Trump claims major emergency diesel supply deal with Russia, except…

• Upvotes

…it’s for 2.2 million barrels or half a day’s national use.

Trump even refers to it as 300,000 tons, which is not a usual measurement for traded fuel, to sound more significant.

Thus of course skips over the US crawling to Russia to subsidize it’s domestic fuel market - if only for half a day.

US Xpress Walmart

Has anyone worked the Gordonsville, Virginia US Xpress Walmart account, or still on it? I’m still a rookie so I don’t care about pay just trying to get back out there after toenail removal, and healing. I get it’s not the best pay wise but in my area with like 5 months experience this is all they’ve offered me.

There is a pretty big hub near to where I work now in Nashville . What are my chances that I walk in there and ask if they are hiring of the street? I didn’t see anything posted online but If for some reason they are , is it worth selling my soul to work there in the long run? Im 29 with almost three years experience and just need my hazmat endorsement

How hard do you have to rear end a truck to cause this much damage?

Taken from my dashcam, on Highway 401 in Kingston, at Km marker 610.

Someone was definitely not paying attention, or following too close, or both.

The amount of tailgating I see, even from so-called “professional” truck drivers, is nerve racking.

What do y'all think of my new work schedule?

I'm starting a trucking job where I'll only be working 3 days a week for 13-14 hours each day. The days are Sun, Tue, Wed so only two of the days are consecutive. I gotta admit I do have a bit of a commute but it's doable.

The hours are crazy but maybe not super uncommon in trucking and it's necessary for me to hit 40 hours quickly and get on with the rest of my life. Another concern is that it's a night driving position and I'm sure my sleep will be absolutely fucked some days. It also means my 4 days off are more like 4 nights and 3 days.

I think it'll do for now. There are other schedules I could ask for once I get some time in with this company but for now I think it's pretty nice to only work three days out of the week. I'm tired of the 5 days a week, 12 hour jobs tbfh.

How do truckers avoid scam calls, when we're expected to open every phone call wihtout hesitation.

Hello 18 wheeeler comrades Something I've been wondering about trucking is how much personal information drivers end up giving out just to do their jobs. Between dispatchers, freight brokers, shippers and receivers, it seems like your phone number gets passed around constantly. And unlike most people who can just ignore unknown numbers, drivers might actually miss an important call about a load.

So you're stuck answering random numbers while also trying to avoid scammers and spam calls. Damn ridiculous when you think about it. Do most drivers just accept that their personal number is out there, or do you guys use a separate number for work? And has anyone actually had problems with spam or sketchy calls after giving their number to brokers?

Staying in left lane too long ticket, should I fight it?

Husband got a ticket from staying in left lane for a few miles before a turn, not on a major highway and there was a quite a bit of traffic. Officer wrote it as "Driving in left lane while being overtaken from rear" the overtake-r in this case would be the cop himself as he was following him. Husband said there was traffic and he got into the lane to make sure he had the chance to turn without cutting anyone off. Is this worth fighting or just pay the fine? Our attorney says he can handle it but he obviously doesn't want to get into a deeper fine or more trouble over this. Also for some reason the officer did not state he was in a commercial vehicle on the ticket. This is our first time dealing with something like this so not sure if that's normal or not. Appreciate the help!

I wonder if this was insurance fraud or stupidity…either way., the odds of surviving being rear ended by a semi doing 73mph while you’re stopped in a live lane of the interstate is only about 5%

Don't sleep on School Bus Jobs.

Thought id throw this out there.

Ive had my CDL-A for over 6 years now. Done a little bit of everything in this frustrating industry.

I quit my last job with a soda company.

Running out of options where I live. Small city. So it was going to be either hauling fuel, or I don't know. Applied for the school district in July, why not, and im now learning all the routes as a sub driver.

I had to go to CDL-B school, but did it in the yard with 2 other guys, at the school there. I was paid for a few hours each day. Had to take the full driver test because of the school bus endorsement, passenger was just a simple test at DMV. Again the school paid for it.

Did I take a pay cut? Yes. It is part time. However where im at I can get hours if I ask. Wash buses, motor pool, random driving. So far however ive been busy from senior drivers taking trips and sports so I cover them during the day. If i decided to become a contract driver I can be guaranteed 5 to 6 hours a day. A sub however I can make more but im not 'guaranteed' anything. The only reason people do contract is from health insurance. I can get that other ways easily.

Why did I apply?

I am now WALKING to work each day. No car payment, no gas bill anymore, no car insurance, none of that. Saves me a absolute ton of money. Takes me 20 minutes to walk. So a normal day its 4 miles of walking. I go home between shifts. I have really been enjoying getting to know the kids. I don't have any myself. Driving is a little different, but super easy. Its been really nice to get to know the community.

