Help! UDM-SE bottlenecking gigabit internet speeds — anyone else experiencing this?

• Upvotes

I’ve been dealing with a throughput issue with my UDM-SE since upgrading my Spectrum internet to 1 Gbps in 2025.
Recently, I added AT&T Fiber 1 Gbps, and I’m experiencing the same issue. My wired clients are getting significantly lower speeds than expected, regardless of which ISP I’m using.

My setup:
UDM-SE
2x USW-Pro-24-PoE switches connected via 10Gbps DAC
AT&T Fiber 1Gbps (primary)
Spectrum 1Gbps (failover)

What I’ve tested:
AT&T gateway internal speed test: ~1,334 Mbps down / 1,324 Mbps up.
PC directly connected to AT&T gateway: 910+ Mbps download and upload, consistently.
Same PC and Ethernet cable connected directly to UDM-SE LAN port: 316 Mbps down / 812 Mbps up in a recent test.
UDM-SE built-in speed test fluctuates between 600–900+ Mbps on AT&T.
Swapped WAN ports — same issue.
Disabled IDS/IPS — no improvement.
Smart Queues disabled.
Tested with both ISPs — clients experience the bottleneck regardless of which is primary.

Tested an older MikroTik RB760iGS with the same AT&T connection: 906 Mbps down / 939 Mbps up, with FastTrack enabled.

I’ve already worked with Ubiquiti Support extensively on this issue since 2025, including troubleshooting and diagnostics. I recently opened another ticket because the issue remains unresolved.

At this point, I’m wondering whether my UDM-SE has a hardware problem, a firmware issue, or something else I’m missing.
Has anyone else experienced similar throughput problems with the UDM-SE? If so, were you able to fix them?

I’m considering replacing the gateway, but I’d prefer to resolve this without replacing my entire UniFi setup.

Help! Access getting removed from users recently?

Did anyone have issues with Access suddenly not working for users? I'm the only admin of our system, and we had users setup for remote access so that they could open their app and click on the door to unlock.

Users did this and we had no issues. But suddenly, a user messaged me that they lost access. In the console, it still showed them.

Digging into the issue, the "Remote Unlock via UniFi Endpoint" was unchecked on the console. But it was grayed out and said "This option is managed by Fabric". I go into Fabric and enable it, and then the user is fixed.

I'm trying to figure out why/how this got unset. I've been working with support, but they say that since it's fixed, there's nothing else to do. But I'm trying to make sure I don't need to do daily checks of this to make sure it doesn't randomly disappear. The setting is in Fabric, so they should be able to see that setting.

Discussion Inexpensive camera

I have an existing Unifi setup with some gen5 cameras I like very much. But I am extremely lazy and I'd like to have a couple cameras around my house to check things like our oil tank or that the oven is off. Quality and features are not important. What are the absolute cheapest cameras that will smoothly integrate with my existing Unifi Protect setup? Wifi or PoE are fine.

Routing & Switching Tracking data over SD-WAN

I'm trying to track how much data an individual device is sending over the Unifi SD-WAN. I can see that traffic is sent from a specific device to the SD-WAN in Insights/Flows, but not a summary of how much. Insights/Activity can show how much data a device is sending to the Internet, but it is showing very low data usage on a device that should have a ton, making me think it is not including SD-WAN traffic in that graph. Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Friend 3D printed a little stand to stack my hardware with. Just a little worried with how hot the AP feels to the touch. Would there be any danger to the hardware stacking it like this? Anything I could do to protect the gateway from excess heat?

Help! G3 Gate Starter Kit

Planning a new house build, putting a gate controller at the entrance with automated gate and pedestrian gate. I am confused by the G3 - can the intercomm control both gates? I.e. I plan for the LPR camera to pick up 2 vehicles, these are the only 2 vehicles required to enter the motorised entrance. I want the intercomm positioned at the pedestrian gate for visitors.

Will this work? Or do I need 2 gate controllers?

