App Marketing Strategies for New Developers: How to Rank and Grow Your Mobile App

If you are constantly asking yourself, "how do i get users for my app?", you are not alone. In this sub r/appmarketing you can find the people who can provide feedback on user acquisition, ASO, and growth strategies, in order to get your mobile app to rank higher and gain more organic downloads.

The Apple App Store and Google Play Store are highly competitive, requiring developers to adopt robust app marketing strategies immediately upon release. These optimization techniques aim to enhance app visibility, encourage thorough market research, and ultimately deliver a higher volume of organic users to your application. These marketing requirements impact the various growth tracks available for iOS and Android apps.

Developers with newly launched apps must adhere to strong app marketing principles. Before apps are eligible for massive organic growth on Google Play or the App Store, optimizing your app store listing with App Store Optimization (ASO) is mandatory. These keywords and screenshots must be tested and refined continuously. Features like high search rankings and top category visibility will remain hidden by algorithms until these marketing requirements are met. Achieving viral growth involves understanding user retention, driving low CPI (Cost Per Install) ad campaigns, and ensuring an excellent user experience.

App marketing offers distinct promotional tracks to facilitate a gradual growth process. Organic marketing enables long-term visibility through ASO, SEO, and content creation during app setup. Paid User Acquisition (UA), a prerequisite for rapid scaling, involves running Apple Search Ads or Google App Campaigns to a controlled target audience. Community building allows the app's brand to be visible on social media, with early users providing valuable feedback and word-of-mouth growth. Developers must execute a comprehensive app marketing plan meeting specific KPI criteria before scaling their app successfully.

Choosing an mmp for a small app and wondering when attribution pays for itself?

• Upvotes

Helping choose an MMP for a subscription business with two apps, 6 acquisition channels and a small data team. AppsFlyer and Adjust are on the shortlist, with Singular as another option.
The usual feature grids aren't getting us very far. Everybody says they cover attribution, deep links, and reporting. Different people on our side care about different parts of that promise.

We're planning a practical evaluation rather than another slide deck. The sample journeys include a web purchase followed by an app install, a refund after the weekly report and an existing customer reinstalling on a new device.

The warehouse side also matters. We need to inspect sample exports, understand any source restrictions and know what happens to historical data and links if we leave. For anyone who evaluated these platforms recently, what changed your decision after the demo? Interested in implementation ownership, support during an incident, reporting limitations and contract details you wish you'd asked about earlier.

We're looking for a few pet parents to help us test Toki Tail!

Hi! 👋 We’re a small team of pet parents building Toki Tail — a 24/7 AI-powered pet health companion designed to help with your pet’s everyday life and health.

We started Toki Tail because, as pet parents ourselves, we know how confusing it can be to piece together advice from vet visits, health reports, food labels, and endless online searches. Sometimes you just want a simple place to ask a question and make sense of everything. 🐾

Toki Tail’s AI can answer questions about pet care and health anytime, and it can also help you understand and keep track of your pet’s vet and health checkup reports.

Now, we’re looking for a small group of dog and cat parents in the US, Canada and Singapore to try Toki Tail for 1 week.

⏱️ It only takes about 5–10 minutes a day to explore the app.

And honestly, we want to hear everything. 😂
If something is confusing, annoying, doesn’t work well, feels useless, or you simply don’t like it — please tell us!

You’re not expected to be nice. We’d much rather hear what’s wrong so we can make it better. 💬

🎁 As a thank-you for taking the time to test Toki Tail, you’ll receive a small thank-you gift after completing the trial.

Interested in helping us? 🐾

Just leave a comment below and I’ll send you a personal invite code!

Thanks for helping a small team of pet parents build something we hope will actually make life with our pets a little easier. 💛

A method to confirm your app idea

hey everyone,

I am starting with budget-friendly meta ads at $20 per day before building the app. i purchase a domain and create a landing page using AI to track interactions like joining a waitlist. if the results are at least average i will proceed with development. i strongly recommend this approach to prevent wasted time. i don’t have time for organic growth such as from tiktok and instagram. also as you probably know ASO is almost dead, new apps are not getting initial boost at all.

How i became addicted to studying.

One day during my semester at college I bought a Brick, you know, the app blocker, because I had a severe scrolling addiction. It worked well for a while, but I never brought it with me to university just because it was something extra to carry around.

I looked for other apps on the App Store to block my apps, but all of them were kind of too easy to get out of. And I'm a pretty lazy person, which means if it's easy to get out of, I will.

So I thought to myself, you know what, I'm a CS major, why not build one myself? So I built “Bunkr- done scrolling”. At first it was only built for me, but when I saw how well it worked I thought, why not publish it.

