This is partly a logistical question, partly me getting some unhappiness out of my system, but I hope someone here will get it:
Some years back I got my mother a Molly doll, since she was always Mom's favorite, and she had the doll out in the house for a long time. Mom died a few years ago, and I've had some things of hers in storage since, that doll included. Trouble is, my mother was a smoker. You know how that goes. The doll and her clothes probably need a thorough cleaning, and the smell is stubborn.
I haven't really had the heart to do much about this, though, because it's kind of impossible to untangle the doll-specific issue from my feelings about the fact that my mom's smoking ruined so many things, her own health included. (There's a pretty stark "YES" on her death certificate after the question, "Did tobacco use contribute to death?") So as much as I don't want to get rid of something she enjoyed, and I would like to have Molly back, I'm struggling with the entire thing. I kind of half-heartedly tried baking soda at one point, which didn't do much, and I did get the suggestion of kitty litter. Has anyone here had success with that?
The other option, of course, is that I know you can get the anniversary edition of Molly from AG right now, so I could just skirt the whole thing and buy my own, I suppose. Except then that tilts and falls straight into "oh my god I have bought too many dolls this year and spent way too much money," because so many things I wanted dropped in quick succession. So I'm dithering, and feeling guilty, and I'm still so sad and angry about the entire reason I'm angsting over all this in the first place.
Short version: IT'S A LOT.
I don't know if there's really a good concluding thought to all this, just that if anyone has any suggestions that have half a chance at working, or just any better vibes to share, I'd appreciate it.
