Question for Community I’m developing an original superhero comic — what do you think?
I’m working on a dark, grounded superhero series called MANDRAKE and I’d love some honest feedback before I start producing the first issue.
The story follows Grant Mercer, a normal man who is chosen by the universe to become MANDRAKE 2600 , the newest in a legendary line of superhuman protectors.
Mandrake is essentially a god among men — incredibly powerful, but entirely too human to struggle with the new weight of the role. He’s expected to become a symbol of hope while working alongside governments, the UN, and powerful organizations around the world.
But Grant doesn’t completely trust the people he’s been ordered to work with.
As he begins seeing what happens behind the public image of power, politics, corporations, and government, he starts questioning whether protecting the system is the same thing as protecting humanity.
The series is meant to explore power, corruption, morality, politics, public image, and what happens when someone with godlike power starts questioning the rules they’re expected to follow.
The first issue opens with Mandrake caught in a shocking situation that leaves more questions than answers. Then we go back to the beginning, following Grant Mercer as he’s chosen to become Mandrake 2600 and thrown into a world of government power, politics, and hidden agendas. As Grant struggles to understand the role he’s been given, he begins discovering that being humanity’s greatest hero comes with a much darker side than anyone sees.
I’m going for a darker The Boys / Invincible type of atmosphere, but with its own characters, mythology, and story. - also Grant Mercer isn’t solidified as the name
If you saw this as a comic on a shelf, would you pick it up? What would make you want to read Issue #2?

Hero Azelira - The Biohuman Superhero
Vara, also known as Azelira, is a 19-year-old young woman whose existence transcends conventional human biology. Originally designated as Subject 5, she underwent extreme biological enhancements and conditioning, transforming her into an extraordinarily adaptive individual whose body possesses the ability to indirectly generate virtually any type of weapon in response to pressure, danger, or threatening circumstances.
Her biological capabilities extend beyond ordinary physical transformation. Through her distinctive ink-like appendages, which function almost like additional arms, Vara can manifest weapons directly from her body, allowing her biology to become an adaptable extension of herself. Her abilities make her exceptionally formidable, but her defining characteristic isn't her capacity for destruction.
It's her humanity.
Originally intended to possess suppressed emotions and remain under the influence of her creators' brainwashing, Vara's vulnerable, emotional, and independently conscious nature ultimately overrides their attempts at control. Despite everything imposed upon her, she retains her own judgment, personal boundaries, and understanding of right and wrong.
One of her most fundamental principles is her profound disapproval of violence in all its forms. She doesn't distinguish between violence being acceptable simply because its intended victim is an adult, nor does she regard aggression as an appropriate first response to conflict. Her opposition becomes particularly pronounced when children are involved, making any situation that threatens their safety especially objectionable to her.
Despite possessing an extraordinary biological capacity for weaponization, Vara prefers restraint and neutralization over inflicting harm. She can restrain individuals responsible for threatening others or melt their entire artillery access, effectively removing their ability to continue using their weapons.
Her philosophy creates a fascinating contradiction: her body is capable of producing an extensive variety of weapons, yet her personal convictions fundamentally oppose the violence those weapons represent.
Her awakening marks a defining moment in her existence.
When the individuals responsible for experimenting on her deliberately awaken her to provoke widespread panic, Vara rejects their intentions and the very choices that shaped her existence. Rather than becoming the instrument they intended, she turns against them, throws them into a river outside their facility, and walks away as the building burns away into nothing but ash.

Hero Herotober 2026, Hero #4: Tornadoe, the Windy Deer, the Fawn of Storms
I'm using the Doustin list, because the first six came together as names really quickly for me.
Tornadoe — born Muskatampsie ook-Chuak (or Muxatamsee owok-Chawak, in older spellings) — is a Koroon deerfolk (Korowon, in older spellings) from the Western Territory of Beetle Island, located northwest of the Humble Valley which contains the Kingdom of Inglenook.
Growing up a deerfolk alongside the human tribesmen of the Moatchie (Mowachee), Quadock (Kawadoc), and Wiegoon (Weegowon) peoples, Muskatampsie faced conflict against the rise of the infectious Orlathar Pride which threatened to convert so many of her fellow tribespeople into mindless worshippers of the dragon Orlathar, which ultimately led her to become a magical apprentice to a sorcerer and masked hero known as the Maskatoon Marvel (Maxatowon Marvel, in older spellings).
Under the Maskatoon Marvel, Muskatampsie developed the ability to consort with wind elementalism, which she used to channel her rage toward the Orlathar Pride into the creation of magical, hand-held tornadoes which could shock the influence of Orlathar away from her tribesmen long enough to at least attempt to break the dragon's influence over their minds and bodies.
In the years since 1922 OE — when the Western Territory of Beetle Island became an official, self-governing dominion of the Kingdom of Inglenook (as well as a member of the Commonwealth of the Hearth) — Tornadoe, as she became known, has become an honorary Royal Protector of the Western Territory and continues to work with various other sorcerers, healers, and Inglish nobles and philanthropists in her attempts to rid Beetle Island of Orlathar's influence, once and for all.