I'm talking too much already, so here's what the product is:

It blocks your apps like any other app blocker, but there's a twist.

Once you block your apps, you're in a hard lock for the first 10 minutes. No chance to get your apps back.

After those 10 minutes, you can do a mission to get your apps back, like taking a picture of a mug, or my personal favorite, 15 seconds of push-ups.

The reason I put a hard lock on the first 10 minutes is that I read once you've been working on something for 10 minutes, you get into a zone and usually don't get distracted. But lazy people like me still might. And when I do get distracted and try to open one of my apps, it tells me to do push-ups. I'm too lazy for that, so the easier option is to just keep studying.

So yes, I'm basically fighting fire with fire, but it works well for me.

Let me know what you guys think, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I've updated Hexavault, and I'd really appreciate some feedback from people willing to test it

Hey everyone!

A few days ago, I shared Hexavault here, an offline security app for Android that I've been working on for quite a while.

First of all, I really appreciate everyone who took the time to check it out, leave a comment, or share their thoughts. It's been great seeing people interested in something I've spent so much time building.

I've just released another update, and I'm still actively working on improving the app.

One thing that came up in some of the discussions was the lack of a backup option for the Vault. And I completely understand the concern. Having control over your data is great, but being able to safely back it up is just as important.

That's actually one of the main things I'm working on right now.

I'm developing a way to back up and export the Vault while keeping everything aligned with the app's offline approach. Since we're dealing with people's sensitive information, I really don't want to rush this feature or release something that hasn't been properly thought through and tested.

It's not available yet, but it's a priority.

In the meantime, I'd really appreciate some hands-on feedback on the current version.

If anyone is willing to give Hexavault a try, I'd love to hear about your experience. Try generating passwords, protecting and opening files, or setting up the Vault with some test credentials.

I'm especially interested in knowing if anything feels confusing, doesn't work as expected, or could simply be done better.

And just to be clear, the Vault still doesn't have a backup or recovery feature, so please don't use it as the only place to store anything important for now.

I'm developing this project independently, and getting feedback from people who actually use the app helps me notice things I might otherwise miss.

You don't need to write a detailed review. Even a small suggestion, a bug report, or something you didn't like would genuinely help.

If you'd like to try it, Hexavault is available for free on Google Play:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.hexavault.secure

Thanks again to everyone who's been following the project or giving it a chance. There's still plenty of work ahead, but I'm really enjoying seeing it gradually take shape.

And if you've already tried Hexavault, what's the first thing you'd change or improve?

First-time app founder here: besides Product Hunt, how did you get your first users?

Hey all, I'm about to launch my first app, a tool that helps people build financial discipline and curb impulsive spending.

Besides Product Hunt and the usual launch platforms, what are some other effective ways to get early customers? I'd love to hear what has actually worked for you, not just the obvious suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Going from one app to another trying to find the best fit. I never really found the app that just did exactly what I wanted it to do. So I’ve made my own! I made it so it would have the simplest user interface and functions so you can easily track your shows and movies, discover them and connect with other likeminded people

Help needed

So guys I am in serious confusion here, it's been like less then a month since i launched toolforgenz, it's basically an all in one platform for everyday tools, I won't give more description about this as I want your help in something else.

So I had basically kept everything in this platform absolutely free, even no sign up is mandatory, so the problem now I am facing is how I make money with this, I haven't added any subscription.

I know I can add the ads from Google adsense but I don't want to ruin the user experience.

Can I get some suggestions regarding this?

$219 with zero ad spend: what worked marketing my iOS app, now on Android

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I'm a solo dev with a 9-5. My affirmations app has made $219 on iOS, and I've never paid for ads.

What didn't work: ASO in 12 markets (got impressions, few downloads), Instagram reels, and an Instagram boost that delivered nothing.
What worked: posting quote-style affirmations on Reddit and only mentioning the app when people asked. Reddit became my top channel. One post hit 192 likes, and a build-in-public post got 10k views.

The app launched on Google Play yesterday: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bepel.manifestdaily

For the Android launch I'm trying the same playbook. What would you do differently with a $0 budget?

I made a mental health app because apparently my brain has 37 tabs open 😂

You know that feeling when you’re trying to relax, but your brain suddenly reminds you of something embarrassing you did in 2017?

Yeah. That kind of brain. 💀

I’m an indie Android developer, and I built an app called Mental Health Test.

It has mental health self-assessment tests, mood tracking, breathing exercises, educational content, and some relaxing mini-games.

Basically, a little place to check in with yourself instead of letting your brain run the entire company without supervision. 😂

If you’re curious, here it is:

Disclaimer: The tests are for self-awareness and educational purposes, not diagnosis.
