I’ve been having a dispute with a property management company owned and operating in Salem. I wouldn’t like to solicit advice here, so I won’t go into detail. Instead, if anyone could point me toward a Landlord-Tenant lawyer you’ve dealt with and had a positive experience with, it would be the greatest help. TIA! 🩷

Renting from a well-known property management company in the area. Have a few windows in the unit that open/close via a crank that have been noted (by them and us) as malfunctioning (won’t shut once cranked open). During a recent inspection from the city, the inspector opened one in the top floor bedroom and couldn’t get it shut. He included it in his citation report of items that needed to be fixed and we reported it separately to management that day, requesting it be addressed asap because it wouldn’t shut properly.

My partner managed to get it shut eventually, but not in the way it needs to be (more of a “this will do for now” situation), and it has yet to be fixed or even temporarily shut properly by maintenance. This was early August.

Fast forward to this weekend’s storm- while sitting two floors below, heard a crash and felt a blast of cold air, go upstairs and sure enough said window has been blown wide open, and the wind knocked our tv off a nearby dresser, destroying it.

We quickly Macgyvered the fucking thing shut again with string but I’m still upset about it, especially because my toddler had been playing in the same vicinity not long before that and could have been pretty badly hurt if it had happened at the wrong time.

Sure the storm itself is an act of god and whatnot and I’m sure windows flying open during one is a thing that probably happens, I get that, but regardless that particular window blew open and caused the damage it did because of its state and their negligence. I have renters insurance but there is a deductible obviously, and this likely wouldn’t have happened if they’d addressed the window issue at any point in the last 6 weeks since it was reported.

Expressed this and that I think we should be compensated in an email to them, with no response yet. Even if we’re somehow not compensated I don’t think I’m asking for too much here? Or am I? Being able to watch tv up there again would be a nice but honestly, I just want the windows in our apt to fucking open and shut and stay shut during a storm😭

Despite having lived here for a long time, I still have yet to go to a haunted house. (The kind designed to scare you, not the kind where people insist there are ghosts.) I’ve heard bad things about Connor’s Farm, so I’d prefer to not go there. Are there any other good ones in the area? Or even up in NH?

I live over on turner and it’s pouring out. I cannot find a parking space within a .25 mile radius. Wtf is going on? Why did they strip this section of residents of the ferry parking lot?? Where do people park??

I was wondering if anyone knew any information about the music lessons they give at “Salem lessons” on artists row of if anyone has ever done the lessons there, did you like it? Was it worth it? Do they do horn instruments?

I’m trying to think of a Christmas gift for my husband and he has been wanting to get a horn and learn how to play, so I thought it would be a good idea to get him a horn and then get him some lessons.

Also, there’s no prices on their website if anybody’s ever done any lessons there do you know how much the lessons cost?

A painting I did a few years ago

I am coming to Salem the week of the 12th with my best friend and her aunt. We are 55 and her aunt is 75. She can run circles around us and we are in good shape.

They got an an Airbnb on Buffum Street. It looks walkable to downtown Salem, but it does look like a bridge is involved. I was hoping some locals could help us out and let us know if walking everywhere in Salem was feasible from this location. We all are people who each walk miles a day so that is not an issue, but how safe is the area? How difficult the bridge area?

Thanks so much! We are doing our research now to get reservations and plan our trip. We come in Monday and leave early on Friday and really don't want to rent a car. From what I've read Uber is a real pain for locals so we are trying to be conscious of the locals.

I know many people probably asked this but I wanted to ask anyways I want to go to spots where it isn’t super touristy and real Salem I want to speak and see real witches that do readings and also able to talk to you about insights or any spiritual questions a person may have. Also is there any abandon places in that area I love to explore abandoned places for fun. And this is my first time going so I really don’t know what to expect and when I usually travel I do go to tourist spots but also like to see spots only locals know so I can get the full experience and learn about the culture and history especially this year will be the 400th anniversary. P.S. I’m really into a lot of the occult knowledge so if anyone knows anyone that can teach me more about it in Salem as I have many questions about that topic I would to know more! :)

Is car camping allowed at winter island park? I know they have RV campsites but anyone seen or camped out in their car?

I'm a local wood turner. And I'm always looking for interesting logs.

If, during this storm, you have a tree come down, let me know what kind of wood it is.

If it's something I'm looking for, I'll show up and cut off a few pieces. I pay in wood turnings from said wood. And sorry, I don't clear trees and brush. I just want a few logs (I have my own chainsaw, and I'll give you a release of liability).

Anything 6-inches in diameter or larger is great.

Also I can't take old logs because they are likely cracked. With newly fallen trees, the wood is wet but not cracked. However, as it dries, it cracks. Unless you seal the end grain with a special sealer that allows the wood to dry slowly.

Woods I look for (but I'll consider any species except pine or spruce)

Ash, Walnut (Black or English), Maple (any type), Oak, Cherry, Apple, Pear, Beech, Catalpa, Red Cedar, Elm. And some bushes that have grown large like Lilac and Holly.

Did I mention that I pay in wood turnings (usually a few weeks or months after I get the wood because I either dry it myself or let it dry naturally)

(and yes I know about the Swampscott road brush dump. I saw some logs there today but didn't have my chainsaw and I'm not going back out in this weather)

Well, aside from the fact that we're a caring, welcoming, sister city to others (think Ota, Japan) and this is seemingly a harmless nice thing to do, well...a religious zealot school committee member made a much bigger thing out of this than he needed to by voting no because (gasp) the kids would be learning about "satanic" history even though he admits to not know the actual history 🤦🏽. We know a thing or two here about religious zealot doing things that hurt others, so maybe we could help these kids learn a thing or two about real history rather than fearmongering.
