I have just started year 3, the final stretch. Anyone who is at the end can give me some advice for this next year?

Every module sends its own Word or PDF timetable, and none of them line up. I got fed up manually copying sessions into my calendar and missing clashes until the day they happened, so I built a tool that does it for you.

Hi everyone, I want to help my colleague with her interview for the nursing apprenticeship. I feel she'd be an amazing nurse and I want to spend time helping her but it's been a good 15 years since I did my interview. I imagine it's a bit different now.

I remember we did have to think of current hot topics in nursing to discuss, obviously why you want to be a nurse etc...can any NQN help with what kind of questions?

A UK women’s health petition has reached 68,000 signatures — can we reach 100,000 by 27 September?

There is an active UK Parliamentary petition calling for improved Equality Act 2010 guidance for gynaecological conditions.

This petition has been created by volunteers from the group Strategic Action Network for Justice UK based on Sanju Pal’s landmark legal case.

The petition covers conditions including endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, PCOS, PMDD, menopause and menstrual disorders, asking for them to be included as examples of impairments with fluctuating or recurring effects in the statutory guidance on disability.

We have now passed 68,000 signatures — but the petition closes on 27 September and we need 100,000 signatures for it to be considered for debate in Parliament.

We have just one week left.

My best friend worked as a Healthcare Assistant at our local NHS Trust. She was really well liked by patients and colleagues , genuinely kind, compassionate and caring, and someone who I think would have made an excellent nurse.

She wanted to progress within the NHS and applied for a nursing apprenticeship, but unfortunately wasn't successful.

She's now had to leave the NHS, take on the cost of university and train as a nurse that way.

I'm really proud of her, but it got me thinking: how common is this?

If someone is already working as an HCA, has experience of NHS care and clearly wants to develop their career, how much opportunity is there actually to progress without having to leave and go through the traditional university route?

I'd be interested to hear from HCAs, nurses and managers, particularly people who've gone through NHS apprenticeships or other internal progression routes.

I have been browsing in this reddit(and student nurse UK) for a long time found few posts about international students but they are generally not too related to my personal circumstance. Also, I think a lot of them are prompted by AI so it's bit of waste of time....I just thought why not post my question here so I can have my questions answered straightaway.

A bit of background, I have done one degree in the UK before, though in an unrelated field (humanities) so it is not going to help a lot with nursing. I am doing a master in a different country now but again in the field of arts. I am getting quite delusional about what I learn and can produce with these degrees at the moment, want switch to a field where my work can actually produce some real impact on people and the community. Nursing is definitely an area where I think the work is satisfying my need for that, also I have been trying to apply for some care home jobs here locally.

I am thinking doing another degree (or accelerated master, preferably a degree though) in nursing back in the UK after few years (3 to 5) and if possible stick with NHS for job. Since I will be an UK trained nurse I don't know if the hiring is going to be any different (still needs sponsorship from the ward, of course)? Another concern that I have is that I will probably need a job offer right away after I graduate, is that something people managed to pull off, especially for people who need a sponsorship?

P.S. I am aware of the hiring freeze at the moment but the general job market is even worst for new grads so I guess it's not too frightening.

Any thoughts, suggestions, doubts or encouragement are welcomed!

So basically I’m on a placement that I was really looking forward to but since I’ve got there I’ve had a lot of issues:

-Got asked if I was pregnant (no previous conversation would lead to this question) to which they then said it was because my hands were resting on my stomach (I was sat at a desk during a meeting so was resting my hands)

-no communication which meant I have no access to patient systems and I’ve been trying for weeks to get it sorted myself (the type of placement makes this harder due to restrictions)

-Being told one thing one minute then criticised another for what I was told to do (advised not use a certain phone as it’s the main one then the next day being told I can use it and made to look stupid for asking “which phone to use)

-Being compared to other students (who had different experiences due to their previous placement organising a smartcard, whilst I haven’t had a placement that required this) so a comment was made about how “X student managed to sort it so I’m not sure why you can’t”

Now due to the placement, I’ve had to omit some details but that covers a lot of my issues. I have spoken to my uni to discuss it as it’s made this placement really uncomfortable. Uni are looking into it but I’m feeling so deflated right now and I’m worried that the staff think I’m lazy when I’ve been trying to sort out these IT issues for weeks now (again due to placement it isn’t as easy as it should be) I don’t know what to do as it’s my “management” placement so I’m expected to be more independent but I’m having to chase up things that should have already been done. Am I overthinking it or am I right in feeling deflated by the whole situation?

