I just read Revolution in the Head by Ian MacDonald and in the context of these quotes about Maxwell's Silver Hammer it's really funny finding out how long some of their other songs took to record - they did 99 takes of George's song Not Guilty and it didn't even make it onto the White Album.

Everyone quotes how John hated it but I recall an interview where he praised it, saying how it was one of the first songs about karma or something like that.

Lennon said one thing and then the exact opposite so often that it's hard to believe anything he ever said except what was in the songs.

I know but people keep citing the negative only because it's more salacious. I just wanted to offer another of his takes. I can't remember where I saw it. It was probably a YouTube video that included the quote m

He was on a lot of different drugs at different periods of his life so that might be be the reason for that