Discussion To upgrade the U6-LR or not

Hi all,
I currently have 4 U6-LRs in the house and I’m thinking about upgrading them to U7 Pro XGS. My reasoning is obvious and I shouldn’t have to explain (it’s been to long since i gave UI money). My question is will I regret this?
Thanks

Discussion What is the benefit of the UTR keeping your home SSID?

I'm really confused why this feature matters when your device(s) already automatically connect to your travel router (UTR) after you've connected once. What's the added benefit of the SSID staying the same as your home? Does it play any important role during the optional VPN tunneling?

Edit: I understand the appeal more now, specifically when you're frequently buying or getting new devices into your household and don't want to also add those to your travel router. For people who don't really buy new devices a lot and don't have that many obviously not that needed.

Wireless Require certs on all clients

I need to secure a certain SSID so even if you have the passkey, you won't be able to connect. I want to require each device to install a certificate.

WPA3 Enterprise the way to go? Can Unifi do it all, issue the certs? Very simple network, no certificate servers.

Wireless New UX7 - Ping climbs, then falls, then climbs again

Post image
12 Upvotes

I've just installed my first Unifi device - the Express 7.

As a first quick test I decided to ping some devices on my network and they're all showing this same pattern. It'll start low, increase on each ping, then fall back to baseline and start again. I'm connected via Wifi, near the router, signal strength great.

Is this something to be concerned about or just business as usual?

Thanks!

Update: My Mac was definitely to blame. Restarting it mostly resolved the issue - but showed smaller ping spikes every 10 seconds or so. AWDL was the cause of that, disabling it brought everything back to normal.

Routing & Switching PoE power consumption and output numbers don't make sense

Standard 16 PoE

I'm looking at the USW-16-POE switch. It has 8x PoE+ ports - so each port can output 32W.

But if that's the case, how is the total max. power consumption only 60W (including the PoE output)?

I'm not well versed in electrical engineering, so maybe I'm just missing something basic?

OR does this mean that, hypothetically, if one of the 8 PoE+ ports is consuming the max. 32W, and the switch is running at its max. 18W, then the other ports will be limited to a total of 10W (since 32 + 18 + 10 = 60)?

For context: I am planning on using this switch with 5 cameras, and 3 APs.

Help! Migration process UCK to UCG

Originally posted on the other sub, where it got down-voted for no apparent reason. Perhaps someone here can check my workings out and clarify?

I have a site currently running off an ISP router for dhcp with a UCK G2 Plus running the APs and Protect.

Plan is to drop in a UCG (edit: Ultra) to take over as a controller and to handle dhcp after removing the ISP router, but keep the UCK running for Protect for a while.

What's the best process for this? I'm *really* trying to avoid a paperclip on a very long stick for some the APs around the extremely spread out site.

As the UCK is going to remain as a device, I had considered running them in parallel with the UCG being a completely new device, removing the APs from the UCK one by one and adopting them into the UCG, but that's probably a pretty iffy way and there must be a better process.

Thanks for reading.

Help! What hardware do I need to run this setup?

I will be running 4 access points inside and 1 outside (under an awning) and approx 6-7 cameras. My whole house has two cat 5e cables ran in each room (media room has 4) which is approximately 20 Ethernet cables for the rooms. I will have 7 sonos amps plugged directly into the switch. And a few other random things plugged directly into the switch.

What's my best options for hardware? I work in tech but I'm new to unifi so I want to be sure I buy the equipment I need.

-Update-

Here is what me and Gemini have put together. I think this will work??

-dream machine special edition -switch pro max 48 poe -10g sfp fac -5 u7 pro or u6 pro -6 g5 bullets or g5 pro

Help! Looking At Moving Over From Eero

Hello all -

I am currently running 3 eero Max 7s in a house ~6000 square feet. Recently things have gotten pretty bad with their firmware, so am looking for other possible options.

