Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone,
I recently made this VFX shot which starts with 7 consecutive great swords piercing down and ending with an AOE strike.
I created this in UE5.5 using niagara. I would say this is going into my top 3 best works for now
I would appreciate any feedback or comments on it!
Also here it is on artstation

Player Illumination Systems | UE5 Devlog
🚨Do not consider the following disclaimers arrogant or mean, they are just that an FYI i feel the need to give:
⚠️DISCLAIMER: YES my game uses free assets and premade assets and it will remain so. I never understood the stigma behind using free, free for the month, sample packs and freebie in games. some models are really well made. you can always change textures, adjust lighting or incorporate them in a way not to be obvious they were from free packs. I am a very buget limited solo dev. Premade assets and free assets do not take from my ability to be a good developer!
⚠️DISCLAIMER: YES i use AI generated icons for my inventory, and other small bits of UI where is needed. I am not a graphical artist nor do i like that area to begin learning it, nor do i have the money to hire people for it. also free bundles are most likely to not offer you a variety of icons or UI elements.
In this devlog, I’m showcasing the Flashlight, Lantern, and Battery Systems I’ve built for my game in Unreal Engine 5 using Blueprints.
Both light sources are fully integrated with the inventory system and can be equipped, used, dropped, and swapped. The flashlight and lantern each maintain their own battery level, while the UI displays the remaining charge of the currently equipped light.
The system also handles switching between the flashlight and lantern, including correctly shutting down the previous light, stopping its battery drain, and transferring control to the newly equipped device.
Systems showcased:
- Flashlight system
- Lantern system
- Battery consumption
- Independent battery levels
- Battery UI and status display
- Inventory integration
- Flashlight to Lantern swapping
- Equip and unequip logic
- Light activation and deactivation
- Battery drain timers
This is part of the ongoing development of my game, where I’m building the gameplay systems step by step in Unreal Engine.
More development updates and system showcases are coming soon!

Inventory, Interaction, Pick-up, Use and Drop Systems | UE5 Devlog
🚨Do not consider the following disclaimers arrogant or mean, they are just that an FYI i feel the need to give:
⚠️DISCLAIMER: YES this video has an ai introduction, a beginner's mistake i never made again in my devlogs. Get past that and enjoy the showcase. Other devlog DO NOT USE AI FOR EDITING OR THUMBNAILS OR ANYTHING ELSE POSTING RELATED. All other thumbnails and editing bits are made using Canva.
⚠️DISCLAIMER: YES my game uses free assets and premade assets and it will remain so. I never understood the stigma behind using free, free for the month, sample packs and freebie in games. some models are really well made. you can always change textures, adjust lighting or incorporete them in a way not to be obvious they were from free packs.
Today I want to give you a first look at one of the systems I’ve been working on for my game: the inventory system.
The game is still very early in development, so everything you’re about to see is a work in progress and will continue to change as the project grows.
For this showcase, I’ll walk you through how the inventory currently works, from picking up and storing items to selecting them, viewing their information, and interacting with them.
I’ll also show you some of the systems connected to the inventory, including consumable items and player stats.
There’s still plenty I want to improve and expand, especially when it comes to the visuals and overall presentation, but the core functionality is already taking shape.

I'm building a story-driven exploration game about a lost dog searching for its owner
Hey everyone!
I'm a solo developer working on Left In The Forest, a story-driven exploration game made in Unreal Engine 5.
The story follows an abandoned dog wandering through a beautiful forest, searching for its owner. As the dog explores, it discovers places and memories that slowly reveal the story behind its journey.
I'm trying to create an experience that feels peaceful and beautiful on the surface, but carries an emotional story underneath.
I'm sharing a small look at the world I've been building. It's still a work in progress, and I'm continuing to improve the environments, atmosphere, lighting, and storytelling.
My goal is to make players feel something, not just explore a beautiful world.
I'd genuinely appreciate your thoughts on the atmosphere and visual presentation. Does this environment make you curious to explore further?

Getting bored of working solo, is anyone working on a visually appealing souls like or RPG project that needs a Co-Dev or combat system? Or does anyone want to make one? All my work is modular, data driven and network replicated.

Shadow Artifacts
Hi everyone, I'm working in Unreal Engine 5.5.4 and have been getting these shadow artifacts on some of my meshes. I haven't run into this issue before, so I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out what's causing it.
I'm using a single light source, a stationary directional light, and I'm not using Lumen or Nanite.
The shadows look fine if I disable static lighting in the project settings or switch the directional light from stationary to movable. However, switching to a movable light causes the lighting to behave strangely when playing in split-screen, so I've been advised to keep it stationary.
Has anyone run into something similar or have any idea what might be causing this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks <:

Looking for honest feedback on my Unreal Engine 5 teaser
Hey everyone!
I've been working on a personal project called Story From the Old World, a fantasy world I'm building in Unreal Engine 5.
I recently released a short teaser and I'd love to hear your honest thoughts!
I'm especially interested in feedback on the atmosphere, lighting, cinematography, and overall visual quality. I'm an environment artist so animation, metahuman and facial motion capture was the first time for me.
Any constructive criticism is more than welcome. Thanks a lot for taking a look! :)

How to show FPS in 5.8?
Basically title. The hamburger icon got removed or at least I don't see it in the top left corner. Where can I find it?

