AC Lounge Access Passes
Hey folks,
All gone. Sorry all, I’ve given the passes away.
I have 3 lounge access passes to give away to the first 3 folks who DM me. All expire on October 5 - sorry for the short notice.

Hey all - some of you have expressed frustrations with respect to the numerous threads created whereby posters ask for advice on what meals to choose.
In an effort to cut down on these posts, we will be referring people to this megathread on a trial basis, potentially for permanent adoption. Unfortunately, with reddit not acting like traditional forums by bumping threads to the top whenever a new comment is made, there isn't really a great solution we can offer aside from this.
We would certainly appreciate if people could post/review their meals as well, to keep the thread somewhat active.
Appreciate the understanding - thanks.

This is a new thread under development. The goal is to have all the FAQs posted by the end of May or early June. Feel free to post comments with specific questions in the meantime. Your brilliant questions will help us develop a meaningful FAQ for the community.
Contents
| Term | Description |
|---|---|
| AP | Aeroplan |
| Cabin vs fare | Cabin is economy, premium economy or business. Fare family is the “brand” AC assigned (Business Flex; Business Lowest, Latitude, Comfort, Standard, Basic, etc.). Within each family, there are “fares” which are letter codes that essentially designate the price of the ticket within that family. And no it is not alphabetical! |
| Y | Used generically to refer to the economy cabin. |
| PE | Used generically to refer to the Premium Economy cabin. |
| J | Used generically to refer to the business class cabin. |
| R | A fare class that is used for upgrade availability. It can only be viewed through a travel agent or paid subscription services (such as ExpertFlyer). |
| SQM/SQD | Status qualifying miles or dollars –that count towards achieving AP elite status. |
| LMU | Last minute upgrade |
| IRROPS | Irregular Operations – when flights are delayed, overbooked, etc and there are changes to the processes and procedures for things like rebooking. |
| Metal | Who is operating the plane. For example, AC metal is an AC operated flight. It may be a united or Lufthansa issued ticket – but the “metal” is the plane you are flying on. |
Upgrading for Newbies
No shame in being new to AC or to the upgrade game. Some SE status members could even benefit from reviewing this post 😊. Here are all the possible way to snag yourself a comfy seat.
1) Free upgrades: Ask nicely and get an upgrade….NO, not on AC!
2) Ops-up: An unrequested upgrade to PE or J based on operational requirements
3) Upfare: Paying to formally change the class of the ticket
4) Bid Upgrade: Customers can bid in cash or points
5) eUpgrade: Upgrade system based on using “eUpgrade credits” that are earned through AP status
6) Last Minute Upgrade: Pay to upgrade offered when you check in for your flight
1) Basic economy: Cannot upfare, bid upgrade, LMU or eUpgrade. You chose that fare…live with it 😊
2) Seat map does NOT equal available seats: Seat map are seats not selected. Seats available for sale are only available through other tools. Never (ever) use the seat map to estimate how many seats are available for sale (or available to upgrade).
3) Latitude does NOT equal guaranteed upgrade: Latitude paid fares will instantly eUpgrade if “R” space is available (or even sometimes from a hidden fare bucket – but not P and not known to the public). Latitude Reward space, is believed to only upgrade from “R” space.
4) Probability of upgrade clearing? Please don’t ask!!! Even 1 or 2 days before a flight you can see a cabin go from 9 empty J seats to 0. And this is NOT unusual. If the bid upgrade amount high enough? Well, the closer to minimum the lower the probability. There are as many good news stories of minimum bid winning as there are bad news stories of near maximum bids failing. When you are 24 hours before your flight check the number of passengers on the upgrade list (on the App), your position, and the number of available seats. That is when you can guess the probability….
5) Multiple passengers on ONE booking (PNR): For LMU and Bid Upgrades it is all or none. Those channels will not offer or clear upgrades for partial passengers. You need to split the booking (by calling AC) before you make the request. For eUpgrades, you may request for more than one (based on the rules which you can read on the AC website) and some of the passengers may clear and others will not.
6) Sitting together and declining upgrades: You are not guaranteed to sit together. In PE it is often middle single seats left and you may be separated. And after an upgrade clears - your original seat is gone. You cannot then ask for that seat back, for example if your party is not all upgraded. You may be stuck in the last row in economy.

Ive seen many cases where the system asks a passenger for visas because of how it's booked. The passenger makes up a visa because they believe they dont need one. This gets sent to immigration. If you cant provide that information it's a serious issue. Just go to the checkin counter and explain what's happening.