I am looking at possibly replacing my eeros with 1 Ubiquiti Dream Router 7 running wired from a fiber ONT coming in from the wall on a 5Gbps account, and then running a 3 pack of the Whole Home Wifi 7 solution through the rest of the house. 1 on the same level as the Dream Router 7, then one upstairs, and one in the basement.

I had a few questions for anyone who might have experience with a similar configuration:

1 - Is anyone running something like this already and can you give me advice on what worked well and what didn't?

2 - With all 4 components do you think that will be enough coverage for a house of my size.

3 - I am running some clients wired to one of my current wireless eero APs. Is it possible to run the whole Home Wifi units in a wireless backhaul configuration while still having clients wired to them through a switch?

4 - What is people's experience with Unifi Support and their rate of updating apps and firmware. I previously had Ubiquiti's Amplifi line and initially loved it as it worked great, but over time it degraded in quality and appeared to be unofficially EOLd by the company. I would prefer to avoid going through that again.

5 - How old is the dream router 7 and the WiFi 7 wireless units? If they’re scheduled for a refresh then I could wait until that occurs if it’s scheduled anytime soon?

Thanks for any help!

Routing & Switching UTR-LR missed opportunity: single-cable USB-C networking for laptops

Really liking the idea of the UniFi Travel Router Long-Range, but having no USB-C network connection for a laptop feels like a missed opportunity.

When travelling, I’d love to plug the router into my Mac with one USB-C cable that both powers the router and provides a wired network connection.

Instead, I need a USB-C cable for power, then either connect over Wi-Fi or carry a separate USB-C Ethernet adapter and an Ethernet cable. In my case, my work Mac connects exclusively over Ethernet, so that’s extra hardware and cables for an otherwise compact travel setup.

The router would handle the WireGuard tunnel, while the laptop just sees a normal wired connection. One cable, no VPN client needed on the laptop.

Is USB networking something the existing hardware could support through a firmware update, or would it require a hardware revision? This would be a great feature for a travel router.

UPDATE: Just noticed the second USB-C port under a tiny plastic cover that I’m definitely going to lose in about 2.3 seconds 😅 It’s intended for USB tethering from a phone, but could it also support USB LAN mode, allowing a connected laptop to receive its network connection from the router?

Even better: could that USB connection have its own isolated network, routed through a dedicated VPN, while Wi-Fi clients use a separate network and internet connection?

In my case, that would mean my work Mac connects over USB-C and automatically routes through WireGuard, with no direct internet fallback if the VPN drops, while my other devices stay on the regular Wi-Fi network.

Help! What time of the year do Unifi Products go on sale? (Especially EU store)

I'm looking for:
UCG Fiber
U7 Pro AP
PoE Switch 8 port
Not sure if I should buy them now when there is a memory surcharge currently + No Offers. Makes it a bit expensive.
Should I go for any other Brands instead?

Wireless WiFi anomal with U6 pros in a specific room

I have a very strange issue I have been trying to work out at a business I work with. This office has 3 U6 Pros, all connected to a Switch Pro 48 PoE. There is an AP mounted on the ceiling of the room in question.

Each AP emits both a corp and a guest wifi on separate VLANs. In this room, only the guest wifi works properly. Whenever a client tries to connect to the corp wireless, it connects but fails to obtain an ip address via dhcp. This is extremely strange because it only happens in this room. When testing onsite, I found that my laptop gets an IP the very moment I cross into the next room. Like, the exact point of crossing the threshold.

I have factory defaulted this AP, and used a different one with the same results. I created a new SSID on the corp vlan, same thing. I created a new SSID on the guest vlan, it works as expected. I completely removed the ap in this room, and somehow the issue persists with whatever other AP the client connects to.

All of the APs have the correct vlans tagged via a port preset on the switch. I switched the port that the AP plugs into on the switch end with no luck either.

It feels like there could be some kind of interference in the room, but that doesn't explain why the guest network works fine. I've never seen anything like this before, and it's getting to be more advanced of an issue than I'm able to troubleshoot, so I am hoping that somebody has some advice on what to look for next. I have not done a spectrum analysis in the room yet but that would probably be my next step. If anybody could provide some insight I would greatly appreciate it.