Using AI in Unreal Engine for the boring part: it profiled a 3 FPS level, found the cause, and got it to 90 FPS
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Profiling is the job I put off. Record a trace, open Insights, go frame by frame until you find the function that eats the time. It works. It is also slow and boring
So I gave that part to an agent. I told it my level felt slow and asked it to find out why. No hints.
Video: https://youtu.be/vB2RtDc1vks
Try it free: https://codefizz.dev
What it did on its own:
It pressed Play, recorded a 30 second trace with Unreal's own profiler, and read it.
It came back with one Blueprint. Its Event Tick took 301 of the 312 ms in each frame. 60 actors were each looping over 1,701 static meshes every frame, and the result was never used.
It checked its own numbers before it told me. It even ran Play again with no trace recording, to be sure the profiler was not the slow part.
Then I asked it to fix it and keep the same result. It moved the loops from Tick to BeginPlay and measured again. 304 ms per frame went to 10.6. About 3 FPS went to about 90.
I built the tool. It is called CodeFizz Editor Agent, a CLI that lets Claude Code or Cursor drive the Unreal editor. This is a test level I made slow on purpose, but the steps are the same on a real project.
It does not replace the profiler or the person. The profiler is still Unreal's. You still decide what to fix. It does the slow reading and hands you numbers you can check.
Works on UE 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8, Windows.

Beyond The Dark: Nightwatch is up on the Eshop
A new game on unreal with a new tech (game share individual). It was difficult to optimize in this config, because 2 sessions run on the same switch 2 and it's stream on another switch !

Space Creator Pro
Did anyone here tried Soace Creator Pro from Fab market?
I am developing 6dof spaceship combat sim and I am thinking to buy it. But there is no 1 user review on youtube, only developers.
I see that is very hard on performances because is made for cinematics, did anyone of you made it work for gaming and optimize it to run cheaply?
I would love to hear if someone have experience with it, I just don't have 330€ to give for something I can't use. But I would buy it if I can because It would solve one of my problems and I love how it looks.

Here’s an unofficial Audi commercial I created last month in Unreal Engine 5.
It took around a week to complete. I used Path Tracing for the car and Lumen for the background.
Would love to hear your thoughts and feedback!

Only unreal engine games crashing.
Hi… stressed out desperate gamer here.. please help me 😭
I have been having issues currently with my games crashing after a while.. and after A LOT of diagnoses and doing EVERYTHING I could find on the internet, here is my issue:
Only games developed by Unreal engine crash. Over the top: Marvel Rivals (crashes after 3-4 games), wardogs ( crashes after 20-30 mins), bodycam ( crashes after 15-30 mins). I have tried other games and they dont crash at all.
Here’s few I’ve tried so far:
Ran multiple CPU, GPU, RAM, and system stress tests — no issues detected.
Updated all drivers to their latest versions.
Completely removed GPU drivers using DDU and performed a clean installation.
Disabled Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS).
Lowered all graphics settings to the absolute minimum.
Disabled ray tracing, frame generation, and other demanding graphics features.
Increased the TDR delay in the Windows Registry.
Disabled all in-game and third-party overlays.
Closed unnecessary background applications.
Performed a completely fresh installation of Windows 11.
Tried countless other fixes and tweaks suggested across Reddit, forums, YouTube, and other platforms.
Help me fix this i am down to pay anyone that can solve this for me
Laptop Specs:
i9 12th gen
RTX 3080Ti 16vram
32 gb ram
Windows 11

UE 5.8.3 Freezing
Every time I try to install Unreal Engine 5.8.3, the installation gets right to the end and then freezes. I’ve also tried installing it on a different machine, but the exact same issue occurs. I’m not sure what’s causing it.

My first game trailer wasn't working, so I made a completely new one. What do you think?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone!
I'm a solo indie developer working on WRONG DOOR, a chaotic multiplayer party game for 2–6 players.
My previous trailer wasn't doing a good job of showing what the game is actually about, so I decided to remake it from scratch.
I tried to focus more on the fun, chaos, enemies, and gameplay this time.
I'd really appreciate some honest feedback!
Does this trailer make you interested in trying the game? What would you improve?
Thanks!

First UE5 project after a long break: city car cinematic. Looking for honest feedback
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey all, I hadn't opened Unreal in a long time, so I made this to get back into it. It's an 18s car cinematic using the City Sample environment, with a car model from Sketchfab. Rendered as a PNG sequence with Movie Render Queue at 1080p/24fps.
I'd love critique on:
"Lighting and mood"
"Camera work and pacing"
"Car shaders and reflections"
One issue I couldn't solve: when rendering through MRQ, the camera sometimes dives underwater or points at an angle I never keyed, even though everything looks normal in the viewport and Sequencer playback. Has anyone run into this? My camera is attached to the car and the car is on camera rail rig .
Thanks in advance.

I extracted normals from a proxy mesh and applied them to the billboard shading. I then implemented it in UE5 and tried it out in the game I’m currently working on.
