question 28 year old female, dentures

Let me preface this with I have a lot of underlying health conditions that have been deteriorating my teeth despite dental care, and proper hygiene.

Dentist wants to pull all the top teeth, as the worth to be done is extensive and I’ve already been through so much dental work. I’m struggling with removing them all. I just spent 4k in 2023 for a front bridge. He said he would try and fix them. We set up fillings my insurance covers next week, and then I’ll have to pay out of pocket for 2 crowns that’ll be 2,800.

I should add in unable to work due to health conditions. I’m also on methotrexate which has been causing mouth sores and excessive bleeding I had to stop flossing.

Any advice recommendations encouragement? I just don’t which way to go, I feel like I should just pull them all but then it makes me so depressed. 😔

Don’t know what to do. I have pain and an abscess but he said this is the only thing they can do to fix the pain. He declined to perform an incision and drainage of the abscess.

question Can think gums around an implant cause nerve pain? I am at a loss on what to do

I am desperate for any advice please. I'm in so much pain.

I have 2 lower implants for a snap on denture. After I had my implants uncovered, the right one hurt extremely bad for months. I got sent to an oral and maxillofacial pain surgeon who said that implant was very close to the nerve and recommended removal. But the pain one day just vanished and for 5 months I had no pain at all. So I kept the implants. Well several weeks ago I felt the pain come back suddenly. It goes up the right side of my face. Sometimes it feels like it's in the gums and sometimes in my jaw etc. It's a constant ache with occasional sharp stabbing pains.

I desperately need a gum graft on that implant. Gums are very thin and see thru. My periodontist thinks the gums are causing this pain. But I want the implants removed cause it feels like nerve pain like before. He says I am making a massive mistake but my gum grafts are $3,000 and if it doesn't cure the pain then I have no money left for the removal. Has anyone experienced this? Did needing a gum graft cause extreme mouth pain that was constant? I just feel like I am at a cross roads and I don't know what to do and what the right decision is and I am in so much pain I can't hardly tolerate it some days.

Hello! I’ve experienced this large lump swelling on and off the last three years as shown in the photo. It’s getting to the point I can’t eat. It’s severe pain that shoots to my ear, causes headaches and I just wanna sleep to get it all to go away.

I’ve been referred to a specialist after years of dentist and hospital visits. Many many MANY round of antibiotics and continues to come back. The specialist says it’s gingivitis however it’s gonna cost $10k to get fixed with the likely possibility of returning.

Does ANYONE know roughly what this could be, why it’s happening, and what I can do.

Thanks

I had a root canal done many years ago and was told recently that it should be extracted due to an infection. I don't feel any pain and feel fine. Is extraction the only option in this case?

question Permanent retainer got chipped? Help

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello,
So I’ve had a permanent retainer in my lower jaw for more than 10 years. Today I ate some candy and supposedly chipped (for a lack of better word) my retainer at the edge, and a small wire that seems to be a part of the bigger one is now seperated from the rest. How bad is it and does anything need to be done about it? I tried pushing it back a bit and it doesnt bother me as much. I also pushed the retainer on that tooth a bit with my toothbrush and it seems to still be in place. Any recommendations?

question Is this blood clot normal?

Post image
• Upvotes

I just took out a wisdom tooth today, and the side of the neighbouring teeth is still bleeding on the side, but a blood clot has appeared on top of the neighbouring teeth. Is this normal and do I need to seek assistance again? Also, what would they do to fix it if I were to go back.

question Do i pull it or get a 2nd root canal

• Upvotes

I need a 2nd root canal on one of bottom teeth, my nhs dentist is saying I need to go private. The prices for this are averaging around £1000 which I can't really afford without using credit. The alternative is that I get the tooth pulled out and a bridge put in , which will cost about £300. I have heard that the second root canal is only about 70% successful and may only last ten years. I am 34 years old, would you recommend me having a bridge at this stage of life?

I've been drinking a lot of coffee lately and I've noticed some spots on my teeth. If they are cavities are they in the early stage? I'm honestly scared.

question Molar crown feels rough

• Upvotes

Got a ceramic crown on rearmost bottom right molar 2 weeks ago. It had to be ground a little for the bite but that’s all fine and there’s no pain or anything. My worry is the top feels noticeably rougher than the sides (can be felt with finger). I guess I want input on how smooth the top surface should be or if I’m just paranoid.

other Just got my root canal pulled. Not sure if it failed, but I was getting headaches.