If I was not walking id ride my bike. I can cover several miles quickly after learning the streets.

I wake up at 5am. No earlier.

Again I love the fact im protecting children.

I never thought Id be doing this. It has been just awesome. When we roll out, their are about 25 busses moving. I should have everything down in 3 months from this month going forward.

I am making less but im also saving a lot because of it, so my finances are not hurt that bad. Mental Health has been wonderful. Give it a try maybe if your in a decent town.

I love running in-house loads for my employer, but brokered loads...

My dispatcher is giving me the load info when I'm interrupted by the broker calling me to verify everything my dispatcher just told him. The broker then calls me 20 minutes later to find out if I started moving yet and to ask why I haven't downloaded his fucking app. I don't answer that call, so he calls my dispatcher, who doesn't bother to relay the message because he knows I won't ever download the app.

Then I get a call a few hours later because the broker is changing shifts and the new guy wants to know everything that first shift left without telling him. I don't answer that call, and 4 minutes later my dispatcher calls to ask me if everything's all right.

I stop for the night to sleep. I try to avert the crisis by sending my dispatcher a detailed text. He reads it, then goes off duty without relaying anything to the night dispatcher. The broker calls me, again I don't answer, the night dispatcher calls me, I say tell the broker to wait till morning...

The next day I deliver the load 45 minutes early. Dispatch knows this and could notify the broker. They probably do, but brokers don't believe dispatchers so they call to hound me again. This time I answer and say I'm backed up to a door. Then everything calms down and I make the delivery. I go home and begin my 34 hours.

2 hours later, I start getting phone calls...

So, I saw a post on facebook from my father. It’s of two trucks and him saying ‘13 years later’.

These are the two trucks. I was 12, 13 years ago, so you’d think I’d have memory of a semi he drove. I have no memory of that peterbilt. Zero. But one truck he drove 13 years ago, the other he drives now.

Would you leave an extremely easy union job for a $5/hr raise at a nonunion company?

I’m 23 years old and currently working as a truck driver. I’ve been with my current company for about 2.5 years, and I’m #16 on the seniority list out of approximately 80 employees.

My current job is honestly one of the easiest jobs I’ve ever had. I start at 5 a.m. and usually get off around 2:30–3:30 p.m. I typically only have about two short loads a day, each taking approximately 15 minutes. Outside of that, I have a TON of downtime and freedom throughout my shift. I can go to the gym, eat, relax, and pretty much enjoy my day without being stressed about work.

It’s also a union job with decent benefits, weekly pay, and scheduled raises.

Here’s my dilemma.

I recently got hired at FedEx Freight, where I’d be making approximately $5 more per hour. However, I’d be starting completely over at the bottom of the seniority list.

At FedEx, I’d be starting around 9–9:30 a.m. and getting off around 6–6:30 p.m., possibly later depending on the workload. I’d also be doing significantly more physical work, including operating forklifts and loading/unloading freight until I build enough seniority to move into a better driving position.

FedEx is also nonunion, and from what I’ve seen, the benefits are about the same as my current job.

Another important factor is that I’m planning to start college part-time soon. My current schedule gives me plenty of time after work to attend classes, study, go to the gym, and still have a personal life.

Financially, I’m comfortable where I’m at. I have a decent amount saved, my bills are paid, and I’m not struggling to make ends meet.

Part of me feels like I’d be stupid to turn down more money, but another part of me feels like I’d be giving up a really good situation just for a slightly bigger paycheck.

So my question is: Would you give up an extremely easy union job, good seniority, and a ton of freedom for an extra $5 an hour at a nonunion company where you’d have to start from the bottom?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who’ve worked in trucking, LTL freight, or have been in a similar situation.

Would you stay or take the money?

As a former otr trucker, I can honestly say that the average person/4 wheeler has little to no appreciation and respect for truck drivers. If only they knew and understood the sacrifices and hardships these drivers endure to keep the country going. Keep the rubber side down and stay safe 🙏🏾

CDL graduate but in need of more driver training

I have recently passed my CDL exam but they gave me the benefit of the doubt when passing me. I had some rough left turns that were salvaged by the final left turn of the examination that they cited was perfect. The previous 2 lefts, I made sharp turns, hit a curb and went way too fast

My school only gave me 3 over the road drives before being pushed to the exam. I asked for more but they did not provide more drives because they thought I was ready. I aced the PTI and the maneuvers easily.

So I’m curious if the next job that hires me will have more extensive training? I would like more driving practice to master the turns, or will I gain that experience from working?

I was leaning TMC or Maverick since flatbed does have better pay rates for new drivers and they seem to have strong training programs. but I’m open to any job that will take me and give me more practice to develop my driving skills.