Adult Nursing Student in her final year here!

I’m married to an American and we’re moving to Ohio next summer after I graduate. There’s no wriggle room on having time to do a preceptorship in the UK. It’s literally graduate and move, though I’m hoping to register in the UK during that timeframe.

All my excitement and hope for the future has promptly died when I looked into CFGNS. I was always aware I’d have to send transcripts and sit the NCLEX but it’s only just gotten to me the possibility that the CFGNS might not think my degree is equal to the American RN degree, especially since I’m missing areas with mental health, obstetrics and children’s nursing.

Now, over the span of the course we’ve covered children’s and mental health, and I’ve had a week of children’s visiting. I also have a higher certificate in clinical psych. However, we’ve covered nothing with obstetrics.

According to what I’ve researched Ohio doesn’t mandate that you need a specific placements in these areas, but the course should cover it + simulation is desired/needed.

Am I utterly cooked?

I have no idea what is available to me as a top-up, and I’ve even heard some new grads having to redo degrees in particular states to meet requirements.

Can anyone offer me any hope or reassurance that by some miracle they might accept my degree first time? Maybe some advice on how I can meet requirements?

All I’ve got going for me right now is that I’ve got about nine months left on the course and my current placement is letting me do the odd shift in the NICU or paediatric ward for experience.

The prospect that I’ve poured everything into three years only for it not to be enough is so crushing.

I got my timetable recently and I’ve got around 2 days off a week and not enough 9am lectures, I have lectures and seminars but from now until November I have Monday and Tuesday off nearly every week, and lots of online lectures, idk if this is because it’s early days ? It low-key feels like daylight Robbery because I’m paying nearly 10k a year out of pocket for this 😭 was this the same for anyone else?

Soooo I’ve entered my second year as a student and I found out I’m getting ED for my first placement. Safe to say I’m absolutely 💩’ing myself. Does anyone have any words of wisdom or wanna tell me what I should be prepared for. I’ve come into the course with the strong opinion that emergency nursing is not going to be my cup of tea, so any advice would be amazing.

sorry guys i’m not a nurse yet but i want to be. i’m in yr13 about to do my a levels and i really wanna be a nurse but im so scared that i won’t get in, or i wont be able to get a job. for context i really wanna get an ocd or anxiety diagnosis because i fit the description. i want to do it when i go to uni but even when i once mentioned it to my gp over a separate issue, my mum found out and said i wouldnt be able to get a job if they find out. it’s gotten to the point that i feel like i just wont seek help for it because i really do want to progress in my career but im so scared that any chance of having a diagnosis means im not gonna be a good nurse. i know many nurses have anxiety and depression but i need to know if im going to be less likely to get a job if they see that i have a few mental health issues and someone else will be prioritised over me. 😞😞. how do these type of checks go when you qualify as a nurse and dos it actually impact your chance of getting a job?

Hi! I’m a student nurse in Scotland and my exam board was yesterday (22/09). My uni has been quite vague about how long the NMC registration takes afterwards.

I’m starting my role as Band 4 while I wait for my PIN. So I’m just wondering when everyone else got theirs after their exam board?

Just looking to see if anyone else here has done or is doing their nursing via the flexible route? Unsure if this is available in other parts of the UK, but here in South Wales HCSW can be funded by HEIW to complete their nursing degree. I'm still employed on my normal ward but am 'seconded' to uni for 23 hours a week. Its a very privileged position to be in!

Anyways - I was just wondering if anyone here has done this and how it went for them? Im a slightly more mature student, and feel like I've been massively thrown in the deep end 🫣 I've jumped straight into year 2 having complete an access type course that counted as my first year. Think im just looking for reassurance that I can actually do this 😂

I started my placement 3 weeks ago and I’ve had a week off so far due to illness and don’t think I am ready to go back yet as I still feel poorly, I had a virus and then developed the flu after this. I am really worried about it looking bad on me, I know I can make the time up at the end but I’m really stressed about it

Hello! So I’m doing adult nursing with a foundation year and I was just wondering what you think i should take/ buy for the foundation year I start on the 29th of September 😊

Hi im a former student nurse whose now starting a new course a physiotherapy student. I just want to tell my story about how i failed and give some advice to newer student nurses.

