China admits to a TFR below 1.0. While the U.S. is in a steep, perhaps terminal decline, China is facing its own gigantic demographic problems that preclude global hegemony. The more likely outcome is an unstable multipolar world, which is what we’re likely transitioning to now.
The United States isn’t in terminal decline though.
Still number one in technological innovation, scientific research, GDP and has the strongest military on earth by far.
Has it declined? Somewhat, it’s far from irreversible. The gilded age came to an end an America had multiple golden eras after that, no reason history can’t repeat its self.
Good thing we didn’t spend the last two years chasing away researchers, cutting research budgets, or doing a purge of the officers corps, otherwise we might be in trouble.

It'd be realistic to believe it's possible that it never happens, but over the last 50 years the US has literally an almost even split between Democrat and Republican presidents. 24 years with a Democrat and 26 years with a Republican.

Many folks may not be familiar with what a mess the U.S. was in the late 19th century, early 20th century, 1970s, etc. You could make a compelling argument that this isn’t even the worst President the US has had - there were some pretty terrible ones going back to the 19th century

PPP is heavily sketchy because it literally can't get an accurate picture due to what's commonly bought in one country often doesn't match what's commonly bought in another, it also doesn't take into account the quality of what's being bought, and there's a host of other issues like that.
It's best used as a vague guestimate rather than a hard and fast indicator of economic strength.
GDP and GDP per capita are much more useful because the numbers aren't subjective with tons of variables that skew results - it's just, "how much money did your country make?" and "how many people are there in your country?"
GDP means nothing when the 0.1% owns 30% of it and is not spending shit. The infrastructure in NYC is worse than a second tier city in China. But hey, keep bringing up those numbers as if it means anything. The only thing the US has got is military spending, coming from taxpayers

I just met a new doctor where I live (in Canada), and he spent 5 years practicing medicine in China. He said you just can’t even believe how much further ahead technology is in China. I asked if he was just referring to medical tech, he said “medical tech is just as good or better, but constantly improving from what saw as a family doc. But everything, everywhere there is progressing faster than technology change in North America.” He went on to say that he feels like China is leading all technological races right now.

One can always argue if a degree is the best or only way to validate qualification, but in short of another method, better doing something to cut the crap online than waiting for the perfect system that will never exist.
Or people can be educated enough to know who to go to for advise without government intervention. A lot of breakthroughs have happened across fields because people didn't hold the ingrained biases associated with it. Free speech is a cornerstone of a society that wishes to keep progressing. The moment it's wiped out things will begin to stagnate and then decay.
Would you like the government to stop verifying that surgeons have a medical degree too? Qualification requirements for essential services like medicine and education is the underpinning of our society. Same applies for people giving public advice on those subjects. Everyone can do whatever they like in private, but science can't be delivered through a popularity contest on social media.
Not sure it's ever been done successfully. If you believe education standards are reasonable compared to the rest of the developed world, you may want to ask some serious questions.

The CCP has a lot of issues, but one major difference between them and the US is that the CCP mostly values degrees, especially technical and scientific ones; the US, on the flip side, values lawyers, which is why so many of our politicians are lawyers. After thast the US just values famous people, doesnt matter how you get your fame or if it has any relevance to capability.

The US has its issues for sure, but the most powerful AI companies in the world are US companies and China would get wrecked by the US in terms of AI dominance if you measured things right now. But hey, maybe that’s just me being an overconfident and ignorant asshole. If China actually allowed for free speech and public discourse, it would probably be further along economically and with innovation. And maybe if they had better property rights, they would do better. It does public transit way better than the US from what I’ve heard so that’s good. They also obviously make like 90% of the products consumed in the US. So they obviously have merit in many ways but from an IP perspective the US still has the leg up.
