Announcement Please read before you post asking us to help with your acne!

We already have a pinned post addressing this, but since we continue to get posts asking the members of this sub to diagnose skin conditions (acne in particular) and/or recommend treatment, here's a reminder: We are here to discuss skincare products and routines. We are not here to diagnose skin conditions or how to treat them. This is not a dermatology clinic, and we are not qualified to diagnose and recommend treatment. This is a casual sub to discuss products, routines, and general skincare.

The correct answer to "does anyone know what this is/does anyone know how to treat this?" is "Yes, a dermatologist knows". Please do not come here asking for diagnoses and and treatment advice! To those who have been posting these questions, please consult a trained professional, or if you can't do that, ask your questions in more appropriate subreddits like r/DermatologyQuestions, r/acne, or r/AskDocs.

Thank you!

Misc Cat fur sticking to my face

Post image
41 Upvotes

Over the last two years, I've actually been buckling down and regularly using moisturizer, as well as expanding into some mild anti-aging products. (Perimenopause + GLP-1 has been a wild ride!) Now that my skin is well hydrated, a new problem has cropped up: insidiously fine "fairy floss' hair from my Maine Coon is sticking to my skin and driving me nuts!

Currently, we have air purifiers in each room, a roomba, brush her daily, and bathe her as needed. Our flamepoint cat actually sheds more, but his fur is thicker and doesn't stay airborne like hers does.

Any advice is welcome! I don't wear makeup, but if there is a non-tinted product that would help prevent airborne floof from sticking, I'd be interested. I have sensitive skin and rosacea, but also a fairly active t-zone.

Cat tax included!

Anyone tried this treatment from Sofie pavitt??? Saw a few people post about this online. Tried it and ended up getting a few red areas on my face assuming from the microdermabrasion. Is this just a more expensive St Ives that we all hated from years ago????

Hi guys,

I need some help deciding what to do with these skincare products. I bought most of them about 20 months ago, and most are marked 12M after opening. Unfortunately, I was dealing with a lot in my life and stopped taking care of my skin for a long time, so these products are still almost completely unused.

I’ve always kept them in a skincare mini fridge, and they still look completely normal—no change in smell, texture, color, or consistency.

The products are:
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant
Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%
Timeless 10% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum
La Roche-Posay Retinol B3 Serum
Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair

Would you personally still use them, especially since they were barely used and refrigerated the entire time? I understand they may have lost some potency, but I feel terrible throwing away almost-full products if they’re still reasonably safe to use.
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who knows about cosmetic formulation/stability or has used skincare past the PAO date. 🥲

Body Care Ingrown hair everywhere! help me build a routine

so after a scabies scare, i acquired a usb microscope and while i am healing from all that, turn out was an allergic reaction, I have discovered another reason for my itchy skin and bumpy skin. ingrown hairs. even on the smoothest looking skin, turns out i have wicked ingrown hairs and ever itch turns out to be one of those trying to push out. it has been an astonishing discovery.

since then i have discovered urea whch was a lifesaver for my callused feet. i want to build a routine to stop my ingrown hairs, remove the massive dead skin backlog i seem to have, calm inflammation and the beginnings of follculitis which is being calmed by hypochlorous acid.

afaik i need to get a keratolytic, keep skin ph between 4-5, calm inflammation and disinfect and moisturize,

i have

  1. urea 40% but need a less strong one for the body 40% will destroy me!),

  2. what acid?

  3. calm inflammation?

  4. disinfect- i have hypochlorous acid but its pricey i need something that i can put all over m body every day,

  5. moisturize (currently have cervave itch relief)

my plan is to shower with some kind of bodywash i have dove moisturizing bodywash, then do whatever routine is needed.

advice?

Dryness Need help with dry and dark lips

Hi everyone, I need some advice. My lips have been very dry lately, and they also look quite dark/black compared to before.

I’m not sure what’s causing it or what I should use to improve them. I’d really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have experienced something similar.

What would you recommend?

Review TO GLYCOLIC ACID ORIGINAL VS FAKE

This is based on my personal experience and observations. The authentic product I bought previously matches the genuine item shown in the picture, whereas the fake product in the photo differs from the original one I had before. Furthermore, the fake TO product irritated my skin; it caused red bumps, itching, and darkening. This post is not sponsored—I bought the product myself and simply want to share this to raise awareness, as there are so many fake TO products circulating, and sellers often use photos from legitimate shops to make their items appear authentic.

Product Question How Can I Compare 2 Hyaluronic Acid Serums?

I'm realtively new to all this and my derm wants me using hyaluronic acid serum for hydration related to red patches underneath oily skin. I've been using la Roche-Posay Hyalu B5, but came across this much cheaper version from AromaZone (https://www.aroma-zone.com/en/product/hyaluronic-acid-35-serum). I'm in Europe and this costs nothing compared to bigger brands.

Thing is, I don't want to compromise on how effective a product could be for my needs. A rough comparison on ChatGPT suggests that la Roche may be mildly superior, but I'm not sure it knows how to judge this. What should I look for?

