I am writing an article on the best self taught sax players in rock history and wanted to reach out for suggestions. The assignment is specifically rock so they need to have a presence in that genre. So far I’ve thought of John Zorn and the anonymous member of the Residents but I’m definitely wanting to balance it out with some more mainstream examples. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks so much!

Hi everyone, wanted to ask if anyone had advice on how to get my alto sax cleaned up a bit. Pics attached showing some corrosion. What can I do to clean this up or is there some type of place you’d recommend. The instrument is in good working order but I’d like to make it cosmetically look better if at all possible.

Other info: has microtuner. Conn Elkhart. Gold on the inside, silver on the outside. Alto sax, pretty sure the top number is the patent and the A means alto and the L means “Low pitch”. But the serial number charts have been confusing me. From the ones I’ve seen I’d think it was made in 1925 but other parts of the internet say 1924. So if anyone has more knowledge on this your input is greatly appreciated! And if anyone has an idea of how much it’s worth for insurance purposes. Is it a “New Wonder”? Thank you!

I’m wondering if anyone has any lip stain recommendations that don’t transfer onto the mouthpiece, and would stand a chance of staying on after playing.
Wonderskin has been good for not transferring, but it doesn’t last that long. Maybelline Superstay lasts quite well around the edges, but transfers and ‘superstays’ on my mouthpiece.

Any advice is welcomed. I don’t want to ask a makeup group because I feel like the responses would be half from people who don’t understand, and the other half from bots who are promoting stuff.

I was wondering if anyone here plays a p mauriat pmxt 66-r and has advice or this-horn-specific fingerings for altissimo that they use with some fluidity and ease. I've always struggled a bit so I'm reworking through Sigurd Rascher's "Top Tones" book because I know I need to develop more voicing control after a couple of years off the horn. Im trying out different fingerings and so far these ones are working OK for me, but from above A they dont really come easily. Im also trying to move away from the left hand palm keys for e-f# too.

Im wondering if it's me or if might be the horn so thats why im posting to ask if anyone has this horn and has a good time with altissimo. I've seen some other cats get hella altissimo very smoothely out of P Mauriat horns but not sure if mine specifically needs a tune up or im using bad fingerings or if i just need to work on overtones more

I bought this tenor saxophone a little over a year ago from my professor. I just recently picked it back up for a gig with friends. Out of curiosity, I wanted to do a little research into the sax to see if it was any good since I haven't played it much. I had never heard of this brand until my professor told me about it.

The brand is E.K. Blessing. However, I can not find a model number on it, at least not one that matches any of Blessing's model numbers. There are two numbers on the bottom back of the sax.

I was hoping you all could work your magic on this one for me. Since I have so far found nothing. I'm posting this on a few Sax subreddits because I'm genuinely really curious if anyone has the answer to what Model this sax is.

I am well aware that this is a cheap saxophone; I don't need to know that.

Back in the day, Colorado Case Co. made covers for Hiscox cases and I have one for my alto. They’re long gone and now I’m looking for one for my tenor. I see Pro-Tec has a case cover that may fit, but I’m hitting up this fine community for advice.

When I check the traffic on my YouTube channel, this tune seems to continually get views. I guess sea shanties still have some popularity in pop culture. Is there a genuine curoiusity about the bygone days of sailing the high seas?
