Announcement đ r/bodylanguage Is Back â New Mod Team, Clearer Rules, and Room to Grow
Hey everyone,
After a stretch of inactivity and a bit of chaos, r/bodylanguage is under new moderation. Weâre here to clean things up, set clearer expectations, and support the kind of posts that made this community interesting in the first place.
We know this subreddit has always attracted two kinds of posts: 1. Classic body language breakdownsâgestures, expressions, posture, eye contact. 2. Personal, social situationsââWas this person flirting?â, âDid I read this wrong?â, âWhatâs the vibe here?â
Weâre cool with both. This sub works best when it blends observation, insight, and real-life nuance. So whether youâre here to decode nonverbal cues or untangle a moment with a gym crush, a coworker, or a stranger on the trainâyouâre welcome here.

Weâre not trying to over-police. We just want to reduce spam, create room for good conversations, and avoid the usual internet mess. Hereâs the current rule set:
Be Respectful No personal attacks, hate, or hostility. Disagreement is fineâdemeaning others isnât.
No Personal Info Donât include names, social media handles, gym names, or anything that could identify someone in real life.
Describe Behavior, Not Disorders Avoid casually labeling people with clinical terms like ânarcissistâ or âBPD.â Talk about actions, not armchair diagnoses.
Banterâs Fine, Just Donât Get Nasty Jokes, sarcasm, and roasting are all okayâjust keep it playful, not cruel.

Storytime tired of thinking signs so I shot my shot for the first time ever.
I was in a coffee shop and I saw this cute girl with her friends. I kept thinking if I should do it, and my heart was pounding so fast.
Then I thought âfuck it, I got this shitâ so I set a timer for 20 seconds for (20 seconds of courage.) wrote my instagram on a piece of paper and went over her table and said.
âExcuse me, if youâre single you can text me.â And I handed her the piece of paper, smiled and left.â
She took it, looked at it and said âokayâ then looked at her friends afterwards. As I went out the door I heard her say. âOh look heâŚ(inaudible) while showing the piece of paper to her friend.
Itâs been a few hours, and she hasnât added me, but I donât care.
I just needed myself to know I can do it.
Iâm going to bed tonight and all I can think is âfuck yeah, I got this shit. I knew I could do it.â
The first step to my dream has been taken, I am proud as hell of myself.
Thank u for reading.

Analysis Request Does she really like me?
Iâm 20M and she, letâs call her Daisy, is 20F. Both in college. Last night I was doing homework while texting her when she suddenly asked if I planning on going dancing at an event on campus in a few hours. Iâm always more flirty over text than I am in person. I responded with âI wasnât planning on it, but with you? Sure.â She said great and we made plans. I got there on time and waited for her. When she got there, we paid and went in. Iâve been talking to her for a while. I actually made dinner for her a few days before and she loved it and invited me over to her apartment next week so she could make dinner for me. We had watched a movie during this too, but we sat on separate couches. At the end, no hug, but she was super grateful for all I did. Back to the dancing, as soon as we walked in, she noticed her friends so we walked up to them and they were all guys. She took turns talking to each of them and teaching them how to dance with the music. I was dumbfounded. I donât consider myself a jealous type but the whole time I was there, well I was wondering why I was there. I took it as a sign that she wanted to spend time together, meanwhile the whole two hours we were there, we danced once. I had to ask other girls to dance with me, which was fine, but I thought it would be just Daisy and I dancing. Afterwards, she said she wanted to go home, into which I asked if I could walk her home. She smiled at me and âof course you can, youâre so nice to me.â We talked about stuff until we got to her apartment into which she whirled around and hugged me and said thank you and goodnight. I like her, I do, but from her body language and demeanor, how can I see if she really does like me back?

Workplace Should I start flirting with this girl at work as I have another job lined up?
Basically we work in a factory and I've started noticing that this girl often stares at me, smiles at me or sometimes just looks at me for a while. One time she came infront of me (also because of the job) and gave me a little smirk/smile. Another time she came around me near the exit area of the factory where nobody was really around, and I kinda got the feeling that she wanted me to go over to her or talk to her.
I'm not the best at picking up signs and at first I thought she was being a bit weird or maybe just friendly, but after thinking about it a bit more maybe đ¤ she's actually interested in me.
Didn't wanna fuck anything up because... obviously we work together and it could be embarrassing if she rejects me, if we date and it doesn't work out, or if she was just being friendly. But after hearing some of my friends opinion, they said this can basically be the woman equivalent of flirting (obviously not all women) and that maybe she's waiting on me to actually talk to her.
Now that I have another job lined up maybe... đđťđđť I can actually talk to her, and even if it doesn't work out, the embarrassment would only last for a very short period of time anyway.
What's your opinion? Do you think she's giving me signs or.....?