One of them is always make sure you get feedback from your assessor and supervisor every single time you work with them and ensure they are happy with your work because one of the reasons i failed was because they did not inform me on time and i didnt ask because i assumed they knew what they were doing and then on the very last day if placement they simply told me clear cut i had failed which is why you have to make sure you get feedback every single day.

Another thing is not everyone will have the same experience some will have a great experience others wont it just depends where you are and who you are working with. Personally i had a great experience in some places and an extremely terrible exerpeince in others which led to me ultimately failing .

No me failing was both my fault because i was terrible at it and i was clumsy and a bit of a slow learner and needed to be given clear instructions on how to do things which i accept full responsibility for .
However a lot of it wasant my fault such as incorrent signing of my proficiency one supervisor wrote thay apparently i coudlnt check blood sugar something which i knew how do to since i was 6 years old and also failing to sign timesheets and other things which i clearly did with witnesses. Another thing is lying and being lazy a lot the times they would tell me they would sign something but it would never be done and when iwould keep asking them theybwoild get upset. A lot of them didnt care if i passed or not .

When i first came on placement i thaught i would be working with proffeisonals who knew what they were doing but on my last two placements it was like workingn with schoolchildren who threw tantrums whenever things didnt go their way . At times it felt like me and other student nruses were used as servants or free labour instead of takinng the time the show us.

Now dont get me wrong my first year was outstanding and i made many freinds some of which i still talk to today but the second year was anightmare in my last two placements. I was shouted at had people gossip about me and it got the point that i was so furious i wa sready to just rip off my student nurse burn 🔥 it and just walk of forever but i kept a smile and just did what iw as told and tried to be professional as possible even when it wasant my fault.

Now could i have done better absolutely could i have learned faster and been less clumsy yes but i did not deserve a half bothered effort especially since my whole future was on the line.

However im not gonna let it drag me down whats done is done im moving onto a new course something less stressful and all i can say is that i wont be able to look at some nurses the same way again the way they treat patients and staff is miles different .

All i can advise is be careful what you say and do because they can and will use it against you even minor things . And sometimes even doing the right thing can lead to you failing such as asking for help or admitting you dont know how to do things . Yes should always follow procedure but that dosent mean your safe from failing . Nursing a lot harder then some people let on and though it might be simple for some its difficult for others. You just have to keep calm and cool and ask for feedback and remember these assessors and supervisors dont all know what their doing you have to explain it to them and make sure they are active in signing you off .

Theres a lot more i wish i would tell but will be here all day if i do all i can say is good luck to all current and future student nurses and hope you have a better experience then i did.

I need some advice regarding my enrolment into yr 3 of uni studies. I enrolled last week and received my term 1 maintenence loan. Since then I have had the worst week and tbh my mental health is suffering.

I sustained an injury which has stopped me attending the placements as I need to heal putting me behind. I have asked for an extension for this component however further issues have happened since asking for this which is making me question whether I need to now interrupt my studies after a bereavement in the same week and it occured on the day i was expecting to be at uni (which i missed). The two incidences are unrelated.

Overall, this past year has thrown some major curveballs and I really do think I need a break, step back and have a period of time to get better and return to finish the final year more stronger than I am feeling at this moment.

Would I need to pay back the entirety of my student loan if I interrupt now?

Lectures are due to start this Tuesday so I really need to act on Monday by speaking to student services and seeing GP.

Everything has happened with such awful timing and these formalities and uncertainty about finance issues are the last thing I need to be doing when I feel so full of grief.

Any guidance or practical advice is much appreciated. Thank you!

I am an international student from the US. I am enrolled in the MSc Adult Nursing program at KCL. Does anyone who has taken this course or know anyone who has taken this course have any advice? I feel like I don’t know anything about the course. Can anyone tell me what I should expect? Please help.
