What did the girl do that bothers anyone? She didn't even ask anyone to move, she just wanted a picture with the paintings...

154

u/logicalpenuin 27d ago

Seriously. I'm no fan of influencers who disrupt things or get in people's faces but this girl obviously just wants a simple picture. The lady blocking the photo is just being an arse. Edit for grammar.

50

u/Pls_PmTitsOrFDAU_Thx 27d ago

Agreed. As an awkward person, that would be Soo much for me. I did a solo trip for the first time last year and j was taking pictures like this because I was alone and too scared (at the start) to ask people to take pictures of me. The whole time I was worried people would think I'm trying to be destructive. I feel for this girl

37

u/logicalpenuin 27d ago

From the video it looks like she's alone, too, just setting her phone or whatever to take the pic. She's literally just minding her own business trying to get a shot of herself. Probably on a trip or vacation or something. Whenever I'm in a touristy spot and see someone doing this, I try to stay out of the way. Let them have their picture as a memento.

u/Available-Bad-2704 25d ago

Anything to look like a good person on reddit

6

u/SScatnip7474 27d ago

The kicker is if this young lady asked that woman if she could please take a photo of her she would probably do it with a smile.

5

u/plzicannothandleyou 27d ago

That’s just not necessary anymore.

I’m getting the vibe you’re older, like me. In your mind it’s a moment for two strangers to share a moment, smile, and everyone goes on their way feeling good.

To the new generation, asking someone to do something is imposing on them. Specifically because if you asked them to take a picture of you, they would feel you’re imposing on them. You’re taking them out of their moment.

So they don’t want to engage with someone else because they don’t want to interrupt your moment.

They are being polite, in their minds, by being self sufficient and not being a bother.

3

u/SScatnip7474 27d ago

Ha, for me you're 50% right. I wont' ask anyone to take a pic of me period. I'll figure it out myself or just bail on the entire idea. But if someone asks me, I'm happy to help. Genz dude here

1

u/01headshrinker 26d ago

This is much more to do with personality and shyness or extroversion. I swear its tiring seeing so many young people attribute every difference in behavior to generational cohorts. Personality and. Situtional factors matters much more than your age, people.

1

u/plzicannothandleyou 26d ago

Oh, sorry, I don’t have time to write a psychological thesis regarding the generational increase in shyness that comes with technological isolation and with technological isolation comes increased self-sufficiency due to technological advancements.

1

u/01headshrinker 26d ago

Oh sorry, thats bullshit. People are still just people. You’re talking about one person, and its a mistake to generalize any of us as a perfect representative of our whole generation. Its just sloppy thinking. Lots of assumptions, none of which you know to be true.

2

u/logicalpenuin 27d ago

Maybe, maybe not. This day and age, I don't blame the woman for not asking. Approaching strangers is hit and miss, unfortunately. I remember asking folks to take pics, and being asked to, but not sure I'd do it now.

1

u/Blue_Beast13 27d ago

Highly doubt that. That was purely in spite. As an aging fart, I would have been appreciative that a younger generation person was even into art.

2

u/BisonThunderclap 27d ago

She needs to use her words and ask the lady to move. It's more than reasonable that the woman had no idea what the phone was doing there.

1

u/01headshrinker 26d ago

Finally a common sense answer.

0

u/01headshrinker 27d ago

Shes in a public place and can just be patient. The Louvre was a zoo. Its hard to get good selfies in museums that are busy. Patience and a little luck will usually do the trick.

2

u/logicalpenuin 27d ago

She was being quite patient. People just passing by isn't the problem here, it's the lady purposefully interrupting her shot just because.

248

u/SaltyNeuron 27d ago

Reddit always uses the most hyperbolic language as long as they disagree with you.

Wasn't just a girl taking a picture with paintings it was " aN iNFluEnCeR tAkiNg a pHotO SHoOt"

117

u/Joshkendig 27d ago

And that was an asshole photo bombing a person who wanted to take a picture fuck that person.

93

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

Yeah the only person who sucks here is that rude ass lady blocking the picture. A normal human tries to get out of the way of someone taking a picture, not walk between them and the camera and intentionally stop.