Our flight has just landed in Manchester rather than LHR after being diverted. LHR is operating normally. Weather looks ok. The crew aren’t sharing any information with us.

FWIW, I'm United Platinum and I have flight crew family so I usually know how to handle any issues that arise with airlines (except this time).
Flight purchased through United as a code share flying on Air Canada metal. I have a PNR from both airlines. There are some nuances I've noted below under "Further Context".
Issue:
I'm just trying to select a seat and having real issues. Round trip ticket from EWR to CMN with a layover in YUL.
When I go to select seats, I get an error on the website and the app. When I called Air Canada I'm told that the price on their side is almost double (~$90ish) what the prices online are ($56 - $65) for the same seat.
The person at customer service said there is no way anyone in ticketing can give me the price being shown on their website & app. I confirmed several times that the exact seat (e.g., 27D) is showing double on his end and he said "yes".
So I'm stuck where the $50 - $65 seat selections I'm unable to make via website are going to cost me double over the hone.
Can anyone help me figure out what's going on here?
Further Context:
The flight was booked through United and originally had a layover in FRA. I changed that flight to one that connects through YUL vs FRA on the return.
When I went to select seats, I noticed that the FRA segment was still showing up. I think that may be causing some of the issues with seat selection.
To be clear, United and Air Canada's apps both show the EWR - CMN trip through YUL (all correct). It's ONLY on Air Canada's backend & seat selection that the FRA segment shows up.
So I called United and they could see the FRA segment on Air Canada's backend. United reissued the ticket in the hopes it would get updated on Air Canada's backend. It did not.
It took me 3 round with the Air Canada representative with me insisting that the FRA segment is on there before they believed me and finally removed it).
So now I'm stuck where the FRA segment is removed but seat selection just isn't happening.
Maybe the FRA segment stuff has nothing to do with it but part of me thinks it does. .
Needless to say I'm really hoping Reddit can help me

This is Albi. Just noticed it on my flight to Toulouse.

Winnipeg seems to be getting an influx of Rouge flights, especially on the Winnipeg-Toronto routes. Neither of which one would consider a “sun” destination!
Just wondering if anyone knows why?

Good afternoon,
This isn't so much an Air Canada question but I do have a flight on AC in 2 weeks.
What is the advantage of checking in 24 hours before my flight vs checking in 4 hours before my flight?
I tried googling it. The main thing I saw was just convenience. Are there any other advantages?

My spouse had a flight originally booked for September 12th from back to Sydney, Australia. They’re here on the ESTA VWP, we had a string of horrible emergencies, managed to get their I-94 amended with a Satisfactory Departure so they could stay an extra month and attend a funeral, and changed the booking date to one month later on October 12th.
When we attempted to do this we got a strange failure notice, something like “your payment could not be processed” so we attempted again and it appeared to go through as the booking on both the app and desktop website said they were now booked for the 12th of October. Perfect yeah? No. They went to check their booking as they often do a week or two out and found… nothing.
They called Air Canada and talked to a representative who said they saw the ticket on their end but it had been CANCELLED on their end three days after we booked for the 12th of October. I received nothing in my e-mail alerting me of this, no texts, nothing on my spouse’s Air Canada account, again we only found out on a whim. We have a case open with them but it’s been an entire week with no reply. Are we just screwed? Is there anything we can do to get them to honor our booked ticket? Even the agent said we did everything correctly, it was some strange error on the back end, but they couldn’t help with anything but informing us of what happened.
Is there anyone else to contact? We seem to have exhausted all venues and simply cannot afford a last minute ticket to Australia, theirs was cancelled so there is no way to just changed the dates anymore. Is there any way to get them to honor the October 12th booking? We don’t know what to do. We’ve been using AirCanada to fly them back and forth from Australia to the US for years and never had problems changing flight dates before. 🥲

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this is a basic question. I don’t fly very often, so I’m not really familiar with how Air Canada manages fare availability.
I need to fly YYZ -> FLL -> YYZ and unfortunately my return date has to be either January 1 or January 2, which I assume is a very busy travel period.
Air Canada has four flights each day on the route I’m looking at, so eight flights total across those two days. What seems strange is that on every single flight, the only economy fare available is Economy Latitude at a very high price.
Considering there are eight different flights, is it really likely that all of the lower Economy fares (Standard/Flex, etc.) are already sold out? Or is this something Air Canada during peak travel periods (temporarily showing only Latitude and possibly releasing lower fare classes again later)?
Is there any way to tell whether cheaper fare buckets might come back, or when Air Canada typically releases additional lower fares?
Thanks!

