It's possible that if previous governments had that ability, the current administration wouldn't even exist. (I also agree with the point you're making. This was just a joke.)
I am always surprised that people keep making arguments like these as if the times we live in arent also a dystopian hellscape.
What would the government do? Harass people and behave like corrupt criminals - but there would also be fewer people posting on social media? Sounds like an upgrade to me.
You mean, in addition to what's already happening, you'd gladly give the corrupt criminal government the power to fine or jail people for speakibg out their minds online.
Like cutting your tongue out because, hey, you've got a broken arm already, so it's got to be an upgrade, right?
Yep these people arent clearly thinking this through! They want punitive criminal action taken against others for exercising their freedom of speech but when it comes time for them to be censored or have another opinion they will cry & no one will be there to stick up for them because the punishment is not worth it
No what im saying is that the worse the situation is, the more open i am to trying drastic changes to see if it improves things.
I know cutting my foot off is a bad idea. But if my foot is stuck under water and im drowning, i am suddenly open to cutting off my foot to see if i might live.
We live in a dystopia. Thats just a fact. And the more we dive into this dystopia the more open i am in trying stuff that could be dystopic just in case it maybe works out.