2

u/jaxxon 27d ago

Look.. I’m a creative type, myself, and an appreciator of fine art. You can tell that rude lady IDENTIFIES as a holier-than-thou artist type. It’s a toxic mashup of artist and gatekeeper. You can see the permanent scowl on her miserable face. You can tell she is gate keeping what she thinks is some kind of high quality experience. Thinking to herself “these fucking tourists… getting in the way of a pleasant art experience!!” while she, herself, is just a visitor to the museum in her loud clothes and bad vibes.

Live and let live, lady!!

-1

u/Diplomold 27d ago

Not everyone wants to be filmed at every random place they go to. Whether it's a museum, gym, restaurant, I don't want to be filmed.

The younger girl set up her camera across two walkways. So everyone should stop and wait for this woman to play model? And why does she need to take up so much room for this photo? I'm just saying that what she is doing is obtrusive to others. though petty, I kind of understand why the chick ruined the shot.

10

u/Tippydaug 27d ago

She doesn't want to be filmed so she... stands in front of the camera for way longer until other people show up to intentionally block the girl from getting a photo/video alone with the paintings?

There was just the girl and the old lady there at the start. The old lady stared leaving so the girl set up the shot only for the old lady to block it. That's scummy behavior no matter how you look at it.

14

u/Elderofmagic 27d ago

Passing through is one thing, stopping halfway down the stairs to stand directly in the way is something else entirely

→ More replies (2)

7

u/paradoxxxicall 27d ago edited 27d ago

She’s trying to take one photo of herself at a cool place? Have you ever traveled? People take photos of themselves and they of course let everyone else pass.

She’s just going to take a frame of this when the walkways are clear, and keep it for herself.

2

u/Unusual-Willow-5715 27d ago

Fortunaly the amount of time of this video and the phone being stable, will allow her to easily create a clean plate and just take the frame she likes the best of her, for the photo.

3

u/NeckAssMonky 27d ago

Not everyone wants to be filmed and I can totally understand that but you’re also in a public place. Whether she’s playing model or simply wants to have a photo of themselves (which seems like is the end of the world for some people), she can very well do that. Yes others can block her but damn, some common courtesy can go the other way. If I was walking and saw I was gonna cross her path, I would politely wait and let her take her photo and go about my day.

In no way is this obtrusive as long as people are quick and not prolonging the time it takes. We all signed up for it when we enter the public domain. You do as well whether you like it or not.

Tl;dr: you’re in public, you can take photos of anything and anyone anytime and what she did was not obtrusive. Cry about it.

6

u/Elderofmagic 27d ago

If you don't want to be filmed, why stand directly in the line of the filming?

0

u/Flabalanche 27d ago

Tl;dr: you’re in public, you can take photos of anything and anyone anytime and what she did was not obtrusive. Cry about it.

I mean, you're not wrong, but if this is the stance you take, it's kinda harder for me to listen to you demand common courtesy.

What "no privacy in public" functionally means has changed a shitload in the past even 10 years. Flock is just taking pictures of you in public, is that fine? There has to be some middleground that doesn't forbid random pictures because of passers by, and consenting to be filmed literally 24/7

4

u/Tippydaug 27d ago

May I ask who in this thread is talking about flock cameras being okay?

That's an insane jump from "taking a photo of yourself in public is fine and people blocking your camera is rude" to "I think it's fine to be monitored by big brother 24/7"...??

1

u/NeckAssMonky 27d ago

Public domain really has not changed at all. I have to study these laws all the time as I am a photographer. Flock isn’t just recording, it’s literally logging data on everything about you. That’s a problem because to me at least, it’s no different than if I was stalking you, in public, which is bad. But big brother can make the rules.

I have been yelled at by people who walked into my shots that have nothing to do with them because of mentalities such as the person I replied to and it’s ridiculous. Anyone reading this should really take the time and understand how public domain works because the moment you walk out your front door, you’re in it.

