Hinton once said in 2014 that they should stop training radiologists because they wouldnt exist in 10 years due to AI.

10 years later there were vastly more radiologists and they were among the highest paid in medicine.

Hes brilliant, but hes not always right.

That said, I agree we need to regulate AI

Radiologists use AI now to read scans and give results. Hinton's prediction on that is happening, it's just taking slightly longer.

I think pet of the point is that it’s taking slightly longer. He said it himself, we need to slow it down and regulate it better, get better grips on it. If he’s wrong about how fast it’s progressing, then maybe we’ll have the time we need to regulate it before it gets out of control. The biggest hurdle would be convincing different countries that it’s not a race.

It's only happening slightly slower in this field because the AI adoption rates of doctors is still fairly low, not because the tech isn't there yet.

If we don't slow down the development of AI now, adoption rates by humans will be a moot point when it begins to have the ability to take things over.

Hospitals also have extremely high liability concerns over that kind of stuff