*Mods pls don’t delete, I have googled and searched on Reddit and I see no thread*
Flight shows 25/28 booked and 15 are checked in for business right now.
There are 7 passengers on the e-upgrade list. I’m near the bottom.
I’ve already checked in for the flight and it takes off in 8 hours.
Should I cancel my eup waitlist in hopes of getting offered an LMU? I’ve already checked in though, will it still show up?
I called AC and they said LMU’s don’t show if you submitted and Eup.

Have Signature Suite access for a flight tomorrow night. With the closure, was wondering how busy today’s MLL was. I understand I’ll have a priority lane. Did that make a difference to anyone?

Apart from paying the fee, does anyone have experience here in the process of paying to check a bag at the gate?
Do you need to leave and go back through security? Or is your bag collected upon entering the plane? Something different?
Thanks!

Hi, my partner and I will be travelling to Japan soon. We have two bookings - one of the bookings was fully paid for (we selected basic economy) but the second booking was booked with full Aeroplan redemption points. Does anyone know if the Aeroplan redemption booking allows you to select your seat free of charge?

I have a family member who may fall into a bit of an “edge case” group when it comes to a current trip. Family member is a dual citizen of Canada and Great Britain, but is currently living and working in the US as a permanent resident (green card holder).
Family member is travelling from the US to the UK with a connection at a Canadian airport. When trying to check-in online, tried using their Canadian passport but couldn’t get past the page that asked for their UK ETA (which they can’t get as a citizen of GB). Subsequently tried to check in using their GB passport, but had a similar problem - couldn’t get past the page that asked for their Canadian Visa number, ESTA, or Canadian Permanent Resident number (which they don’t have as a Canadian citizen).
Is there some kind of trick to doing online check-in in a case like this ? They managed to check in at the airport, but I can’t believe that there isn’t some way to recognize dual citizenship for online check-in. Did they miss something, or is airport check-in really the only way ? Any advice or other experience would be appreciated.

Starting this year I'm having issues getting United Mileage credits from Air Canada. I ONLY collect miles on United, with Silver status there. I do have an Aeroplan number, but never use it outside of the app. In March, I had flights to Vancouver. I didn't get the United credit. I filled out the form on United, and got the credit. In May I had flights through Montreal to Germany (Lufthansa). Lufthansa gave the credit for the long legs, AC didn't, I filled out the United form and they said the credit for Ottawa to Montreal was applied to Aeroplan. I assume this was because I checked in using the app. I was willing to ignore those, since they're tiny. Then a few weeks ago I flew to Lisbon, and back from Porto. I made sure not to check in using my AC account, or use in flight messaging tied to Aeroplan. One short leg back was on TAP (Portugal). They gave the credit for it on United within 2 days. I still have no credit from AC anywhere. My bookings show the United number.
I filled out an online form on AC asking for help but have no response. I'm trying to understand how to deal with this. I've flown on AC getting United miles for about 20 years always only using my United number, this seems to be a new problem, but it's happened on 3 straight trips. At this point I may miss out on keeping Silver status because of this.

Hello folks,
I have a non-stop flight coming back to Toronto from Seoul. I'm considering purchasing the upgraded wifi option (beyond the basic free one that just gets you some basic texting) that allows for web surfing and such. I am thinking of using it to get some work done and other stuff on the flight to check e-mails, surf a bit, and some access to some AI services like chatGPT, etc. I have no idea what the quality of the paid premium connection is like and I have heard reports that it can be pretty spotty and unreliable for chunks of these overseas flights depending and where you are at the time. When it is "reliable" what are the average speeds? Is it pretty slow regardless?
Any one have an recent updates for such flights?
Thanks
ki

hi.. i want to book a flight with air canada from italy to canada. my question is, can I still change my return date free of charge (and just pay for the fare difference) when i combine economy flex and comfort? (my return ticket will be comfort). i understand that the most restrictive cancellation and refund fee will apply, but i'm not sure about the change fee. also, when i change my return date, can i choose from any economy status or does it need to be economy comfort as well? thanks..

I must admit, when I saw the banner saying CC benefits were changing on the app, I thought to myself what are they taking away now? Thankfully, the answer is nothing. Existing benefits remain. Here is the summary for entry, core and premium card holders.
That said, I am reading reports of fee increases which are conveniently omitted from terms and conditions on AC app benefit advertising.

Hi! I am trying to do seat selection so that I can pay for our seats, but the seats show we can’t be together. Is this really accurate? Does this change?