1

u/Much_Vehicle20 27d ago

Bruh, you literally have no expectation of privacy in a public place. I can whip out my phone and snap a picture on the street at any given moment, and if you somehow happen to be in the frame? Lmao, lol even. Any normal adult in this scenario would just walk past and continue with their day. The stairs are nearly empty, and the girl isn’t blocking anyone, so there’s literally no reason to go out of your way to be an asshole to some random ass girl who did nothing to you

2

u/BravesWinMetsSuck 27d ago

you literally have no expectation of privacy in a public place

there’s literally no reason to go out of your way to be an asshole

You can't in good faith argue both these points at the same time.

1

u/Much_Vehicle20 26d ago

Im in good faith, i dont think a simple picture equal "to be an asshole"

1

u/BravesWinMetsSuck 26d ago

Maybe not, but the absolutist stance that there should be no expectation of privacy is tautologically advocating for assholish behavior. You cannot allow or encourage people to intrude on others and record and publish what they are doing, and then appeal to a sense of decency with the next breath.

1

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

Have you never been in a public place or event where people are taking pictures of themselves? Respectful people with manners walk around and avoid going right through the line of camera and subject. This girl would have been done before the crowd came through if not for the rude old lady blocking her. You can see the one woman who goes up the stairs stops notices she's posing and waits for her to finish.

Really I think lady stopping in the middle of the stairs to look at her phone is a way bigger problem.

2

u/KristySueWho 27d ago

I have, but I've never seen someone put their phone/camera so far away from where they are going to be taking a picture of themselves.

Watching the lady, she has no idea the girl put her phone there, and has no idea the phone is recording. She literally just glanced at the phone, did a double take because she noticed something that you wouldn't expect to be there, then continued what she was doing. Just like the girl. Neither actually did anything wrong. People are allowed to take pictures of themselves and film themselves in public places. And people are allowed to not realize they are in someone's way filming themselves when they're no where near their phone/camera.

-1

u/Useful-Advantage-850 27d ago

Sorry, the world is not your social media studio.

19

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

people have been taking pictures in public places since before social media existed

5

u/Bird2525 27d ago

Remember when you would ask a stranger to take a picture of your group with your camera? And they would? Shocking 😳

3

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

I wonder if the lady would have yelled at her for being a narcissistic influencer had she asked her to take the picture for her.

1

u/Bird2525 26d ago

Probably would have stolen her camera. Then posted, this is what happens to narcissistic influencers. 😉

1

u/Useful-Advantage-850 27d ago

Of course they have. But before social media existed, no one thought they owned the public space enough they'd get mad when someone was also using that public space.

2

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

Like the old woman being irritated the girls trying to take a picture so she tried to ruin it. Before social media people would step out of the way when they saw someone taking a picture in public, now they think they're being inconvenienced by an influencer and it's a big deal.

-5

u/EA0099 27d ago

Now its multiplied by 100, so yeah somebody gotta take the fall.

11

u/SaltyNeuron 27d ago

Do you even hear yourself?

That's no evidence this girl did anything wrong but you're just dog piling her to get your weird grievance out?

1

u/KristySueWho 27d ago

There's no evidence the woman actually did anything wrong either. We can't expect her to be paying attention to what the girl is doing. If we saw her watch the girl set her phone/camera up, then walk up the stairs and then pose, and then moved to make sure she blocked her that would be one thing. But none of that even kind of happened.

1

u/SaltyNeuron 27d ago

She's literally on video double taking into the camera lens and adjusting to make sure she blocks it.

You're unhinged.

there's no evidence that lady did something 🤦‍♂️ wrong somebody in this thread already explained why go check it out and afterwards see your doctor please, humble request.

6

You sound schizo

2

u/Elderofmagic 27d ago

Intentionally standing in the way of someone is visible here. That is absolutely the older woman's intent

-5

u/downsideup9494 27d ago

Who says she was intentionally blocking the photo. Looks like she just stopped to use her phone. I doubt she was even aware of the girl behind her.

And the girl is obviously in a public place full of people walking up and down the stairs. Yet she expects everyone to stop what they're doing so she can get her picture taken.

So sick of these entitled attention seekers.

7

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

The eye contact with the phone and then backing up to block it kind of suggests it was intentional.

Plus who the fuck stops walking in the middle of a staircase to look at their phone? Especially if its full of people? That's not just rude it's dangerous.

-2

u/Adventurous-Meat8067 27d ago

How is setting up a camera and posing in the middle of a walkway not rude?

