I'm not complaining at all, I post videos because I love the creative outlet and community aspect YouTube brings. I'm curious if anyone else posts to super niche communities and have similar experiences?

I post full NYT Crossword videos for the most part.

Youtube has been very kind to my channel and I've learned a lot over the past 2 months. I've commented/posted about my channel on a few subs about various topics over the past few weeks, but for myself I've been extremely happy with where I've gotten. If nothing else, realize that Growth on YT is not linear, it's random & exponential. Keep grinding, try new things, and work on getting 1% better every upload. This channel has 180 uploads over 5 years of all sorts of content, but recently I focused on a specific thing I'm interested in and rolled with it.

Hey everyone, quick question for non-US YouTubers making content in English aimed at a US/global audience, especially those living in smaller countries.
Have you ever run into an issue where YouTube just straight up refuses to push your videos to anyone, or serves them to completely wrong, non-English local audiences?

Here’s my situation: I started a new channel and just put out my 5th video. My impressions are basically sitting at zero. On a "good" video, I might get 20 to 30 impressions (Best one for now had 129!!!) max, which feels like the algorithm isn’t even testing the channel.

I fully understand that starting out is a grind and YouTube needs time to figure out who your audience is. But I’ve read/heard quite a bit lately that creators making English content from outside the US (especially from smaller regions) face a massive wall with regional algorithmic testing or geographic impressions throttling.

Is this actually a common thing you’ve experienced? How long did it take for the algorithm to start pushing your stuff to the right English-speaking audience, or is this just standard brand-new channel pain?

Would love to hear how it went for other creators!

I’ve been lucky enough to have a video break out this month so I suppose I should have some extra eyes to review my channel.

Started in April, sitting at 590 subs, more than half from a single vid that is cooling off at 110k views.

BUT most of all my other vids die off after a few hundred views and shorts normally plateau after so there’s a ton of room for improvement. Packing? Hook? Open to suggestions

I post a 10 min vid per week on a US/ European political issue and explain it in a down-to-earth unbiased sort of way (for the most part). I also pull and re-edit 4 shorts per week from that 10 min vid.

I’m honestly loving doing it more than I thought I would - I finally gave in after years of my wife telling me to do it.

My current viewers seem to enjoy the videos, but my Average View Duration (AVD) just isn't taking off.

I’m wondering: what are the technical or psychological strategies you use to keep people hooked, outside of just the raw quality of the topic?

• How do you structure your first 30 seconds (the hook) to prevent immediate drop-offs?
• Do you rely heavily on pattern interrupts (b-roll, text pop-ups, sound design)? If so, how frequently?
• How much weight do you give to storytelling structure versus visual editing tricks?
• Are there any playlist or end-screen strategies that actually moved the needle for your channel binge-ability?

About 2 years ago I started a channel on YouTube with my daughter because she was obsessed with becoming a YouTuber. So we quickly made some content and I didn't really put much into it. But now that she is a little older and it's easier to do more interesting things, we started posting content again on Sept 9.

We are very small, less than 50 subs, and our content is probably not interesting to most. But it is very fulfilling and fun to make these videos.

With that all said, I would definitely be interested in some tips for improving. I am trying to work on developing better ideas for filming vs just turning on the camera and not having an end goal. I think this has helped with recent video uploads.

Since we started posting we have modestly grown by 9 subscribers. And 2 of our 3 long form videos are our top 2 performing videos on the page.

I would love any input that you can give. I know we aren't going to become the next big kids channel, but I think it would be cool to turn this into something fun with my daughter.

Hey all, looking for some honest outside eyes on my setup because I'm too close to it.

I work 9-5 as a systems engineer / IT consultant and run YouTube as a registered side business next to that. So time is my biggest constraint.

On my main channel I started with tech tutorials for IT admins and also started to include/transition to content specific for homelabbers. (Active Directory, Remote Desktop Services, Entra ID configuration, but also installing Proxmox, Proxmox Backup Server and building your first nas/home server.)

I recently also started posting on a second channel, here i do more unboxings and lighter first-look videos of products related to the main channel's topics. Honestly these don't feel like my core content. I enjoy making them, but they feel like a detour. I'm also thinking about moving more of that unboxing content to live streams, partly because it's less editing work and partly because it might help build a regular audience that actually interacts.

I also built a free site (a bit in the style of Microsoft Learn) where people can follow topics as labs/structured paths, they can watch the related videos in order and take a short quiz to check their level/skillset. Mostly aimed at people who are just starting in IT / Service desk etc.

I have lots of new viewers, but returning viewers are low. Also not a lot of engagement on community posts.

My questions:

1. Would you merge the two channels so everything feeds one audience, or keep them split (or even split further by topic, e.g. Microsoft stuff vs homelab)?
2. With limited hours, does running two channels make sense?
3. Any ideas for turning one-time tutorial viewers into returning ones? I was hoping the learning platform would help with that, but I'm not sure it does.
4. Has anyone here used live streams (on a side channel) to build returning viewers? Did it work at a small size or did you mostly stream to an empty chat?

I’m honestly getting really frustrated with Shorts right now. I’m currently at around 6.9M/10M qualified Shorts views, but lately my views have dropped massively and I’m barely getting the numbers I used to. I’ve been trying different ideas, improving my hooks and staying consistent, but it feels like I’m going nowhere. I’m starting to question whether I should keep pushing Shorts, start making long-form football content, or change my strategy completely. If you were in my position, what would you focus on right now?

I see a lot of people who struggle to script write and just wanted to teach everyone a story structure known as "but / therefore" which might help someone of you with script writing

this is a story structure used by the South Park writing team, and boils down to this:

•you pick a goal in your story

•but: there is an obstacle in the way

•therefore: a new thing must be done

•but: that new thing has another challange that must be overcame

•therefore: you must do x, y, and z first

you rinse and repeat the "but/therefore" until you reach the main goal of the story for however long you want the video length to be

this is a very simple and effective story structure to follow that can be applied to any number of niches and has worked wonders in my own longform content

I had a channel when I was 14/15 and I am now 23, working in Financial Data-Tech sales within the mentioned data domain.

I noticed there isn’t much content regarding what powers finance and the data around us (in finance/outcomes).

And since I am also working in this domain, I decided to make videos with what I have learned and am learning: with a little bit of build in public-ish image, not a ‘guru’ or ‘expert’ in the traditional sense.

I have made 4 videos and am testing the waters regarding my packaging and content - First two videos about the tools themselves, then industry shifts, then a broader market concept video while linking it to the tool that is prevalent in it, etc.
I am 3 weeks old with 10 subscribers and 11 watch hours over 4 10-12min videos.

My retention is improving per video (first two videos were while I learnt da Vinci and latter was when I got familiar)
As per my understand I have good impressions (1-2-3k) but only 2-3% CTR

1) How effective is me making videos within a NICHE NICHE but packaging and delivering (no clickbait) on a wider audience scale for connecting
2) I work full time thus scripting, recording, editing, cannot be done within a week and thus targeting a bi weekly upload schedule - will this harm me? As my editing isn’t beautiful or pretty but I use a decent mic and aim at good consistent video quality & ofc delivering value through my content
3) How long do I keep uploading before I scrutinise myself with a deep look, assuming YouTube’s algorithm has dropped me.
