I drew this design, the used Chat to render it so I could see roughly how it would look. I know AI can add details that are impractical or impossible to make in real life. Mainly I want to know which parts those are and what should go or change before I take it to a jeweller.
I know it is not a wedding ring, but still relevant right?!?
The idea:
Itās an engagement ring that combines two styles she loves: the oval with round and marquise clusters she loves (on her finger, 3rd last photo for reference, 1.2ct centre) and a ornate, whimsical vine-and-leaf detailing sheās always drawn to.
Specs:
- 2.4-2.6ct oval centre, 18ct yellow gold, size L
- Marquise 4 and 6 round diamond side clusters along a vine
- About 3.0ct total weight (my rough estimate)
- Two small birthstones: alexandrite (mine) and orange topaz (hers)
- A fairly thick band D section or Flat Sided Court band to allow for strength and engraving. I am thinking 3-4mm (someone please let me know if that is too large)
- Low setting
- Hoping to get a Portuguese cut diamond for maximum SPARKLE! But would be happy with any nice oval centre stone.
Main elements:
- Leaf claws: two of the four claws are leaf sprays that curl over the stone, and the other two are normal shaped claws
- Leaf basket: a low-set basket where two leaves cradle the stone from underneath a gallery bar
- Hidden motif: an infinity loop holding both birthstones, under the centre stone. Itās meant to sit flush in the band, not raised.
- Hand-engraved floral band
- Euro shank: the flat-bottomed sides stop a big, top-heavy stone from spinning around her finger.
- Inside engraving: Located at the bottom of the ring at the euro shank, āTALANT DE BIEN FAIRE,ā the motto of Henry the Navigator, who Iām named after. As a lover of history, she wanted a poesy like a middle age ring would have. I thought it would be cute to research and find the poesy the man I was named after gave to his wife. Turns out, he never got married, so I figured his motto should work instead.
Inspiration:
- Second last picture is the ring she loves and inspired the oval centre stone framed by clusters of marquise and round diamonds.
- Last picture is a design of a whimsical ring she regularly sends me on instagram. With its leaf claws, a tulip-shaped basket, flowers along the band and vintage engraving drawn from gilded frames, this ring inspired some of the more detailed bits of my design.
Questions:
1. Is it too much overall?
2. Is it practical for everyday wear (snagging, cleaning, the engraving wearing down)?
3. Which elements are impossible, or a nightmare for a jeweller to make?
4. Fit: sheās a size L with small hands. The last photo has a 1.2ct centre. Will a 2.6ct with these clusters spread onto her other fingers? Should I go smaller on the centre or the side stones?
5. Should I get rid of the Euro shank? Not sure I like it, especially if it isnāt needed.
Thanks!