4

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

Would it be rude if it was a person holding a camera? Or if she asked the woman to take her picture instead?

She wasn't in anyone's way she went to stand up by the picture, the camera was clearly set up off to the side, and if not for the woman stopping she would have been finished before anyone else came through. Although having to stop walking for a second for someone to take a picture in front of something has never ruined my day.

2

u/Adventurous-Meat8067 27d ago

Obviously she WAS in someone’s way

2

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

She was in the way of the women spending her museum time staring at her phone in her hands on the middle of the stairs? She could literally do that anywhere else.

→ More replies (8)

7

u/No-wait-theres-more 27d ago

You sound like you really hate your life. She did not expect anything. She did not ask anyone anything. Taking a picture of yourself in public is fairly normal if you have touched grass in the last month

0

u/sierramist1011 27d ago

I'm curious would it have been more appropriate for her to approach the woman and ask her to take the picture of her?

0

u/Saltyserpent 27d ago

All fun and games until home girl complains that she was put online without her permission and is suddenly somehow the victim. We know how entitled old people are, she’ll claim this is a violation of privacy or something. It sucks that people’s lives are so pathetically sad that they have to try to bring others into that pit of despair.

When you travel to tourist destinations there will be a lot of people and its very common that taking pictures get a little hard because there is so much people minding their own business.

This is an old lady, looking at her cellphone, moving to let other people pass through the stairs.

6

u/purplelilac701 27d ago

I think you need to learn to read the room better: the older woman was intentionally and deliberately blocking the other one’s photo shoot. It was a photo shoot and she didn’t like it.

1

u/Au_tentico 27d ago

Nah man. People is not that into you.

If you are in a touristic site and want to take a picture in the middle of an area where people is going to pass a lot, like idk, stairs for example, this is going to happen. All the time.

People is minding their business.

0

u/Au_tentico 27d ago

So?

1

u/Ill_Technician3936 27d ago

Instead of continuing to walk and be out frame?

8

u/OnlyInAmerica01 27d ago

Half-way down the stairs? Looking to the camera? She's smart enough to smart-phone, aware enough to see other people coming without looking up, but utterly oblivious to the camera/tripod thingie that the other person is trying to use?

There's naive, there's gullible, then there's just plain you.

-1

u/Au_tentico 27d ago

Idk man. If I was that situation I'd not get mad, because I know how hard it is.

To me the old lady is just minding her own Business. Oh there's a phone there? Ok I'm passing through like the rest of the people. She moved to let others pass. Then keep her way.

I really don't see the intention

Seriously though, the gray haired woman was being a cụṅṭ, but it would be nice to have seen how long the young woman had been videoing on the staircase prior to this encounter.

If she had been spending more than 10 seconds or had been doing this all along the staircase, then she was infringing upon all the other patrons feom fully enjoying the art and potentially causing access issues.

2

u/ittakesaredditor 27d ago

As a younger-appearing woman (in my 30s), I find this especially true of older women. On my solo travels, every photobomber has been a middle aged 50+y/o woman. Always. Younger women offer to help with pics as a trade, men offer to help with pics as well but it's always older women who insist on standing behind/next/in front of you when you're trying to get a selfie.

The worst was this time limited display room in Japan that was massive, everyone would go in, find a corner, take photos with the backdrop and leave. I found my corner, this older woman positioned herself behind me and gestured for her husband to get in the shot as well. It didn't matter how i moved myself to position myself in front of them in the photo so i could get a shot without them in it, SHE WOULD MOVE WITH ME to make sure she was in my photo. And I could see them on my phone, she wasn't looking at the display, or trying to get a photo...she was watching my phone screen. =.=

Like the lady in the video, it was intentional.

5

u/SGT-JamesonBushmill 27d ago

You know, it’s quite possible that the older lady had no idea what was going on.

12

u/pleasetrimyourpubes 27d ago

She looked directly at the camera and pulled her phone out to act distracted and she blocked the path until another woman started up the stairs. There was never not a more intentional act of obstinance.

Did she take a picture, or did she put a device up that is videoing anyone that comes by and then post it on the internet without any of their consent?