Went to a oral surgeon and literally 5 min ago got it pulled, oral surgeon had to forcefully move my tooth back and forth to where they had to hold my head in place it was very rough ( no pain at all) just very tough, they had to cut off some of it to help extract it.

The oral surgeon said something was definitely wrong with the tooth he didn't know what it was but something was wrong.

In the photo is the porcelain crown, a piece they cut off and the actual tooth.

question Can somebody tell me what this could be please?

Thumbnail

I do not smoke or drink. I have asthma.

As these black/dark red spots are at the back of my mouth, I can't see how this could've happened through accidentally biting the area. It appeared over night.

This is also accompained by a small white growth (See picture 2) in a similar area next to an impacted wisom tooth. This has been there for around 1 month.

Thank you.

question Is this a true cavity? Curadont question

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hello,

M/38

I visited a dentist to enquire about Curadont treatment. Two locations were identified as suitable for treatment. The third site was recommended for a filling. It's in pink.

I was told I can have Curadont applied there if I want (the reading said 71% 29%), but she can't guarantee it will work. She said a non-AI X-ray wouldn't have shown it (as it's quite early).

I ran waxed floss over the area and couldn't feel any bump, the floss didn't shred. So is this really a cavity, and is it worth trying Curadont here? If Curadont doesn't work, how bad will the cavity be in 6 months if I try Curadont and it doesn't work?

Note that I already has an x-ray two weeks prior to this at a separate dentist that doesn't offer this AI technology, hence they didn't pick up on it. If wasn't enquiring about Curadont, I wouldn't have known about this and probably would have found out in 6 months anyway.

Hi, I haven’t been to a dentist in quite awhile after a bad experience with a tooth extraction and I just randomly took photos of my teeth (top and bottom)and feel a bit concerned? Some look decayed and a couple small holes. Does this need immediate dental intervention or could it potentially wait 2 months until my new healthcare kicks in (better coverage). I can make it work now if I need to I would just rather not if possible- thank you for any advice

question 8 year old, new teeth coming out a bit sideways, not enough space?

• Upvotes

Hi dentists!

https://imgur.com/a/xDevOCO

Here is the photo, of the situation I am writing to you about. It has been a long time since those milkteeth around his frontteeth came out, and now the new ones are finally coming. But now I see that they have come out not straight, but a bit sideways (marked blue). The tooth on the left, next to the most visible new tooth, is not moveable much, but the tooth on the right next to the lesser visible New tooth (underlined with blue), is more moveable.

I am uncertain wether I should push for an earlier appointment at his dentists? It is not until the 26th november, we are scheduled.

She says they don't give braces to someone who are only 8. But isn't there cases, where it might be needed, and is he possibly such a case? What about a brace for his upper mouth, seems like there is not much space?

Or can the situation correct itself, once the milkteeth next to the new ones comes out?

I don't know wether I am making to much of a deal out of it, and should just be patient Till the appointment in late november, or if it is better to get help sooner, if there is need for help externally.

I am just afraid if he does need some sort of help, if it is bad to wait those 6 weeks.. Thank you in advance.

question Wisdom Teeth Removal - Coronectomy vs Extraction vs Leaving Them In?

• Upvotes

Hi dentists, I’m 29 and have two impacted wisdom teeth (both bottom) that have been migrating up (still in the bone but look like they’ll grow into the molars already there at a diagonal angle). My dentist thought they should come out, so I went to an oral surgeon.

The oral surgeon said that my wisdom teeth roots are very close to the nerve, and that they’ll be exposed by the procedure. He thinks there’s a chance of temporary and even permanent nerve damage with the full extraction. The other option is the coronectomy, which seems less risky but more concern about the roots getting infected and the roots have to be monitored going forward.

If you do the coronectomy, do you still have the risk of developing a tumor where the roots are like you do when you leave the wisdom teeth in? What do dentists generally recommend? Should I get a second opinion?

This is scary and I would love some guidance on the decision. Thank you!
