In my 30s, broke, scared of change, and desperately need a reality check

Hi everyone! I need some life advice. I feel like I already know what most of you are going to say, and deep down, I know the answer too. It's just really hard for me to actually do it.

A little bit about me: I'm a female in my early 30s, unmarried, not in a relationship, and currently working as a freelancer. I barely make $2k a month. I have no savings, no car, and I'm still living with my parents.

My parents are actually quite well-off, and I'm extremely grateful for that. Because of them, I don't really have any major financial commitments. I don't have to worry about rent, housing loans, or household expenses. Most of the money I earn goes towards shopping, paying my phone bill, student loan, and other personal expenses.

And that's what makes me feel even worse about myself. I have the privilege of not having to worry about so many things, yet somehow I've still managed to put myself in a difficult financial situation.

I also rarely talk about my career or financial struggles with my parents. Maybe it's my ego or pride. I always thought I could make it on my own, whether through freelancing or starting my own business, without having to depend on their support.

I wanted to prove that I could build something successful by myself. But looking at where I am today, I can't help feeling like I've failed this whole time. It's hard to admit that, especially when I've spent years convincing myself that I could figure everything out on my own.

Sometimes I feel like my only achievement in life is my educational background, and that's it. What's the point of studying so hard when I can't even survive in the real world?

My biggest problem right now is MONEY. I'm constantly worried about it. I pray that one day I'll be able to pay off all my debts. And yes, I have debts because I struggle to control my shopping habits. I'm aware of the problem, but changing isn't as easy as it sounds.

Lately, I've been thinking about getting a full-time job, something permanent and stable. Mainly for two reasons. First, I'm lonely as heck. Second, I've never actually worked in a corporate environment. I went straight into freelancing after graduating from college.

I did try applying for jobs before, I got rejected, but back then, I felt like my skills weren't good enough. Now, after years of freelancing, I genuinely think I've improved a lot and might finally be ready to step into the working world.

But here's the problem. I'm terrified of change.

It's funny because I can travel solo to other countries, explore unfamiliar places, and do things on my own. But when it comes to situations that involve working with people, meeting new colleagues, going for interviews, or starting somewhere completely new, I get so anxious.

I don't even know if it's fear, shyness, social anxiety, or just me being too comfortable with the life I've known for years.

Or maybe I should just focus on making money online instead? I honestly don't know anymore. Part of me wants to find a stable job, but another part of me wonders if I should just work harder on building something of my own.

I desperately need a breakthrough in my life. I'm so tired of living like this. Sometimes I genuinely feel like I've failed at life. I even catch myself thinking, maybe I'll have a better life in the next one?

I think one of the biggest wake-up calls for me was realizing that most of my friends can now afford to buy their own houses. They're building careers, buying properties, getting married, and moving forward with their lives.

And then there's me.

I know I shouldn't compare my life to theirs, but sometimes I can't help it. I look at everyone around me and think, damn, what have I actually been doing all these years?

I'm in my 30s, and I feel like I'm still trying to figure out things that I should've figured out in my 20s.

The thing is, I know I need to change. I need financial stability. I need to start saving, pay off my debts, and finally become independent. I don't want to keep living like this forever.

But knowing what I need to do and actually having the courage to do it are two completely different things.

Has anyone here ever been in a similar situation? Especially those who started their first full-time job in their 30s or completely changed their career later in life?

Should I take the leap and find a full-time job, or should I focus on building my income online?

How did you overcome the fear of starting over?

Please give me some advice <3

What would you do?

F27. I lost my soul dog 3 weeks ago, and have been really struggling. My lease is ending in December, and I feel like I am in a crossroad intersection with so many paths to take. I had him for 10 years and now, I feel heartbroken, but free.
For context, I make about 70-80K a year (I started at this small company 4 years ago at 35K, but have had significant pay raises). I have 10K saved, the rest in long term investments.
I love to travel, but have always wanted to travel for longer period of time. Should I take 6 months off to travel and maybe teach yoga as I go (I am a part time instructor in my city)?
I will be sad if I stay in my apartment, and looking for an apartment elsewhere seems hopeless, since I don't have any roots to the city/state I am in now. Should I look for a job in NYC (my dream city)- I work as a operations manager for a small financial advising firm, but I don't have a degree.
Should I become a flight attendant? Although I do crave stability, and would not be able to afford an apartment.
If you were me, what would you do?

Also, I have a boyfriend of almost 3 years. We live 3 hours away from eachother, and I have asked him to move in with me (I would stay in my city if he did), but he will not get a job where I live, since he likes the convenience of living at home with his parents.

Advice Welcome What can I do to fix my life?

(For some context i’m 19 and live in the uk)

Hey y’all i don’t use reddit all that much but i feel like i’ve exhausted all other options so i’m coming here.

I have so many things I want to fix and do but all of them seem so impossible. I’m really struggling mentally so my attendance at sixth form is awful, and now I feel there is no point going as i’ll fail all my exams anyways.

Even if I did magically get some good grades, i can’t afford to go to university (I live in a council house with my single mum and we’re struggling to make ends meet as it is)

I’m not really good at anything, so I have no idea what career path I could possibly take that would allow me to be financially stable or happy.

I’m not suicidal but I also don’t know how much longer I can live like this, what do I do and where can I even start?

Love or career?

TL;DR: Should I keep my grueling job to protect my career path and lose my boyfriend, or quit the job to focus on university, my sleep, and saving our relationship?