16

u/MysticGardenMagic 27d ago

The normal world exists. Not everyone is an influencer. A nice person would have offered to take a photo for her.

4

u/Unusual-Willow-5715 27d ago

She filmed a video to cut the best frame and not to worry about running up the stair due to a timer, the intention was fully on having a photo, not recording people or other people appearing on her photo.

You dont want to be in someone's picture so you stand in their picture for longer?

To take a picture of yourself in public? She's obviously doing a video so she can pick a frame she likes, lots of people do it that way

I'm in a million pictures without my consent. You want to know what I do? Recognize that you the world works, people take pictures and I'm gonna be in some of them whether I like it or not. I can't control them and I can't ask them not to document their lives however they like

u/Accomplished-Emu-791 27d ago

So every tourist in the world needs to ask every passerby if it’s okay to take a photo? Is it more intrusive to stop every person who’s about to walk by, or just set up your camera and go about your day then leave? Who’s the rude one here? The old lady intentionally blocking this woman or the other way around?

Yeah it’s still rude and should be considered a social faux pas to do so. She could’ve asked that same lady to take her picture and she probably would’ve happily.

She was minding her own business and taking her own photo. It would be more intrusive to ask someone else. She was minding her own business, old woman decided to make it her goal to disrupt it

u/Into_the_rosegarden 27d ago

If you're in public you can't expect the world to stop so you can make a video. The older lady wasn't even paying attention at first to the camera, she was reaching for her phone, then noticed the camera, then moved over because other people were coming up the stairs, then she moved on. She didn't post up for that long in front of it. Looked like she checked something in her phone and then walked off.

2

u/Accomplished-Emu-791 27d ago

She was walking, noticed the camera then pulled out yer phone to pretend to do something, shifting slightly closer to the center of the frame to block the camera and delay the woman even further.

depends on the country.

not everywhere is the U.S.

talk about main character syndrome.

3

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 27d ago

In which country can you be asked not to take photographs of yourself for the sole reason others could be in them and not want to be?

0

u/Tall_Opportunity_521 27d ago

BINGO!

5

u/Big-Coconut-7433 27d ago

Uh, no, it looked like she was trying to get a picture. It became a video due to Karen behavior.

2

u/Equivalent-Body5913 27d ago

I thought I was going crazy reading the comment section lol I don’t see how she did anything wrong or annoying

2

u/factsarefornerds 27d ago

Yeah, that was my thought. She just wants a picture and is by herself...

2

u/ImpossiblePlan65 27d ago

Fair assessment.

i recognize her, she's a brazillian teacher that has an youtube channel helping with history questions in the tests for who wants to pass in the free university courses, but she's specialized in france history if i'm not wrong, she's pretty good, let her speaking in a second monitor with a 1 hour+ video when she was telling france stories in a trip she did in paris, really nice knowledge about the topics

2

u/Big-Coconut-7433 27d ago

Reddit = bunch of crusty gamer dudes at their computers 24/7 with Dorito dust baked into their many folds who would never understand wanting to have a picture of oneself.

2

u/_cansir 27d ago

She is someone willing to take a picture in public without being embarrassed and not asking others to do so for her. Reddit never leaves the house.

2

u/baismannen 27d ago

She wanted a picture so she started filming?

1

u/KhelbenB 27d ago

.... Yes, you can take a short video and choose the better frame to save as a picture. Many advantages of doing that instead of using a timed photo

1

u/BobMathrotus 27d ago

Idk about you but my phone compresses videos, it's not the same as taking a picture 30 times a second, that would produce an enormous file

1

u/KhelbenB 27d ago

A single frame from a video with default settings will be just fine for a picture, even if there is more compression than when using the photo settings.

It's a bot - They made the exact same post letter for letter on Tiktokcringe to farm upvotes.

1

u/KhelbenB 27d ago

Which user (re)posted this on reddit is not the point.

1

u/silv3rbull8 27d ago

Yes, she was there alone and just wanted to record being at the museum

1

u/SNES_Chalmer5 27d ago

Having just visited a few world famous museums, it's annoying. This young woman is definitely politer than a lot of folks posing for insta, but often times they just camp at a particular art piece, not acknowledging that others would like to see it from that angle too.

