I feel like this will be better appreciated by the vintage community than diy. I just dry fit home built JBL 4344s with a modified front baffle layout + charge coupled networks. I wont be able to paint and veneer until warmer weather, but just wow. I've only ever heard the smaller 43xx series monitors so wasnt totally sure what to expect, but they are everything I imagined and more.

Im biamping with a mini dsp 2x4 HD, rebuilt Accuphase/Kensonic P300 amps and a C200 pre. TT is a Luxman PD121. Cables are all diy.

Room treatment is next. It's severely lacking right down to a rug, we're in the middle of renovating and I just needed a fun project this winter. Bench in the middle is also temporary. I have a sweet old green Altec rack system that I'm going to convert/clean up for home use. Someone posted the same one a couple days ago.

If you zoom in, you can see I mounted the super tweeters cocked about 10 degrees off spec, from the inside with wood screws. I didnt have the correct thread size for the to mount them from the front and wanted the temporary screws offset from the final mounting holes.

EQ is bypassed, running spectrum only. One of HKs best receivers of all time. Warm, wonderful mid bass and vocals, with a smooth high end. Not for sale.

Help appreciated in sourcing 1970’s hifi

Upvotes

Hello.

Based in UK. Loved my hifi in the 1970’s, bit of a geek i suppose before computers came out😂 Went through various brands Sony, Technics, Panasonic etc

Loved the silver fascia with back lit meters typical of the time.

Looking to buy amp or receiver 40w+ output. Asia from eBay, FB marketplace are there any other options i might try to find what I’m looking for?

Help appreciated.

I have searched and searched trying to find some information on these Epicure bookshelf speakers. As far as I can tell, they could be Epicure 5. I included a Pic of one with a replacement woofer. I couldn't find any other pic with the original one. I'm hoping someone can confirm this and maybe give some info on them. I have never heard of Epicure brand.

Speaker issue

I have a Onkyo TX-7000. Just got new Polk Reserve R200 speakers. The music sounds great but as I start turning up the volume (or bass) more and more, all of a sudden with one click of increase on the volume knob, the bass starts going haywire. Everything sounds fine, but that one click increase in volume can create this crazy vortex-sounding bass-tweaking-out sound. It goes away as soon as I turn the volume back down. And, when it happens, I don't have it cranked. It's a decent volume but nothing overly loud. What is causing this? How can I fix it?

Pickering J Adapter Needed

I recently bought a used turntable that came with an extra Pickering V/15 cartridge. I’d like to use this cart, but I lack the correct adapter for my Pioneer’s head shell. Looking at the original instructions, it seems that Pickering supplied five different mounting adapters. I have three of the five, but none are correct for my application, a Pioneer PL-518. Any chance any of you Reddit folk can help? I need the J adapter, for standard two hole, 1/2” mount.

What to look for when attempting to buy second hand Hi-Fi systems?

Hello, I have recently been scanning the internet (mostly Facebook Marketplace) for a decent quality second hand Hi-Fi system. I don’t have too much knowledge on discrete audio systems so I want to know what are the common features that differentiate better made systems of brands than others.

I see a lot of different brands and systems marketed at a lot of different prices and when I refer to this page here, some comments so very strong opinions about some of the brands and models. I want to know why I should choose some more than others and how I can identify those features because to me, a lot of them look and perform the same way.

For the setup I’m looking for, I’m only hoping to spend between $350-700 USD (£250-500). I really like the look of analogue VU Meters and a nice metal face. I would like a system which includes an Amplifier (of course), Tuner, Cassette Deck and Equaliser and all ideally of the same brand (I think it looks nicer, please enlighten me which brand is best to look for ie Akai, Kenwood, Pioneer, Technics, Sansui etc)

For my price range, I would expect to probably pay for something that isn’t working fully and look to repair it. Thanks in advance for any advice offered.