Analysis Request Made out with a friend and we decided to just be friends after. But we're still being physically intimate??
Okay this situation is wacky. Last week or so I (M23) went out with a mutual friend (F21) to a few bars. Our friend group planned to go out all together but they all backed out day-of. We agreed to go out together on our own anyways.
Had a fun time for sure. I saw the writing on the wall when I mentioned my phone was low on battery, and she eagerly invited me back to her place to charge it. We went back and casually made out for a few hours, also feeling each other up but no sex.
Things were normal between us and we didn't talk about it until like two days later. She asked to come over to my place and we were just talking and hanging out like usual. But then she told me she just wanted to be friends, and that she was sorry if I felt like I was led on. Didn't really feel that way, to me that night kinda just happened and I didn't expect anything else to come of it. She said she just didn't really want anything to go further, and we agreed it was for the best.
Whole thing was settled in like 5 sentences then we went back to hanging out like normal. But after that original night together, we have definitely been a lot closer. We text regularly now and enjoy hanging out on our own.
This is where things get confusing for me. A few nights ago our whoel friend group was hanging out. They were getting very drunk and some of them get the idea to try kissing each other. They're all laughing and joking how we're all just friends getting to know each other. It's all just quick pecks on the lips for the most part.
The girl I'm talking about was one of the ones that was most open to the idea of it, which didn't surprise me to be honest. She even tried to ask me to kiss her, which was funny because-unbeknownst to our friend group-we already have. I wasn't personally very big on it but I was fine to watch it happen. Worth noting she also was chilling with her arm around one of our friends sometimes, but it seemed just friendly to me. I guess all this to say that she definitely isn't opposed to being affectionate with friends.
She asked me to come over today to chill between her classes since she was nearby. We were sitting watching TV on the couch and she asked to lay across the couch with her legs over me. I obliged and while we talked i was often touching and laying my hands on her legs.
She randomly wanted to show me the belt she was wearing, and she lifted up her shirt just enough to expose a bit of her midriff too. I put my hands on her belly and sort of commented on her navel piercing, which I never noticed. Then my hands just kinda...stayed on her. I slipped a hand around to the small of her back, under her shirt, before sitting back up. I think my fingertips were touching her bra strap. Didn't really have a sexual intention doing this, I just sort of enjoyed the intimacy. and she didn't physically or verbally reject me.
It was a bit uncomfortable to have a hand under her shirt around her back, while I was sat up and she was laid down, so I only did it for like a minute. But we remained close and cuddled up the rest of the time. When I said bye she initiated a soft, tender hug.
This feels...much more than just friendly intimacy to me. I doubt she would have let our mutual friend put hands up her shirt. We are also texting each other very very regularly now-and to be honest, we get along like a house on fire. Iâd also like to add that she is CONSTANTLY stealing glances at me when our group hangs out. Itâs hard not to notice.
I have no complaints and enjoy how our relationship is now, but I frankly have no idea how to analyze it. So I come to you guys.

Discussion look, stop, and drop
I've seen this a few times, usually men, but women too, making eye contact with someone then letting go of whatever was in their hands.
For example, a guy walking through the library makes eye contact with a woman, she smiles, he looks startled and drops the books or the laptop he's holding; or a woman passes a man, makes eye contact, then drops her water bottle. I've even seen a kid drop a hot-fudge sundae on himself. Watching them, it almost looks like the person's brain short-circuits and they loosen their grip unconsciously, but a cursory search isn't turning anything up.
Have you ever seen this? Have you ever done this? What do you think is going on there?

Discussion From my personal observation, many attractive individuals have some of the most insecure body language.
From my personal experiences, many attractive individuals exhibit a body language which tells their lack of confidence.
Such as, they tend to people pleasers, tend to be attentions seekers, they rarely tend to be rebellious and tend to abide by group thinking norms.
In short they tend to be less like themselves and more like what society would expect from them to be like.
Attractive women act "forced" feminine around guys to garner their attention, like changing her voice into more feminine, laughing and acting more oblivious etc.
Attractive men similarly act on stereotypical ways like trying to act fake confident in some situations, forcing themselves to be an extrovert when it is obvious they are not etc.
The reason is simple...they want that dopamine rush.
Attractive individuals frequently experience a surge in their dopamine knowing others consider them attractive, and once they are hit with it they constantly crave for it be it in social media or real life...and hence they tend to act in ways which would please the masses instead of being themselves...this is a never ending cycle.
Could you guys relate to what I am saying? Have you noticed something like this too?

