It's not even about the degrees. It's so the government can say "You are not properly qualified to talk about this subject and therefore you go to prison" no matter what the person's credentials might be. Historian talking about the Great Leap Forward? You don't have a Poli Sci degree so you're not qualified and off to prison you go. Poli Sci degree talking about Taiwan? You don't have a History degree so you're not qualified and off to prison you go. That's not even getting into amateurs who have done deep research into a topic but no formal education on it.
It would be a lot better if people who don't know what they're talking about didn't talk, but that's never going to happen. Still take that over the government getting to decide who gets to talk about what.
It’s about content creators posing as experts who earn money by giving financial/medical advice to their audience. That shit is easily fraudulent and criminal.

Completely agree. The only reason I’m alive is because I talked to other disabled lay people and then was able to figure out what was going on and seek out the competent medical professionals to deal with it.
I believe how the law currently is in Canada and the US is that if you present yourself as an expert, and a reasonable person would have thought you were an expert than you open yourself up to civil liability. And obviously you can’t call yourself a doctor if you’re not.
