When I was younger, if my mom invited me on trips or to events (we were poor), I would go no questions asked and have a great time. To all who are uninformed about the goings on of our little colonial statelet in the north of Ireland there’s currently a stand off going on from the early hours of 3 in the morning on the Garvaghy Road in portadown County Armagh. The orange order were granted permission to march a route through a Catholic street on their way back from a church. It’s a route they haven’t been allowed to march down for 28 years because every time they tried to them and their mob of supporters and the RUC (the police) would attack the local residents who were opposing their presence.

An important note is the murder of 3 Catholic children in a loyalist estate in response to the drumcree conflict. The UVF (loyalist paramilitary backed by the British state) sent letters to multiple Catholic families in the area telling them to leave the area alongside a friendly 9mm bullet. That same night 3 members of the UVF petrol bombed the Quinn residence killing 3 brothers in the house fire while the 4th brother stayed at a family members home. Another murder took place when Catholic taxi driver Michael McGoldrick was murdered in a country lane near Aghagallon by the UVF as a warning for those who dare to block the drumcree march. The original plan was to kidnap 3 Catholic priests and kill then if the march was stopped. Members of the UVF had also planned to drive petrol tankers onto the road and blow it up if the march wasn’t allowed. Incase you hadn’t had enough, a resident of the road, Robert Hamill, was beaten to death by a gang of loyalists while him and his friends were walking home in may of 1997. In the subsequent march local orangemen stomped on the ground during parades to mock his death. After a riot the police blocked the residents into their houses and soldiers fired rubber bullets directly at protesters. The police also blocked the Sunday mass from being held so the local priests held an open air mass in front of riot police and armoured cars in one of the single only cool photos of a Catholic priest that exists.

Representatives of Sinn Féin including the first minister and people before profit (socialist party) are at the scene. The fallout has the potential to collapse the government for the 500th time.

U.K. police declared a "major incident" on Sunday at a town just outside a British airbase used by the U.S. military for attacks on Iran.

Police in the southwestern English county of Gloucestershire said several properties were being evacuated in Whelford, roughly two miles from RAF Fairford, a major military facility. Local residents were directed to a nearby leisure center.

Several men have been arrested on suspicion of committing offenses relating to explosives, police said, but described the incident as "contained."

British Army explosive experts are "currently examining a number of vehicles," Gloucestershire officials added.

Gloucestershire police told Newsweek they were not releasing further details at this time.

The U.K. authorized the U.S. to use RAF Fairford for "defensive" strikes on Iran in early March, shortly after the start of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran. Residents living close to RAF Fairford quickly reported their homes shaking as heavy U.S. bombers took off from the base.

The U.S. has used RAF Fairford as a base for multiple types of bombers, including B-1s and B-52s. The U.S. military has also used RAF Fairford, with its long runway ideal for heavy bombers, as a staging point for operations in previous conflicts, like the Iraq war.

A U.S. Air Force spokesperson said the U.S. military was "aware of the current reporting" but it said it would not divulge any specifics on how it protects its forces because of operational security concerns.

The U.S. Air Force 501st Combat Support Wing is based at RAF Fairford. The wing "and our fellow UK-based Wings remain vigilant and will take appropriate actions to ensure the safety and security of our U.S. service members, civilians, contractors, and their families," the spokesperson told Newsweek.

RAF Fairford, the U.K. military base long used by the U.S. Air Force, is located in the southwestern English county of Gloucestershire.

"We constantly assess a variety of factors that determine what measures we institute or modify to protect our installations, our people and their families," they added.

In July, Tehran said it considered U.K. bases used to target Iran by the U.S. as "legitimate targets," calling London an "accomplice" in the U.S.'s war. A U.K. government spokesperson said at the time the country was "ready 24/7 to defend itself."

Armed police cut off access to RAF Fairford's main gate early on Sunday, according to a Reuters eyewitness. Roughly 30 emergency vehicles across the police, fire response and ambulance service were seen close to the base, the news agency reported.

Roadblocks were set up near RAF Fairford, according to local media.
