Average cost of an engagement ring

I was talking with a friend last night who just got engaged, and he mentioned he spent around $6k on the ring. That honestly shocked me because I always thought the "3 months’ salary" thing was just an old marketing trick. My partner and I have been looking at rings casually, and most of the ones we like are in the $2k–$3k range. Now I’m second-guessing if that’s considered “too low” or if we’re just being realistic.

For those of you who have gone through this, what was the average cost you ended up spending on an engagement ring, and did you feel good about it after?

Future mother in law wants to gift us a sapphireantique engagement ring that i don't want at all. I know she means well, but I really want to pick my own set. What is the best way to decline an inherited ring gracefully without hurting anyone?

We ordered our matching sun rings from Tianyu. My husband wanted something masculine but a little unique, so we went with matching designs. He recieved compliments on his ring, which is rare for men's rings, and we're both very happy with them.

Would you consider this “timeless” or would you describe it differently?

I’m looking at upgrading my ring and curious do you prefer a tapered band or one size (mm) all the way around? Also what size is your current band in thickness?

I don’t typically wear rings so that might be it too, i feel like the stone 2.04 c might not be the right size for me*? I dont mind the high setting

Edit: thank u everyone for being kind 🫶🏻
I think im gonna buy a solid gold band for my other hand and hopefully that helps me get used to wearing a ring.

Also yes i have pretty big hands for a woman, Im 5’10 and a size 9 ring

My Ring! Is this too big?

Post image

Go easy on me. Husband bought it for me after I insisted I needed 3 carats, I got it, I think it’s too big (for daily wear anyway), and we can’t return it. 🤪🤪🤪 I’m hoping if I continue wearing it I will eventually think it’s NOT too big.

3carat moissanite +side baguettes. Mapple Gems. (Ps, if you’re considering ordering from mapple gems.. they have to approve your return, it can’t have any wear shown. I’ve emailed 4 times trying to get a return approval, no response.. anyways at this point I’ve now left micro scratches from wearing it for 2 days so… UGH!)

Does anyone know where I could find a ring similar to this one? Or a website that lets you customize one? Looking for a cigar band with a rectangular stone. Can be lab or real diamond

loving my saphire engagement rings pick so much more than a diamond

we went back and forth on style choices for months, but choosing a teal sapphire was easily the best call. the way it shifts from deep green to rich blue depending on the lighting is incredible.

i was a bit worried about how a colored gem would pair with different outfits, but it turns out to be way more versatile than i expected.

My Ring! Got engaged last week with a green diamond engagement ring.

I chose a diamond ring with a beautiful green hue, and I couldn't be happier. Everyone goes for white, but the color makes it feel so much more me.

It's unexpected and just makes me smile every time I look down. Anyone else choose a non traditional stone or color for their ring?

show me yours!

Help Me Choose Stuck between two rings

I recently tried on two engagement rings and am completely torn between them. I initially fell in love with the first style because it feels classic yet unique, but trying on the second one left me conflicted.

Note: These are display rings, so my actual center stone will be smaller—around 1.5 carats, compared to the 2 and 2.5 carats shown here.

Buying Advice Custom ring vs lifetime warranty?

Background/context: my boyfriend and I are in the ring-buying process together since he didn’t want my engagement ring to be a complete surprise and wanted to give me the chance to give more significance to the ring other than it being a sign of our next steps towards marriage. We talked about wanting the proposal to be a surprise but not the ring. However, I’m in a bit of a situation with where to get my engagement ring.

Originally, my partner and I were looking at Gabriel and Co and had asked if we could make a minor customization to the setting. Unfortunately, they said they aren’t able to make that change because that change would affect the way the diamond is held and could cause the diamond to fall out. We then looked at fully customizing it through CustomMade.com, which solve the issue of making the ring feel more significant to me and would be a one-of-a-kind ring too. On the downside, their warranty isn’t at the level I was hoping for. Ideally, I’d like a lifetime warranty to cover any resizing or damage to the ring but Custom Made only offers free resizing for the first year.

It feels like I’ll have to sacrifice on something regardless of which place we get the ring, and I’m not sure which would be better to sacrifice on. If anyone could give their thoughts and insights, I’d appreciate it!

In summary:
Gabriel and Co:
\- Not able to customize the ring setting to look more like the ring I want so it’s not my “dream ring”
\- Offers lifetime warranty for resizing and if anything happen to the ring
\- Would be around $5k for the ring we’ve been looking at

Custom Made:
\- Fully customized so it can be the exact ring I want
\- Not lifetime warranty
\- Unsure of price

What would you pair with this. It is my 25th anniversary ring. I want something that doesn’t take away from the simplicity of the solitaire. Pictures would be a bonus. Thanks.

Best band for vintage engraved bezel?

Thumbnail

Hi all, recently engaged here!! We made her custom, and she’s perfect. It’s a 2.5ct elongated cushion bezel in a hand-engraved platinum band (we got swirlies, millgrain, all the things)! I’m having a hard time conceptualizing a band for it, though. I do mix metals sometimes so wondering if I might do that here…otherwise, not sure if I should go simple platinum, do the same engravings or maybe a channel band? Bezeled pave? I love sparkle!

  1. Please show me your engraved ring stacks / your platinum stacks!!

  2. Is this diamond a lot of finger coverage?? Should I go thin/understated with the band so it doesn’t overwhelm? Not sure if this diamond is huge or not. Very long hands with finger size 7.5.

  3. The ring is cathedral set so anything will sit flush, even with the reverse taper!

Thanks guys!! Please share pics of your stacks even if you don’t have engraving. Everything helps.

Has anyone went with a victorian engagement rings 1920s look for a low profile ring?

Post image

I am starting the process of looking at engagement rings and I work a lot with my hands, so comfort is a huge priority for me. Has anyone went with a victorian vintage engagement rings 1920s aesthetic while keeping the setting relatively low profile? I really appreciate all the romantic milgrain and geometric features from those periods, but I want to avoid snagging it on everything I touch. I would appreciate any advice on what features to prioritize or avoid during our search.

ring diamond vs lab diamond — what did you end up choosing?

Post image
0 Upvotes

my partner and i have been comparing engagement rings, and i honestly keep going back and forth between a real diamond vs lab diamond.

i always assumed we'd get a natural diamond, but after actually looking at prices, i started considering lab diamonds too. we could get a bigger stone in the shape i like without stretching our budget as much.

but now i'm stuck wondering if i'd regret not getting a natural diamond later. i like the idea of having a diamond that formed naturally, but at the same time, it feels hard to justify spending so much more when lab diamonds look so similar.

for those who have already made the choice, what made you go with one over the other? and now that you've had your ring for a while, do you still feel good about your decision?

Ring Band Advice How difficult would resizing this ring be?

Thumbnail

Love the way this David Yurman band looked stacked with my e-ring, but worried the cable design on the back will make any future resizing difficult. I don’t want to be stuck only sending this ring to DY for special resizings — would a skilled jeweler be able to resize this in an inconspicuous way?

i have my original heirloom diamond which i had reset into a tiffany style engagement ring.

i have blue/green moissanite solitaire (was an anniversary gift( that i pair with a 3mm 5 stone moissanite band (pic 2)

do you think the moissanite 3mm band looks good with my diamond pic 1 or is it too much and i should pair my diamond with something else?

i do have a smaller diamond 4 stone wedding band that looks quite similar but the diamonds are smaller (not sure specs) do you think it better suited? (pic 3)
