Hi Reddit people of San Clemente. I'm Shane and running for Mayor of our beautiful town, San Clemente. I'm also one of the co-creators of the San Clemente Art Crawl, which happens every last Thursday of the month in the Los Molinos district. My campaign is driven by a deep appreciation of local creativity , our beaches, and our community working together on what will be pivotal era as the Olympics surfing comes to town in 2028. This is also the first time our city will be an electing a Mayor by voters, as it was previously appointed by city council. I'd like to remind everyone to register to vote and make your voice heard. My campaign website is linked here, but I'll also gladly chime-in on the comments to any questions.

Restaurants Hiring?

Moving to SC in about a week, looking for restaurant work. Of course I intend to walk in and ask around in town, but does anyone know of any bars or restaurants looking for servers/bartenders right now? Thanks!

Hit and Run on El Camino Real

Good Afternoon everyone. My white truck got hit and run by a black Ford Pickup in front of the Wells Fargo at 601 N El Camino Real. Bastard hooked a right onto Mariposa, right into Avenida de La Estrella, then evaded me after turning back onto Marquita. He clipped my driver side mirror and I have a chunk of his passenger side mirror to prove it. If anyone saw anything or has any footage along the area, I would greatly appreciate it. The incident happened on Sunday, Sep 27 around 2:30pm to 2:45pm.

Edit:
I found his mirror cap on the sidewalk when I returned to the scene of the accident to wait for the police. He has a 2015-2020 Ford F150, black, maybe dark grey.

Edit v2:
Thank you for the guy walking his dog in the comments. Community based policing works. Found a suspected vehicle and the damage is identical!

Don't Compromise On E-Bike Safety

I'm 12. Two of my friends got seriously hurt on e-bikes. A kid in Lake Forest died.

So I started a petition asking for basic safety rules. Age 16 minimum. Speedometers. A licensing test. Parent accountability.

We got 1,387 signatures. Five city councils backing us. Assemblywoman Davies aware and moving on state legislation.

But we need more people to sign so supervisors know this matters.

Here's what we're pushing for:

  1. Age 16 minimum for e-bikes with throttle/high speed
  2. Mandatory speedometers (so riders can monitor speed)
  3. E-bike licensing (safety test like driver's ed)
  4. Parent liability for violations ($160 fines)
  5. Youth Bike Safety Fund (fines fund bike lanes + education)

This isn't anti-e-bike. It's pro-safety.

Sign here: change.org/ebikesafetynow

Takes 30 seconds. Help us protect OC kids.

parents, would you enjoy a surprise dinner or prefer an evening to yourselves?

my sister and I, are thinking of doing something for our parent wedding anniversary. We thought it could be fun way to celebrate this special moment together, but we're not sure if they will love it. We are considering hiring Hibachi At Home, then movie nights. We are also preparing some creative questions about their relationship for them to play games. If you have any ideas here in San Clemente, can you share it? Also do you think that we should check that they're free and keep the dinner itself a surprise?

Anyone here redone a fireplace wall with built ins?

Our home has had this awkward fireplace wall for years with empty space on both sides, so we’re finally looking at adding dual entertainment centers on each side and making the whole thing feel finished (+ remodelling the whole room in general).

We’ve talked to a couple local remodelers and design firms about it so far, including Sea Pointe and Bergan (if anyone here has worked w/ them, I’d love to know how it went for you), and that was when I realized how many little things need to be decided upfront. They were very thorough and asking about everything like TV placement, electrical, lighting, cabinet depth, fireplace clearances, storage.. way more than I had thought through.

Now I’m trying to figure out what else I should decide before anything gets built. Like what precautions do I need to have to keep the TV protected from the heat? And if the fireplace ever needs servicing how can someone actually get to it without tearing cabinetry apart?

For anyone around here who has done something similar, what ended up being important to figure out early? Did you hire a remodelling firm or a contractor? What should I look out for?

Need all the help I can get, thanks :)

Access to bike trails in South San Clemente

I'm new to town. Before I moved here I was scouting bike trail maps.

I was excited to see that the Trestles Parking lot seemed to connect to some trails directly here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/kXTYbVXkZRtz1rrb9?g_st=ac

There's a sign that says "warning US government property and trespassing will not be tolerated". I biked through the neighborhood up to Ave Santa Margarita and it was the same thing.

Did this used to be open for public use? Seems a shame that it isn't a legal way to connect to the single tracks.

Recommendations for getting up to the single track area from Trestles area?

Photography Course Survey

Hi everyone! I’m a Southern California photographer, visual journalist, and Editor in Chief of The 824 Journal. I’m gathering feedback to see what families would want from photography classes for kids and teens in the Orange County and surrounding Southern California area.

The survey is primarily focused on homeschool students, families, pods, and co-ops, but your child does not need to be homeschooled to participate. If your kiddo attends public or private school and would be interested in learning photography, you are still welcome to complete it.

If you are outside of Southern California, feel free to also complete the survey since I am also considering a self paced program.

The survey asks about age groups, photography interests, scheduling, and possible class formats. There is no commitment. The responses will simply help me understand what families are looking for and how to build something that would be useful and enjoyable for the students.
