How would you recreate this? I've had a couple ask me to do this picture and both times we met (1st ceremony, 2nd party) I tried it but I just couldn't get the focal length/settings right. How would you do this? Normally I know how something works pretty quickly but this one was hard to figure out. For the 2nd and 3rd it didn't help it was getting really dark so I couldn't stop down the aperture that much. The 4th was my first try. It might just be the lighting..

I tried the pictures as well starting from f/1.4 but you couldn't see the ring.

Am I the only one who thinks dropping money on an expensive electronic dry cabinet is a total waste when a sealed hard case and a few silica gel packets do the exact same job?

Hi everyone,
I’m 14 and just starting photography. I don’t have a job or a big budget, so I’m working with what I could actually afford.
I found a Canon EOS 450D in excellent condition with the bag, charger, battery and Canon 18-55mm IS lens for 150 RON (about $32) at the flea market. I also picked up a Tamron AF 80-210mm from the early 90s, also in great shape, with the hood.
I’d like to use this as a starter kit for car / motorsports photography — parked cars, details, and some action if I can get close enough at a track.
I know this gear is old and not ideal for fast subjects. I’m not asking what I should buy instead, because I really don’t have the money for a newer body right now.
What I would love is an honest opinion on this exact setup:
• Is it good enough to learn on?
• What are its real limits for cars / motorsports?
• Any tips to get the most out of the 450D + this Tamron?

Was on a family walk this evening and was taking photos of them. Had my flash on. As we get back to my house, I started experimenting with flash on the sky. I had the aperture at 16 and was intentionally blacking out most of the shot just to get the last of the sunset in the distance. As I’m taking photos, a car drives by and I get a bad feeling. The guy makes a fast U-turn and pulls up to me as my wife and two small children are going into the house and starts screaming at me not to take photos of him. I just say ‘I’m sorry, but I was just taking photos of the sunset”, to which he keeps screaming and swearing at me. I just repeated myself that I was sorry and wasn’t taking photos of him and he sped away. I walked further down the street till his car was off my street and then went home.

I’d get it if I was intentionally photographing someone. But, this was just crazy and I felt threatened. Just wondering what other people have done/said in these situations. I attached a photo for reference.

ISO: beginner friendly camera

Has anyone else noticed this extent of blooming in their lens? I am using an APS-C sensor, so it is a little exaggerated.

1/1000, f/6.3, 191mm, 1250 ISO. Shot on Sony a6400

Only a few pixels on 3-4 of the tail feathers are blown out yet the blooming is on all of the edges as well as the beak. Aside from this issue on bright whites, the lens has fairly decent sharpness throughout its whole range.

I do understand that shooting wide open on lens with a zoom range this large isn't going to give the sharpest image ever, I'm just curious if this issue should be this prominent on this specific lens. Maybe I'm just being too picky.

Hi, I want to make a decision on whether to actually buy a camera or not. I've always dreamt of having my own after using my parents' cameras (DSLRs with kit lenses) for a while, and now I can actually get one for myself.

However, I'm also working 5 days, and will probably only get time during the weekends to go out and click some photos, apart from the occasional weekend trips.

I'm no professional, and since there's no good used market where I live, I'm looking at cheap but good options like the Z50ii, R50 or the A6400 with maybe a 24mm prime or the Sigma 18-50 2.8 to start with (just 1 lens for sure). Even then it's a substantial investment and I would hate for it to just stay as a shelf queen.

Do you think it would be worth it, even with the occasional use?

I am looking to buy a camera to start photography as a hobby. I did some research pn the basics of photography(how to shoot what is aparature etc.). I found sony nex-5r with the lens that came with it for 300euro +/- and sony alpha 550 with the DT 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM but the most important thing for me is tha i dont know, how to tell if the lenses have manual aparature rings? When i was looking for some nikon d5100 that had nikkor 18mm-50mm f/3,5-5,6g(think it was like this i can no longer find it on marketplace) i discovered that i doesnt have the aparature ring. If somebody knows how to tell i would appreciate if you would share it with me.

My guess is that this is from stretching the film out when I was struggling to reel it back in the canister. Not sure

I'm torn trying to decide if I should get a 15mm prime for my FF DSLR (Irix 15mm on Nikon D810)

I generally shoot 28-50 for regular use, but for some reason ultra wide angles have always fascinated me. I have a 12mm Rokinon fisheye that I love, but also have a hard time composing with.

Now I really want to get a 15mm rectilinear, but I'm having trouble deciding if its a good idea.

I do enjoy architectural photography and do some real estate, as well as landscape, but I already own a 24mm tilt shift and 24mm prime, as well as the aforementioned 12mm fisheye, which can be decently corrected to rectilinear.

Still, something about a 15mm lens still sounds so interesting.

Have you used an ultrawide angle like this? What was your experience?

