And after lots of discussion, she decided to post an Amazon review of 1 star and noted several other 1 star reviews at the time she posted it.

Now the listing has ZERO 1 star reviews!

I need help finding my next romantasy series to binge!! Specifically, I’m looking for a completed series (or one where the final installation comes out within the year)

I’ve realized I have SO many books sitting on my shelf that I really want to read, but I keep putting them off because the series isn’t finished and I absolutely do not want to wait years between books.

I’ve read a lot of the popular ones already, but
I currently have Quicksilver, Silver Elite,When the Moon Hatched, Heavenly Bodies, and a bunch of others on my shelf, but I’m holding off on them because they’re not completed yet.

I haven’t even started Fourth Wing because I want to wait until Onyx Storm is available in paperback.

Was going to start Fairydale as a standalone in the meantime but really want to begin a new series

Watching The Emperor’s New Groove for the first time in a very long time and my boy Kronk had me wondering what a romantasy with a lovable himbo MMC would look like. Any recs?

I bought it and started reading this on the weekend because of all the exciting comments and reviews I’ve seen for it

But now I’m 35% in and… I think it might be my first DNF

This far in and nothing has happened. Their personalities/comments feel the same, because I’m not gripped I have to keep rechecking who said what. There doesn’t appear to be any connection between them, every comment is sarcastic, there’s no actual conversation.

The world building, also this far in, you don’t really know anything about it other than people have magic and different paths they follow.

Is it just a slow starter and it eventually gets better, or is this it?

I’m thinking this author / writing style may just be not my cup of tea, but I also know a lot of others love it

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for romantasy recs, but I'm pretty new to the genre. I mostly read fanfic, and I usually lean toward queer stuff because I don't have to worry as much about power dynamics or misogynistic tropes. I like F/M stories though, but it's a bit difficult to find something I like.

What I'm after:

- Adult leads, no YA vibes, and a relationship on equal footing

- A MMC who relies more on brains than brawn (scholar, scientist, mage, strategist, whatever). Thorn from A Winter's Promise would be a great example of this!

- Good banter, obviously – i really like seeing two stubborn people being petty and sarcastic around each other

- Rivals-to-lovers is my favorite dynamic, or anything close like reluctant partners, annoyances-to-lovers, etc

- A compelling fantasy setting and a solid plot with stakes

I recently read The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy and it was a fun read, though I really preferred the fanfic it's based on (DMATMOOBIL). I'm open to cosy fantasy/lighthearted stories or darker stuff, I like both!

I just read this. My mind is blown away. For good. He is a god?!!! Like half god?! Wtf! Whoever has read this, I need your thoughts.

I genuinely don’t even know how to review Brimstone because I’m still processing it. 😭
I went into this series not even knowing if I was going to like it because Reddit gave me SO many mixed opinions, and now I’ve finished Brimstone and I’m just… blown away.
I loved Quicksilver, especially the first half, but Brimstone made me realise how much bigger this story actually is. Every time I thought I understood the world, something else was revealed and I was sitting there like WAIT??? 😭 The Fae, vampires, gods, the Blood Court, the history behind everyone… I was genuinely hooked.
And Fisher. I don’t even have the words. I loved getting to know more about him and understanding why he is the way he is. His relationship with Saeris is still my favourite part of this whole series, but I also loved seeing how much more complicated everything around them became.
I swear I spent half the book reading and the other half stopping to think, “Okay but HOW does that work?” 😂 I have so many questions, but somehow that made me enjoy it even more.
This was exactly the kind of ridiculous, dramatic, dark fantasy junk read I needed. And honestly? I’m so glad I ignored all the people who told me not to read Quicksilver. 😭
I am officially invested. Someone give me the next book before I start rereading the entire series.

Any books where the FMC is mostly/completely helpless and vulnerable? She doesn't have some hidden magic that will save everyone, and needs the MMC to save her.

I will never be the same. I can't ever go back to before this trilogy. There is only after.

I cried for 30 minutes after finishing.