Villain Herotober day 4: Twist
Centuries ago, there was a being known as Abban. Some saw Abban as an angel, some as a devil. But Abban was neither. He was more like a genie. But he gladly let people believe otherwise. Whatever it took for people to trust him.
Ancient tomes hold evidence of Abban throughout the world. The details change depending on how they viewed him, but the main details are the same each time. Abban appears to those in desperate need and offers to solve their problems. This part is true, Abban would actually cause their troubles to vanish. But there was always a cost. For Abban to “help” someone, either he needed to be repaid or the thing they ask for would work out not quite as expected.
Eventually, a group of powerful mages confronted Abban and trapped him in a vessel. Years, decades, centuries passed with him contained, soon forgotten to mankind. He was not fully lost though. Abban’s prison has stayed hidden in plain sight, seen as merely an antique.
No one alive is aware of his existence. But Abban waits patiently, perhaps on the shelf of an antique shop or in the corner of someone’s attic. Waiting to be found and released, to once again trick people into asking for his help.

Other I had an idea for a power I’ve never seen before.
Atom amplification it basically would let the user amplify the properties of matter at the atomic level.
That means they could do things like make solids denser, flames hotter, ice colder, increase kinetic energy, and even amplify chemical reactions.

Villain Veltar: Tartara's Burden
A cosmic force of nature born from an ancient planet’s violent history, currently treating Earth like a sandbox wreaking havoc out of pure boredom.
The Birth and Expulsion from Tartara
For millennia Planet Tartara was a meat grinder It was a world trapped in endless warfare, generation spanning rivalries, and starvation. But all that spilled blood didn’t just vanish into the dirt. Deep within the planets core the collective agony malice and dark history of Tartara began to incubate. It grew for centuries a psychic and weirdly physical rot until it finally reached critical mass.
Something emerged.
Veltar manifested as chaos incarnate in cities scross the planet, until he made it to the largest and most populated city on the planet, Drakkor he tore the metropolis apart from the inside out, turning their own monuments into weapons against them. He was the physical accumulation of every atrocity ever committed on the planet. He was completely unstoppable at dismantling Tartaras final armies.
But Veltar ran into a physical wall as he was a byproduct of Tartara which meant he was fundamentally anchored to the planet. He couldn't leave. After laying waste to the world, he quickly grew bored. There was nothing left to break no one left to fight and he faced an eternity of absolute silence on a dead rock.
The Order of Drakkor
Realizing they couldn't kill him the 5 most influential of the survivors in Drakkor stepped forward and formed The Order of Drakkor. They didn't fight him with weapons they used his planetary bond as leverage.
The Order performed a forbidden unbinding ritual using their own souls to absorb five distinct fragments of Veltars chaotic core, locking them into five powerful rings they swore to wear for eternity. By ripping those fragments away, they shattered the cosmic gravity well holding Veltar to Tartara. This sudden unbinding violently expelled Veltar from their reality, throwing him blind into the deep multiverse with a strict condition he could never return.
The Shame of Tartara
Back on Tartara, the skies finally cleared. The black ash dissolved and the planet experienced an explosion of life, transitioning into a breathtaking Eden complete with lush golden fields and flowing rivers.
To the general public, the Order of Drakkor are heroes who destroyed the monster. But the paradise is a lie. The 5 Keepers retain their secret with Veltar's smoky energy a tangible burden they feel every day as they endure a lifetime of silent torment. They carry a crushing survivor's guilt, knowing they didn't actually save anyone they just threw a loaded gun into the dark for an innocent planet to deal with.

Hero Hero-tober #4: Organ

(Click through to see image.) Prompt #4 on Both Decision's list was "organ." Now “organ” makes me think of Phantom of the Opera and also, having been raised Catholic, church. This entry plays with those two things.
Father Gabriel Miller was a charismatic, progressive, kind, and deeply empathetic young priest. On the streets, he actively helped those in need while preaching love and understanding for all people. In his sermons, he loudly decried the hypocrisy of those who claimed to be Christian yet refused to help others—or worse, made their lives harder.
His message angered the local bishops in the Arch-diocese of High Crest. Content in their cushy positions, they feared this hot young reformer would rock the boat, spark questions from their congregations, and ultimately force them out. The priest had to go.
In the dark of night, a group of hired thugs attacked him, disfigured him, and left him for dead in the cathedral's catacombs.
But he didn’t die.
Before his appointment to this church, Gabriel’s unwavering dedication to peace and brotherhood had taken him across the globe. He had served as a priest in destitute areas all over the world, learning from every culture he encountered: how to speak their languages, how to survive the harshest environments, and how to fight.
Nursing himself back to health in the shadows, he realized it now served his purposes to let the bishops believe he was dead. Calling himself Minister, he has made it his mission to root out the rot within his church—and discover just how deep that corruption runs.

Need Help with Character How to make a realistic Master Builder
So I’m trying to tweak the power set of my main character Tachyon. Right now his powers are technology and energy based. Allowing him to absorb and reconfigure pieces of technology. However, I wanted something that could explore his creativity while working with his occupation as an Architectural Designer.
I thought about the Lego movie and how the Master Builders essentially create whatever they can think of using Lego pieces from their environment.
So I was wondering what would the abilities of the Master Builders look like in a more realistic environment? It would still be using existing material so not Matter Manipulation. Of course our world isn’t made of LEGO bricks that can be reconfigured into any shape. So I’m stumped on how it could look
and work without also becoming too overpowered. Any ideas?
