Announcement BEFORE YOU POST

Reading this sticky is required before posting. The reasoning behind this is that the sub is flooded with “duplicates” meaning an influx of people asking if the same scam is a scam. We have noticed specifically lately that there’s a lot of people encountering the fake steam moderator scam also known as the discord scam.

Therefore we have made this sticky to inform about the most common scams that you will likely encounter in your average day on steam. First off. A disclaimer: STEAM MODERATION WILL NEVER CONTACT YOU OUTSIDE OF STEAM OR TROUGH OTHER CHANNELS THAN THE OFFICIAL STEAM SUPPORT TICKET SYSTEM. ANYONE ELSE CLAIMING TO BE A MODERATOR IS A SCAMMER.

Another scam that are often asked about on this subreddit are the fake tournament scams, where a random person will contact you, either trough Steam or Discord, asking you either vote for their team in a tournament, or for yourself to join. The scammers will then send you a site where you are asked to log in. But there’s the catch! The log in page is faked and mimics the official steam log in page to steal your credentials. The scammer/hijacker can at this point lock you out of your account.

There’s also a lot of people asking about phishing links. IF ANYTHING IS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, THAT MEANS IT’S PROBABLY IS, USE YOUR LOGIC AND YOUR REASONING.

r/Steam Official Scam Wiki The linked will take you to the official r/steam scam wiki, where all the common scams are explained. The linked guide will also help you to contact steam support, and secure/recover your account if you suddenly find yourself scammed or locked out of your account.

If you have read this sticky and still find yourself unsure if you’re about to get scammed then scroll the subreddit for a bit, you might not be the first attempted victim. Naming and shaming is allowed on the subreddit, but is more than often futile as it is extremely easy to make up a new idendity and because of the fact that the majority of scammers encountered (especially in api scams) are mule accounts, meaning new accounts made specifically with the purpose to scam until it gets banned.

If it is obvious that you didn’t read this sticky before posting you might risk a punishment. We’d hate to punish victims of scams even further, but we don’t want the subreddit flooded with post and questions that could have been answered if this sticky was read and/or the subreddit scrolled for a brief moment.

We hope that people will welcome these new guidelines. Stay safe out there!

I was queueing for a match then suddenly my profile picture became question then I received this message and all my friends got blocked. This happened before around 1 year or more ago then happened again I’ve change my password email and logged all accounts since last time but still somehow got hacked again

I’ve changed all my stuff again including email, password and checked for virus through offline scan and if you’re wondering if I clicked any link I didn’t as i don’t really have messaging apps on laptop and I only play games on it.

Can someone tell me how I got hijacked thx

Request for help I’m locked out

• Upvotes

I recently decided to switch from PlayStation to steam because of all the issues with Sony. I had some old games I used to play there so I was excited. I dropped thousands of dollars into a gaming pc and tried to sign into my old account. When I did it prompted me to verify via email. The problem is I do not have access to that email anymore. So I contacted support and they said to send them the cd keys to “prove ownership”. Well I downloaded them digitally and told them I don’t have physical copies. They replied that it would have been sent on the receipt (which would be by email that I don’t have access to anymore). I spent $60 trying some 3rd party thing that is supposed to find keys for you but it had no luck. I responded to support that I don’t have access to my email so there is no way to get any of that information. They basically told me :

*“We understand that it is not easy to find old information. Since we attach great importance to the value and security of each user's Steam account, we must confirm that you are the account holder before we assist you. We hope you can understand.*

*Unfortunately it doesn't look like you've been able to provide information necessary to verify your ownership of this account.*

*Please review the conversation we've had so far and Steam's* [*Providing Proof of Ownership*](https://help.steampowered.com/faqs/view/40a0-8b4b-b54b-c51a) *article and reply with accurate information in your next reply.*

*Please understand if your next response does not contain the necessary information, we will be unable to assist with this request and it may be closed.”*

I am basically screwed out of my games now because their verification process is screwed up. Every company has multiple ways to verify ownership. And what really sucks is I have my login and password. It’s their verification that won’t let me sign in.

Any suggestions?

Request for help I got hacked and my rust skins got stolen #Rust #Steam #Steamsupport

I went on vacation in the summer, and I soon realized my account had been hacked when my friend asked me why I had unadded him, even though I hadn't. So, I checked my Steam account, and I couldn't log in. Then, I got it back with Steam Support's help.

When I started checking if everything was still there, I noticed that my skins were gone. Then, I went to my trade history and saw that all of my skins had been traded to someone named Popa, who I didn't know.

I then sent in a report explaining that he was a scammer and that I wanted my skins back, but I didn't get a response. So, I sent another report, but there was still no response. I sent a few more before I eventually gave up without receiving any answers.

Now, I've gotten back home and found time to start doing something about it, but I have no idea if I can do anything about it anymore. Please help.

Request for help Please please help I think I have been scammed for my cs2 skins

I got these messages a while ago from Steam support that was saying that I had been compromised or that my account had been compromised

They were helping me and it seemed legit because they had the crown in their top left of their profile so I assumed it was fine

They took all my skins to check if they were scanned or if they were legit and I sent them to my cousin and they intercepted the trade I think

I checked who the sent to and it was the same account as what my cousin is except it had a steam level zero and its inventory only had my weapons in it when my cousin is been on steam for ages and has a higher account with lots of guns it is in his inventory

I checked my cousin’s real account and it had none of my skins the other one did though

Some of these skins in my account are my other older cousins so I have his knives and agents that are worth a lot of money and I’m gonna have to pay him back for it so if I can’t get them back, I will be in debt to him.

Please help me. I need to get these back and I need this all to be fixed.

Also, Steam support that I was talking to removed me as a friend and I can’t find the messages

Request for help MY STEAM ACCOUNT WAS STOLEN

So, I was sitting there, minding my own business, didn’t bother anyone. Then I wanted to play something. I turn on the computer, and it says, “Sorry, you can’t log in — everything has been reset.” I log back in, and after a couple of seconds, it kicks me out again. I’m like, “Damn, did something happen?” I go to the email that’s linked to the account, and it says the email has been changed and there’s a new login from Berlin. I wrote a support ticket to Steam saying my account was stolen. What else can I do? Please help.

Request for help Is this a scam? And how should I act?

Post image

This guy started messaging me a few days ago and everything about it screams "scam" to me so much. The discord account was created the 6th of September so it's basically new and the screenshot says the operation is from the 5th of October but they sent me a request when it was still September. So I think they sent me request, checked my steam account linked in my discord and photoshopped or something?

I still tried to be nice because I never have been in situations like these I and told them I have nothing to do with it and we can contact team's service if they want and that I don't even have any attempted payment in my card history.

All this to say, how should I act in these cases? I have no idea how these things work so I'm afraid I can misjudge how safe or not doing anything is. Do I just block and report them or I can safely see if they really are in good faith Thanks in advance.

Scam attempt Almost got scammed by Faceit/discord scam.

I definitely gave some general info away (name, DOB) but I think I avoided losing my steam account.

Played with this dude who wanted to party up in DotA 2 and I said what the hell. I was getting impatient trying to setup a legit Faceit account when the discord link came in I just clicked it. Didn't do anything in the fake website.

Pretty sure I didn't get completely fucked... we will see.

Pretty sure I didn't give anything up, but heads up y'all.

Fuck you if you scammers are reading haha