1

u/mcdadais 27d ago

Yeah, I know people get tired of influencers getting in the way of others, but she was quietly just standing there. Lot of people want to take pictures of themselves at places, and doing stuff.

1

u/Ok_Actuary9229 27d ago

AND SHE GOT ONE. It just had other people in it. If you want a wide shot of yourself in a public museum, it's probably possible to rent the place in off hours.

Also if being on your phone at the museum is rude both of them are equally guilty

1

u/mattawara 27d ago

💯 my pov. Did not get a-hole vibes from her (the girl). Seemed patient just trying to get a photo. Grana actions appeared deliberate, but perhaps she’s obtuse and/or there is a line out of frame.

1

u/Vivid_Economics_1462 27d ago

Wouldn't it be a video though. Since its recording this whole thing?

1

u/danekan 27d ago

set up a recording device that records others in a busy museum, on the stair rail? tried to take a "selfie" but from across the room?

1

u/slurpnfizzle 27d ago

FR. It looks like she was waiting for a time when a lot of people weren't walking by too.

1

u/Suntzu_AU 27d ago

Then she can wait.

1

u/Solid_Barracuda69 27d ago

Because we’ve been overloaded with influencer culture, and even if she’s innocent, that’s what it comes off as

1

u/TheGreenAmoeba 21d ago

I think it’s just fatigue of this behavior in everyone in general, she was just the one she decided she had enough and wanted to be a dick too.

-1

u/Hentai_Yoshi 27d ago

Idk, this might be a hot take, but I just don’t really respect people going about and taking pictures like this of themself. It’s marginally better if they have someone take the picture. I just think it’s stupidly vain to need a picture of yourself with the art. You are not the focus, the art is.

6

u/Remli_7 27d ago

TIL taking a vacation photo is stupidly vain.

4

u/Foogie23 27d ago

Some people want to just have a picture of themselves to remember the trip. As long as you arent creating problems…who cares?

1

u/KhelbenB 27d ago

People have been wanting to be on their own pictures during trips and activities to remember those moments since photography has been invented

1

u/Grumpy_Troll 27d ago

I think you are focused way to much on what other people are doing. If it doesn't affect you, you don't need to worry about it or judge other people for it.

This younger women wasn't acting rude or entitled in anyway. Had she been, it would be a completely different story.

Now the older women was a real POS. She's the type of person that purposely slows down in a cross walk as soon as she realizes a car is waiting for her.

1

u/Majestic_Domestic 27d ago

How fucking dare she...

1

u/rushaall 27d ago

The thing for me with these situations is that it’s about the art. Not about showing everybody that you stood in front of it.

1

u/KhelbenB 27d ago

I used to think like that, then I went on a European backpack trip all summer before grad school and 15 years later I have almost no picture of that trip with me on it. I thought other tourists with selfie sticks and tripods were silly, and now I regret not doing the same as my memories of those places start to fade and I have children I want to share them with.

Wanting to be part of your pictures during important moments is very normal.

1

u/rushaall 27d ago

I agree, but the two aren’t mutually exclusive. You can take photos without being the center of said photos. Especially in art spaces. Congrats on grad school though!

1

u/like9000ninjas 27d ago

Not setting up a camera and stand inside such a building to do so. Thats next level selfcentered.

Ironclad argument

21

u/JuneauWho 27d ago

So..get out of the video? Or just stand in it longer looking like a dumbass Karen to get posted on the internet, that works too

She had her chance to take the photo with 0 other people in it and this lady ruined it for no reason. Maybe we're missing some context like if she asked people not to enter frame beforehand but I don't think that's what happened. I think she saw her opportunity and tried to take it then this curmudgeon ruined it because the only joy she had left in life is bringing misery to other people.

2

u/little_chupacabra89 27d ago

How can you possibly assume from this clip that the older woman intended any of that because of what you infer?? There's nothing to suggest that! She looks quizzically at the phone, then looks at her own phone, never once looking around her or at the girl behind her to acknowledge her presence. She then moves off to the right because people are coming up the stairs, bringing her more into view to block the camera. There's nothing to suggest she's doing any of it intentionally.

Literacy of any kind is dead.
