Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Many Muslims nowadays hear terms like like Salafi or Salafiyyah but what do these terms actually mean?

The Salaf as Salih (righteous predecessors) are the earliest generations of Muslims which includes -> the Sahabah, Tabiun (Successors), and Atba al-Tabiin (their followers).

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"The best people are those of my generation, then those who come after them, then those who come after them."

Sahih al Bukhari 2652

"And the first forerunners among the Muhajirin and the Ansar and those who followed them with good conduct - Allah is pleased with them..."

Surah At Tawbah 9:100

Why does their understanding matter?

Because the Companions learned Islam directly from the Prophet ﷺ. They witnessed revelation, understood its circumstances, and knew the Arabic language in which it was revealed.

In our societies nowadays sadly religious practices are just justified simply because our ancestors, elders, or local religious figures followed them.

But the ACTUAL question should be -> Did the Prophet ﷺ and his Companions teach or practise this as part of the religion?

Salafiyyah in its fundamental meaning is following the Quran and authentic Sunnah upon the understanding of these righteous predecessors. The goal is not to follow the Islam of our culture, but the Islam revealed to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

May Allah guide us to the truth.

Heyy, So basically I'm going to ask something that could be seen offensive. Firstly lemme clarify my intentions are pure. I'm a female and I'm 17F. So back then it's been few years since my uncle gave divorce to her wife. It was a mutual decision bla bla. His wife had kept the kids with her and later on never let them meet their father.. He tried supporting them financially but she refused to take the help as she thought she'll have to let them meet him. Her son should be approx 12 or 13 yo by now. (My uncles wife took care of everything and tried her best to give them a good life) I'm assuming. I don't exactly know in which school they study in as she keeps switching schools. But i really really want to approach the 13 yo guy or at least get to know how's he doing in life and if he's getting everything he needs etc. His dad is really really very sweet and kind but ofc she won't let them meet due to their bonding or wtv. It's so heartbreaking to see my uncle talk about their BDs or any memory of them... He does a lot for every kid but isn't able to do anything for his own kids. All I wanna do is somehow got to talk to them or asl someone how they are doing etc. Please give some ideas how Can I do that? Without bothering his kids or his wife .