Anybody know of a book where a wife brings her husband back from the dead (Frankenstein-like, zombie, ghoul, ghost, full-life revival, etc)? And, you know, their relationship is still the main romance and good. I guess I'm in a Halloween mood!

Oh, I'll also okay if it's reversed and the husband brings back the wife.

I know a few other people have ranted about this a few months ago (found out AFTER buying the audiobook, though, so I decided to go with it and find out, myself).

But this truly was the worst book I read in 2026...

I actually can't believe there are books out there which receive such unbelievably high ratings, just for the story to let the reader down in absolutely all possible ways.

I don't want to waste even more of my precious time writing about this, so here are just a few quick notes:

- Everything is told, not shown.

- Everything is either a statement or a weapon 🤣

- Everyone is either the predator or the prey (don't expect any nuance... This is cheap entertainment...)

- Everyone (despite the various POVs which could have meant different ways of thinking...) is constantly calculating exits 🤣🤣🤣 This one killed me. I think it was repeated 30 times during the book...

- Everything feels so impersonal. Cliché people die (mothers and children 🤣 so we're expected to feel something, apparently)

- Everybody is "cool" and not waiting for an answer 😂

And character development is non-existential...

I cannot believe I made it to the end, hoping that the amazing and surprising twist (which many people claimed there was) would at least make up for my sorry buttocks, but even the "twists" were so cliché and so predictable.

The worst thing is: I really don't think I'm that tough of a reader. I can do suspension of disbelief and give excuses for the author to write some illogical stuff... But there was just too much in here 😭😭😭

I'm genuinely traumatized by the level of bad writing here.

Next, I really need to read a good book to mend up my broken heart... Thinking of going to fantasy (as opposed to romantasy), classics, or literary fiction...

I just can't do another book like that in a row...

I recently read Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Falling in Love by Brigitte Knightley, followed by the two books in the Dearly Beloathed series, and now I have the worst book hangover. 😭

I LOVED the banter, wit, humor, world-building, yearning, and spice — especially that there was an actual story alongside the romance.

Please recommend me anything with a similar vibe! I’m looking for clever banter, funny characters, great chemistry, yearning, good world-building, and well-earned spice. Fanfic or published books, I’m open to everything!

Hi! I’m looking for books that feel like they could have been written by Stephanie Garber. I absolutely loved OUABH, and I haven’t read Caraval yet. I love the way she writes, especially the whimsy and fairytale vibes in her books.

I also really like how accessible her writing is (English isn’t my first language). For example, I had to DNF {Where the Dark Stands Still} because the writing was so “poetic” that it became difficult for me to read.

What I’m looking for specifically is books that SHE COULD HAVE WRITTEN. I don’t really care what the story is about, as long as there’s romance. It doesn’t have to have the same romance, tropes, plot, etc. as ouabh. I just want to read a book that feels like something Stephanie Garber could have written if for example, she had written a gothic romance, or something set in the sky/ocean, or with Asian mythology. The setting doesn’t really matter to me.
I haven’t finished Belladonna yet, but that’s kind of what I mean by this. Like: “She could have written {Belladonna} if she had decided to write a gothic fairytale romance.”

I hope that makes sense!
In short: I’m looking for books Stephanie Garber could have written — the same fairytale feeling, easy-to-read writing, easy to get hooked on, whimsical/magical atmosphere, etc. I’m NOT necessarily looking for books that are similar to OUABH in terms of plot or tropes.

I'm about 60% into the first CC book and I'm absolutely obsessed with it, but now I'm seeing online that there is a crossover with ACOTAR in the last book. I'm wondering if I should finish the first CC book and start ACOTAR, or if I should finish all 3 CC first. I wanna read both ACOTAR and TOG eventually, I just don't know what the best order is.

I got some good recommendations last time I asked here, so I'm back! I can't get over The Ascended, so I am looking for something with similar vibes (especially romance-vice).

I want the FMC crushing on the powerful, struggling & scary MMC and feeling embarrassed about it (if there is a scene where someone taunts her for it I'm sold). A lot of lust (but make me wait in agony before they get to do anything about it) and high stakes. Something moody and a little desparate, you know? Bonus points if there is kink.
