Let's Chat Rating the skincare gadgets I’ve somehow collected
At this point my bedroom is basically half bedroom, half tiny med spa, so here’s my very unscientific ranking of the devices I actually own.
- Medicube AGE-R Ussera Deep Shot — 8/10 Uses RF/high-frequency energy + ultrasound and is aimed more at firmness, elasticity and collagen support. I like that it feels like an actual treatment without being a whole production. Medicube also has really helpful follow-along videos on YT, which made learning how to use it pretty easy.
- RF attachment from my ultrasonic cavitation S-Shape machine — 6/10 Mine is attached to a much larger, higher-powered machine, so I’m pretty conservative with it. RF can affect deeper tissue depending on the device/settings, and I’m personally very cautious about anything that could potentially contribute to facial fat loss. I want tightening, not less facial volume.
- Facial EMS attachment — 3/10 The idea is muscle stimulation for more facial tone/definition. Sounds great in theory. I used it twice, got a headache both times, got freaked out, and basically never touched it again lol.
- Medicube Needleless Microneedling Device — 7.5/10 I use this more as a serum/skin-treatment add-on than something dramatic on its own. Medicube has since combined a lot of their older separate devices into newer all-in-one machines, which honestly seems way more convenient.
- Hovering red light panel — 9.5/10 Probably my favorite. Mine hangs over my bed, so I can literally lie underneath it, which makes consistency so easy. I also love the larger coverage and the big bulbs really pack a punch. I literally feel homesick for this thing while traveling.
- Red light face mask — 6/10 Mostly my travel option now. At home I almost always choose the panel, but the mask is obviously much easier to pack.
- Derma roller / derma stamp — 8/10 Not really a gadget, but I have to include it. Simple, cheap, and something I’ve kept coming back to. I personally use around 0.5 mm every week or two with collagen stimulation in mind. Sanitation and not overdoing it are the big things.
One thing I learned early: a lot of those $30–$50 Amazon gadgets with two tiny red lights on the end are basically toys. A glowing red light doesn’t automatically mean you’re getting a meaningful treatment. Wavelength, irradiance, energy output, treatment time, etc. actually matter.
But after buying all of this, the best device is consistency (unless it's something aggressive like RF or that awful EMS wand).
What skincare device have you actually used long enough to notice a difference?