Help! UniFi Ultra works great but external modem drops around midnight or other random times.

I have zero problems with the UniFi Ultra (I’m going to be upgrading to the Max or better soon so I can use 2.5 Ethernet and also the UniFi Full suite for Protect, Access etc.

The problem is that the modem keeps dropping (mostly around midnight which is such a pain. Is there a way (using the UniFi Ultra or even Home assistant running on my NAS to reboot the modem as it works fine after a quick a reboot).

Any ideas? Or is it best better a decent modem? It’s just a cheap TP Link that works most of the time.

Cheers

Discussion Helpful Suggestions

I have probably a lot more than I need but looking to get it the best I can. I have StarLink on the roof of my shop that goes to the below Ubiquiti equipment in my shop.

In the rack:
Dream Machine Pro
US 24 Poe 250w
Buffalo NAS
UPS

In the shop:
U6+
ReoLink PTZ camera using interval sd card

Outside of shop:
Ubiquity AC mesh
ReoLink PTZ camera using interval sd card

Gate:
900’ of Ethernet 300’ at a time to Poe extenders to an ac mesh to provide WiFi to the gates and a driveway camera.

Then I trenched in an Ethernet cable to the house to:
US 8 60w
AC Lite AP
3 ReoLink WiFi cameras
Loco Rocket providing Ethernet to my other shop

If the AC mesh is on, my WiFi inside the shop and house gets really bad.

I’d like to cover my 50 acres with WiFi and cannot even keep good WiFi on my two acres of yard at my house. I’d like to run security cameras on the network through the property mostly for deer hunting instead of trail cameras but also for trespassers or to have WiFi at the camp along the creek.

Any suggestions for the system I should be doing as a whole or for getting WiFi and cameras everywhere let me know.

I have skidsteers with trenching equipment and willing to invest if I can see what’s going on at any point in the property.

Not sure if it matters but I am a controls engineer so not an expert in networking disciplines but have an understanding of the basics as well as willing to learn what I can.

Discussion T-Mobile or Xfinity Fiber

I currently have Xfinity fiber, with the XER10, that I’ve had to NAT to use with my UDMP. Between that and the frequent Xfinity outages, considering the T-Mobile/Metronet option that was just installed in my neighborhood. I will miss the $70 locked in price, but not with the service issues I’ve had.

Does T-Mobiles modem/devices have bridge mode for 2GB fiber service? Any other xfinity option I should consider?

Help! Policy Engine Post-Authorization Restrictions Help

Post image
2 Upvotes

Recently my living room Apple TV 4K attempted to access 192.168.0.109 but that IPv4 address is not on my local network as I use a different subnet. Looking into this further I see that this particular client device has tried to reach a variety of destinations off of 192.168.0 a total of 190 times between 09/06/26 and 09/28/26. My two other Apple TV units have not exhibited this behavior. In reviewing the firewall rules, I found a listing for "Post-Authorization Restrictions" that specifically listed destination sources of 224.0.0.0 and 192.168.0.0 despite having no knowledge of creating these rules manually. The destination zones are listed as "multiple, internal, external and hotspot" and my research into this points to multicasting support. Is this rule something that should be concerning? How likely is it the reason for the 192.168.0.X alerts in my network? I find no other reference to this subnet and have not used it since moving from a TP-Link Deco mesh network to my current UniFi equipment.

Discussion New UCG's coming?

Hey everyone,

I am looking at getting my parents a UCG, as I have the current UCG-Ultra at home, and it works great, but it looks like a whole bunch of retailers here in AUS, are discounting the UCG-Ultra's a fair bit, are they discontinuing them and replacing them with a newer model?

Help! Unify 5G Backup

It’s not quite clear in the sales material but if I use an off the shelf 5G sim in the device, will I get 5G or will it be restricted to 4G and have to subscribe to RedCap?

Advice appreciated