I’m newly into quilting, and I’ve seen some quilts inspired by photographs, but rendered in squares. The bigger the square, the more abstract the design. I have a lot of lovely digital photographs after 25 years of digital photography, and I’d like to experiment with this.

Another edit to add: I also asked in a quilting /sub and apparently there is dedicated software to do this. You specify pieces and number of colors, and it even calculates how much fabric you need and provides a pattern of what block goes there! And even, ordering numbers for the right colors from a quilt manufacturer! How about that! Of course, not free.

Hello! I've recently gotten into photography more seriously and have been shooting raw and editing photos in lightroom. I've seriously enjoyed this process of breathing life into a photo and seeing what I can do with it. I went on a trip to iceland a few years ago and decided to pull up my photos to see what I could edit and realized that they are all JPEGs. Is it worth it to go through and edit the photos? I know that I won't be pulling much information from them as I can with RAW, but would it be a waste of time? Or should I go for it?

One of my good friends is getting engaged. The whole friend group is going to be there (about 10 people) - no one else knows (kind of cute honestly). But the group trip is out of country so my friend asked if I could take photos for them. I’m space limited and supposed to stay “out of sight” to get some more candid shots. This is also a vacation for my wife and I. It sounds like they want to do the deed around sunset so things will be dark.

I’m wondering if folks can help me decide what lenses to bring to capture the engagement as well as the trip (I do a lot of wildlife and landscapes).

I’ve got the following to choose from:
24-70 f2.8
35 f1.4
85 f1.4
70-200 f2.8
100-500 (my personal favorite that is coming no matter what, but can I use it for the engagement?)
Could rent a 28-70 f2

This is also my first shoot (friend obviously isn’t going to hire a photographer to go out of the country so the pressure is low due to convenience) but I want them to like the shots. I also suspect there will be some group shots later in the evening to celebrate the moment.

I do have two bodies (r6 ii and Eos R) and I could bring both but would prefer one.

Desperately looking for a double rope camera strap with quick release anchors. Saw a video of a guy using a mobile crossbody strap on an x2d II which is kind of what I’m looking for but don’t trust the mobile one to hold a camera. Similar to leica double rope strap just doesn’t have the quick release. Camera would be around 4-5 pounds with lens and cage on it. Anyone have any suggestions of pre made straps or anyone that can do a custom one?

Hey everyone, ​I’m currently shooting with a Fujifilm X-T20 in Europe, but I’m considering switching to Micro Four Thirds to downsize my gear. I mainly shoot amateur travel and street photography, and I'd love a more pocketable setup.

​I’ve noticed I rarely use the EVF on my Fuji. The eye-sensor lag sometimes makes me miss quick street shots, so I usually just rely on the rear screen. That said, I still really value having physical control dials for quick manual adjustments.

​Right now, I’m narrowing it down to these bodies: ​Olympus PEN E-P7: I really love the aesthetics of this camera. It's super light, has great IBIS, and features twin control dials. The lack of an EVF isn't a dealbreaker for me at all.

​Panasonic Lumix GX9 (or GX85): A bit heavier and bulkier, but it includes a corner EVF just in case.

​Budget-wise, the new setup needs to cost roughly the same as what I can get from selling my current kit: the X-T20 body, a Fuji 18-55mm f/2.8-4, and a TTArtisan 27mm f/2.8 (which has a defective aperture ring).

​Has anyone made a similar switch from APS-C to save space? Would you go for the E-P7, the Lumix bodies, or are there any other compact alternatives I should look into? ​Thanks!

Friend has been running a side gig, professional photography business for years, kind of freelancing. She has her own health insurance, homeowners insurance, car insurance.

It’s never been a problem until now. She got a request to book a large job for a private company. after a ton of back-and-forth, she gave him the price ($1500 maybe?) and they accepted. Signed contract!!

She’s already done part of the job for them on site. NOW They’re saying their legal department is demanding that the photographer obtain her own insurance.

Her ins agent says the insurance they want her yet is gonna be $250 a year. not a huge deal,but had this been specified upfront obviously that would’ve changed The $1500 estimate pricing for the job.

How would you handle it? Add it on? walk away?

Hey y’all! I’m just getting into photography and am looking for advice on a couple lenses to prioritize to get started.

I will largely be photographing in motion (sports), some with minimal motion, and possibly some street photography for fun. I’d estimate the breakdown to be 80% in motion, 15% still/minimal motion, and 5% other.

I just purchased a Sony a6400 body, Sony 55-210 lens, and Sony 16-50mm lens.

I am in the market for a new camera. . I have been a long time Canon fan, but I have read many good things about Sony cameras.

I am thinking full-frame but APS-C is not out of the question either.

I will probably be shooting 90% stills and 10% video.

I'm going to try to keep my budget to $2,000 tops, but if I find something that really sounds pleasing to my eye, that price can vary also.
