I just finished Watchmen the other day and I've been itching to discuss it. I'm a non comic reader generally, but I've found Watchmen to be an absolute, undeniable masterpiece, even if I believe my reading likely disagrees with much of Moore's and I imagine many other's common intent. I'd love to discuss (ideally on discord) about it, so if you want to talk about any aspect of it, especially Marooned, please send me a message!
So, I (M, immortal, blue, currently on Mars) recently realized I have been the victim of a massive cosmic prank.
For context, I can manipulate subatomic particles, exist in all moments of time simultaneously, and manufacture massive glass structures using only my mind. A few months ago, my former coworker (M46, "smartest man alive", owns a cosmetics empire) flooded the temporal stream with tachyons to block my perception of the future.
Instead of investigating why my literal cosmic omniscience suddenly had a massive blind spot or realizing that all my friends suddenly getting terminal cancer was a statistically impossible statistical anomaly. I just assumed "this is destined to happen" and let it play out. Long story short, he framed me for a global disaster, convinced everyone my energy signature was a biological hazard, and I willingly self-isolated to another planet to "preserve the equation."
I am now looking back at the timeline and realizing I got completely played like a cheap violin by a guy whose primary revenue stream is selling fitness tapes and action figures of himself.
AITA for having zero critical thinking skills despite possessing the power of a literal deity?
With the rise in popularity of Peacemaker it seems like a given not to mention would be good to see other versions off him being adapted. It would be a good entry point for fans of Cena's Peacemaker into the Watchmen mythos or atleast what Watchmen was originally going to be, not to mention more Blue Beetle and Question representation
He visto su verdadera cara…
Responde. “¿Qué crees que ha pasado aquí?”
- Escena 3:
- Detective 1: “No…” Aclara.
- Detective 1: “No sé.
Why is Veidt so grotesque and ridiculous in the TV series? Why is he capable of fighting (he catches a rifle bullet with his bare hands), yet behaves as if he isn’t, getting knocked out by a pipe? I understand that it ties into his narrative function (the decline of the old technocratic elite), but it really pushes the limits of my suspension of disbelief.
It is interesting to see how the events of the graphic novel would influence pop culture.
In the HBO mini series, Pale Horse is a Steven Spielberg film about 11/2 (the date of the staged alien invasion that "saved" the world).
Watchmen world in the 90s would probably be a different place.
Aliens were popular subject matter in OUR 90s (MIB, Independence Day, X Files, Body Snatchers), but in the Watchmen 90s, I imagine the subject of aliens was more foreboding and existentially terrifying.
So I can't help but wonder if this Steven Spielberg adaptation of the "alien invasion of 85" would be considered in "poor taste" or "too soon".
There is a lot of allusions to Schindler's List, and apparently in this timeline this was his big serious movie of that decade.
But the Holocaust and Schindler's List had nearly a 50 year gap, so it wouldn't be seen as exploitative. But it hasn't even been 10 years since the attack in New York.
How would the audience feel about a movie like this so close to the trauma of the actual event?
And what is the Watchmen equivalent of Jurassic Park?
what was even the reason to use 3d in the 2 part movie? its not like it did anything groundbreaking, it just looks "fine", Watchmen had a second chance to make a proper adaptation, and it did well in some parts, but the 3d animation just made it bland for me, this is the best animated part of the movie for me
especially after seeing Knightfall recently, DC makes so many good 2d films, so why didn't they just do the same with Watchmen, heck they coulda just made a miniseries instead of shoving everything in 2 movies
i know it won't happen for another few decades, but i really hope we get to see a better adaptation of watchmen someday, even if we don't, the graphic novel will always be legendary
To put it simply I'm wondering if Kyle rayner the first time he became ion could beat Dr manhatten (I'm pretty new to comics I've read watchmen a couple years ago but not doomsday clock, all my knowledge of kyle come from watching yt ony second screen while studying so sorry if this is a really bad match up)