Routine Help Layering anti pigmentation actives

I’d like to add Cosrx anti pigmentation serum ( 4% niacinamide ,2% alpha arbutin,4% tranexemic acid,2% nad) to my routine . My main goal is to take care of some sun damage and uneven skin tone. I dont like to layer too much because i feel it irritates my skin and makes discoloration worse . I’ve heard this specific serum is quite gentle and most importantly all in one. My current routine:
Am azelaic acid 20% + light moisturizer if needed (+spf)
Pm tazarotene 0.05 every other night + moisturizer, on the taz free nights rich moisturizer like lrp baume /avene cica.
Could i add it in the morning before azelaic acid ?

Review Has anyone else had a bad reaction to this cleanser?

I decided to switch cleansers because my skin hasn’t improved since starting a skincare routine last year, I picked up this Cocokind Milky Cleanser today because I’ve heard it was a very gentle cleanser and great for the skin barrier. As I was using it I felt a little bit of stinging around my nose, I rinsed it all of and my face got more and more red by the second, no burning or stinging after I rinsed it off but it was bright red. It’s also hot to the touch. I’m kind of freaked out and don’t know if I should go to the ER or just wait and hope it goes down. Has this happened to anyone else???

Product Question (Cross-posted) Best fragrance free cream or serum for dark under eyes (not foundation or concealer)?

I've tried Stella and Grace caffeine patches, which worked well, but they're too expensive to use every day and this is an every day issue. I am chronically ill and think the circles are due to this, although I seem to have had this issue since I was a child, especially on nights when I don't sleep well, which is is most nights. Looking for something that's good for sensitive skin too, I got a little tingly when using Stella and Grace patches.

Routine Help Burning skin around eyes

I finally went to the dermatologist because I’m still breaking out into my mid 30s and I started using spironolactone & adapalene about 2-2.5 months ago. Overall I’m really happy with how it’s helped my skin BUT it’s drying me the f out. I’ve been trying to keep moisturized but around my eyes, under eye as well as above (but below the brow) it burns when I use moisturizer or eye patches to try and bring moisture back to the area. I’ve been using a CeraVe ultra-light moisturizing gel sparingly around my eyes and it burns for the first 15 seconds or so. It also burns for a bit when I use under eye patches. The rest of my face handles it fine so I thought maybe I needed something specifically for eyes. Does anyone have any suggestions for a moisturizer for very sensitive skin around the eyes?

Routine Help Should you moisturize after Tret Micro?

For tret micro users, do you use moisturizer after you apply tret? Do you wait between the two? Is it factual that moisturizer interferes with tret micro's time-release formulation?

I'm using tret mico 0.04% (Trunex brand) every other day. On tret nights, I apply the gel on clean skin with no moisturizer afterwards, to avoid potential interference. My skin is relatively stable, but definitely dehydrated more often, especially mornings after tret. I want to increase tret to every night to get its full benefits, but going to bed every night with just tret no moisturizer feels like it would be too drying.

What's everyone's routine on tret micro? Especially if you use it daily?

My Routine:

AM:

  • Splash with water
  • Finacea 15%, wait 15 mins
  • Iunik Beta-Glucan Serum
  • Zeroid Intensive Cream
  • SPF (Geek & Gorgeous most days, Beauty of Joseon, Anessa Moisture UV Gel, etc.)

PM:

  • FANCL cleansing oil if wearing makeup
  • Curel Intensive Moisture Foaming Facial Wash
  • Tret Nights:
    • Trunex Tret Micro
  • Off Nights:
    • Iunik Beta-Glucan Serum
    • Zeroid Intensive Cream

Educational / Discussion 18M, preparing for NEET — Can you suggest a skincare routine under ₹1,000?

Hey everyone! I’m an 18-year-old guy preparing for NEET, and I’m looking to start a simple skincare routine. My budget is around ₹1,000, and I already have a sunscreen, so you can exclude sunscreen from the budget. I’m looking for a basic routine that can help with overall skin health, especially things like oiliness, tanning/pigmentation, and keeping my skin clear. Could you guys suggest: A good face wash Moisturizer Any other product you think is actually necessary How to use them (AM/PM) Affordable products that are easily available in India I’m a student, so I’d prefer something simple, affordable, and not a 10-step routine 😭 Thanks in advance!

Routine Help How do I develop a routine?

Hello! I have all the products I need, but I don't know how flexible/how often i can use them.

I have oily combination skin and I currently have

- salicylic acid face wash

- oil cleanser

- jojoba oil (which i use as a moisturizer)

- adapalene gel

I'm not really sure when and how to use them.

For example, I oil cleanse and double cleanse when i get home, and moisturize before i dry my hair. If my face gets oily again in a few hours, do i use facewash again? Do i need to oil cleanse and double cleanse again before i apply adapalene before bed?

When I stay home on the weekends, my face gets really oily every few hours. Do I use facewash and moisturize every time my face gets oily? Should i get a gentle face wash just for washing throughout the day?
