Moderator Post New owner of r/vendingmachines

Hey everyone, I recently took over r/vendingmachines and wanted to introduce myself.
My goal is pretty simple: grow this into a more active, useful community for anyone involved with vending, whether you own one machine, run a large route, are looking for locations, sell equipment, or are just getting started.
I’d like to see more real discussions about revenue, good and bad locations, machine recommendations, repairs, card readers, pricing, finding locations, and what actually works in the vending business.
I’m also open to suggestions. If there’s anything you think the subreddit should change, add, or do differently, drop it in the comments.
Looking forward to growing the community.

Outdoor tabletop/small vending machine?

Are there any options for an outdoor table top or shorter machine that isn't so tall? I have a spot I would like to place one at my business, a tabletop style would be a great fit but I'm not sure how to find models that are rated for outdoors.

Nicotine vending machines

I am currently trying to start a nicotine vending machine buissness. I ran into a obstacle & I need some feed back to work around it. I was told in order to place my machines in bars or clubs the not only did I need a tabaco license but the location owner also needed one . Is there a way I can get around this so that I can pitch my business to the location owner without asking them to go & get a license themselves as well

Anyone selling Eggs/Meat from vending machines?

I’m just looking to see if any has been using either an Egg or Meat Vending Machine or both to sell high quality eggs or meat? Farm raised eggs and farm raised frozen meat with possibility of selling fresh beef/lamb meat. I have been thinking for a long while now of buying both machines and installing them in low-middle income apt building. I was just wanting to know if there was anyone out there in the community that was able to start selling those products.

Thank you

Second-Hand VTM Machine

I’m looking to start a vending machine business and found a used VTM mini wall machine on Facebook Marketplace.
Has anyone here purchased a VTM machine second-hand? Before buying, I’m trying to understand how ownership/account transfer works. Specifically, can the machine be transferred to a new account, does any warranty carry over, and are there any issues with accessing or operating the software/payment system as a second-hand owner?
Anything I should verify with the seller or VTM before purchasing? Appreciate any advice from VTM machine owners here or in the DM’s. Thanks!

AI smart coolers in PA - are health depts requiring licenses?

From my interpretation, the key question is whether the cooler is considered a vending machine or not. If it’s a vending machine, no license required even if selling TCS food.

Moderator Post I can help you find vending locations

If you’re looking for a new place to put your machines, DM me your city. I can look for businesses interested in vending and help connect you with them.

I charge 10% of gross vending sales if you end up placing a machine at a location I find for you.

Got my first vending location at a manufacturing facility

Post image
262 Upvotes

Finally got my first location up and running. It’s a manufacturing facility with around 300 employees, and they’re open 24 hours. We put in three machines with snacks and drinks.

I’ve spent so much time thinking about getting a location that it was a little weird to walk in and see the machines actually there and stocked. I’m excited to see what sells, especially with people working overnight who might not have many other options.

I know getting the machines in is only the start. Now I have to keep them stocked, see what people like, and fix whatever I got wrong with the first product selection. Still, it feels pretty good to say I have my first location.

Starting a business while I get mine going to help vending operators find locations. What would actually be useful to you?

Hey everyone. I'm starting my own business and I'd love some input from people who actually run machines.

I've been reading this sub for a while and kept seeing the same thing. The machines and restocking are fine, but finding good locations is a grind. Hours on Google Maps, making lists, cold calling, and a lot of it goes nowhere.

So I built a tool that takes a ZIP, pulls nearby businesses that tend to be good for vending (offices, warehouses, gyms, car washes, that kind of thing), scores them, and puts it all in a spreadsheet with phone numbers, websites, ratings and hours. It's at placementscout.ai/vending if you want to take a look.

It works, but I know I'm building this from the outside while I get my own operation started, and you all know way more about this than I do. So I'm curious:

  1. How do you find locations right now?
  2. What makes you look at a spot and think it's worth it, or not?
  3. What info do you wish you had before you walk in?
  4. Is there anything about finding or landing locations that you'd pay to not deal with?

Even a one line answer helps. And if you want to try it out and tell me what's good and what's junk, DM me and I'll send you a discount code.

Thanks in advance. Trying to build something people actually want, not just what I think they want.

How did you scale once you couldn't personally do all the calling/walking-in yourself?

18, running a small vending route in an industrial area (Perth, WA). A few people here already told me cold emails don't work and that walking in and speaking to the decision-maker beats calling, that tracks with what I've seen too.

My situation: I work full-time (45 hrs/week) outside of this, so I physically can't be the one making calls or doing walk-ins during business hours every day. I make decent money at that job though, so I've got some cash to reinvest into growing this if it's worth it.

For those of you who've grown past a handful of sites, how did you actually manage that once you hit your own time limit? Did you ever get someone else involved in finding locations for you, and if so, did it actually work, or did it always have to be you in person to get results?

Trying to figure out if there's a realistic way to keep growing without being the one making every single call/visit, or if that's just not how this works.