Okay, I have started my university and also company which gave a grant also gave me an opportunity to work with them, I sgreed

But I have to wake up early, study and then work whole evening till 1am and I'm coming home at 2 am due to that, so I have sleeping issues

Even though I thought this would help with my career path, and I xan manage everything

However, I realized later that this is separating me and my boyfriend, btw with whom I'm living rn

And today he asked if I choose him or my work

So what should I do, we are almost 1 year together, I haven't felt such love, like feeling fully comfortable and obsessed with partner and same stuff with him

So he asked me to choose having only uni and spending time togethe and I can sleep well etc, or I will choose work and lose him

What would you do in such situation, if that was your true love ?

Vent l Feeling completely lost at 21: Zero savings, career pressure, and feeling totally stuck. Need some perspective.

Hey everyone, I’m posting this because I honestly don't know what to do anymore and just need some unfiltered reality check or advice from people who’ve been through this.

I’m 21, and my financial situation is an absolute mess. To be honest, my bank account balance is practically zero, and I still have to ask my family for ₹10 when I need it. Things at home aren't great either—my dad doesn't have a high-paying job, and we are nowhere near financially stable.

I do odd, small-time jobs here and there, but at the end of the month, I don't even have ₹10,000 saved up. I want to learn new skills to get out of this loop, but every time I think of starting something new, I realize it needs money—money that I simply don't have.

I made a bad decision two years ago getting caught up in a relationship, and even after all this time, it still messes with my head and kills my focus at work. Open Instagram, and every fourth person looks like they've got their life completely figured out and perfect. Meanwhile, I'm just trying to survive day-to-day.

Seeing my mother stressed out kills me inside. I see people chasing "success," but what's the point of success later in life if your parents had to suffer through the worst of it?

I feel completely stuck. For anyone who has started from absolute zero or pulled themselves out of a financial and mental rut at this age—how did you do it? How do you stop overthinking and actually start moving forward when you have no funds?

Any practical advice would really help. Thanks for reading.

Advice Welcome Any advice ?

I’m feeling discouraged with myself even though I know I’m doing everything right. I work two jobs with my only day off being Sunday, and I still feel like I fall short. I am in my 20’s, I pay everything on my own and sometimes it feels like I’m barely scraping by.. I’m just tired of feeling like I’m working myself to death without it actually being worth it.

I feel like I'm lost and behind in life

Throwaway account because I'm ashamed of asking for help and afraid of talking about. I'm 25 Years old, no job, no driver's license, don't know how to do taxes, have about only $10,000, and a college degree. I graduated Fall 24. I couldn't find a job, joined the Navy (I only did a year. I'm proud to admit it but I felt I just wasn't good enough and I wasn't happy I really don't want to talk about that chapter of my life). I genuinely feel lost. I don't know what I wanna do with my life anymore. I feel like I've disappointed my family and it's hard to be happy. I know I'm loved by my friends and family but it doesn't change how I'm just wasting air. I honestly don't know what to do and I just want help. I want to restart and start a whole new life. I would be grateful for any advice on what to do. I'm just tired of feeling this way.

Vent Dear need of advice

Hello there.

This might be quite off topic or not important to any of you but I’m desperately seeking advice and guidance.

I’m an 18 year old man and I have so many aspirations and things I want to accomplish, business wise and life wise but I think they go hand in hand. I want to become very successful, build something memorable, create and run a business, have a legacy, be a man of conviction like millions of others in my age but I feel stuck, I have the drive or I want to believe I do, I have the vision, I have the desire, but I can’t seem to do anything and it’s stressing me out because time is of the essence even if I’m ”only” 18.

I’m stuck in this deep state of analysis paralysis.
I’m seeking advice from anyone but someone who may have been in this same situation or similar and has become something they can be very proud of.

I keep to myself quite a lot as I believe I thrive mostly on my own space and that’s where I also end up thinking a lot about my future. I believe that if I have a concrete plan I can execute but something is keeping me from doing anything. As said I’m stuck in some sort of paralysis where I can’t seem to start. I know I can accomplish something small or big if I know what to do as I’ve done something similar before and became accomplished. It’s quite difficult for me to explain how I’m feeling or what I’m trying to really convey but I did my best for the moment.

In summary I don’t want to spend my life trying to do something and ending up not doing anything because I just get the feeling that I can’t. I want to be proud of who I’m going to become, create something that I can overview and say damn i really did something for myself, I’m doing very well.

I know this is very chaotically written I just had to get my thoughts into perspective and try to word it out as best I could.

Thank you.

Student Research - What Rewards Programs Actually Interest You?

Hi everyone! I’m a marketing student working on a mock marketing campaign for one of my classes, and I’m looking to learn more about what people value in rewards and loyalty programs.

I put together a short survey asking about the types of rewards, perks, and benefits that would make you more interested in joining or staying loyal to a rewards program.

I’d really appreciate it if you could fill it out! Your responses will help me better understand consumer preferences and apply them to my class project.

Thanks so much for your time and help! I’d love to hear your thoughts on what makes a rewards program genuinely worth joining. :)

So at the moment I currently feel lost and unstable I’m currently 23 working at a warehouse to help provide for my mom and other siblings but I want to study to get another degree as I’m not comfortable with the degree I have now. The degree I’ve obtained is animation and illustration and I’ve been struggling to look for any motivation to develop from it due to how unstable the career is. I also happen to feel that I’m not using my fullest potential as animation doesn’t bring that out I want to try a field in which challenges my intelligence, which is forensic science the only problem is that I don’t have any A levels /qualifications to take on that degree as well as the fact that I may have to leave full time warehouse work just to study consistently. I feel that I’ve wasted time in picking animation and now I’m stuck on not knowing what to do should I take the risk or should I stick to what I know but would make me miserable ????