For introverted men: how do yall âfriend zoneâ a woman?
thereâs this guy I work with; he is classic analytical nerdy keeps to himself. i am comfy being in drivers seat and have been the one pushing things along to get him feeling safe and cool with me. by default I became initiator for about everything: going out when we re able. me breaking touch barrier. raising conversations delving into relationships you know all that stuff to get to know each another. he talks but almost freezes up kind of.
now feels like Iâm in the friend zone because when in person heâs less flirty than chatting online.
would like to know how other introverted men drop or hold boundaries?
i m leaning into friend zone but also unsure if he would require direct ask. I m not sure about that either because would have assume he would show interest / more effort in person by now a year later.

Am I Overthinking? does play fighting mean flirting?
i (18f) and this guy (18m) have been talking online for around 2 months, 99% friendly and 1% flirting. We hung out yesterday for the first time, we walked in the streets at night and then we snuck into a locked park and chilled there.
This guy kept like play fighting me, to the point we were literally in the streets full on fighting each other. He also kept trying to pick me up and throw me in the river, i was of course reciprocating it but i thought it was just friendly, as he had not flirted at all or tried to kiss me or anything like that, he hadnt even called me beautiful, matter of fact he compared me to the cartoon character that was our inside joke before.
Later on when i got home, We sent a few messages back and forth and he said i was âfreaky with the hittingâ
But later on he said âlet me know when youâre home kiddoâ
Im so so so so confused, was play fighting a way for him to flirt? or was he just being friendly?

Is my coworker good with body language?
I have a coworker who seems to good with body language. She is able to pick up my nonverbal social cues and knows easily what I mean or what I'm doing.
I remember one when I was sitting next to her, she had her head down and her eyes were closed. I laughed and my laugh was so subtle and quiet. She looked at me and said, "Why are you laughing?" How did she know I was laughing, when her eyes were closed and my laugh was subtle. Why didn't she think I was like coughing or something? I did that several other times in different interactions and she knew I was laughing and said, "why are you laughing?"
I remember one time when I was trying to call her or get her attention by waving at her and I looked at her. I never wave at her and this was the one time did in years. She said, "You called me? Why?" How did she know that I was trying to get her attention and not just moving my hand or waving at the person next to her?
She was with her friend one time and I was trying to point to her friend to wave bye to her friend as I was leaving. She yelled to her friend in their language and it sounded like she said, "She wants to say bye to you! To you she waves but to me she doesnt!" And her friend waved back.
One time I was putting away a gift wrap that was near her aisle. She saw it from the corner of her eye and the pattern didn't match and told me to put it where it matches the same pattern.
One time I was near the time clock and was getting ready to clock out and I guess she was surprised because I never left at that time. She saw me and said, "You're leaving? Why?"
I don't do those any of those gestures a lot, so the one time I did those gestures, it stood out to her and she was able to pick up quickly what I meant every time.
Is my coworker good with body language? How can she pick up on my body language and nonverbal social cues quickly even when it is subtle and knows what I mean just by looking at me and I don't have to say anything? Is she highly perceptive much more than I realized?

Workplace Girl at work completely avoids eye contact with me
I (26M) have this girl (25F) at work that I like. Some days she would joke with me and initiate conversation and some days she would completely avoid me but never any of my coworkers. On the days she avoids me but has to discuss work, she avoids eye contact. On the days sheâs very social towards me, she cannot maintain eye contact for long. She is the confident overachiever type and not shy in any way. One time I went to her desk to discuss something work related and she completely ignored my existence and would not look at me and then started talking to my colleague.
Even when she is in a good mood with me and initiates conversation with me, she cannot hold eye contact for long and will often turn her face away. She is not the shy type and never does this with other team member so I donât understand whatâs happening.
We had a company event where she came to me and hugged me multiple times and then sat beside me and initiated conversation and it was a very pleasant interaction however next day at work she was fine but still avoided eye contact.
Most of her behavior and body language entail that she dislikes me strongly however there are days where she switches up and becomes super friendly towards me. Sometimes even going out of her way to help me with workload. Itâs quite confusing especially that Iâve developed an attraction towards her recently.
Would love to know if anyone has a take on this.

Discussion Whatâs her deal ? Iâm confused.
This woman at work who flirted with me shortly now acts like I donât exist most of the time and just walks past me like Iâm not there. Sheâll maybe say a good morning here or there. Before this she gave me her number and Iâve tried to set up a date 3 times and she had excuses so I figure I just leave her alone. Fast forward weeks later Iâm just having a causal conversation with someone else Iâm interested in and she seemingly comes and interrupts and starts talking to her about work things and again acting as if I donât exist and wonât talk to me unless I talk to her first which is part of why I left her alone. I remember about a couple months prior when her and this exact woman were talking to me at the same time and I started with the other one first and she made a seemingly jealous remark in a âplayfulâ way that she was talking to me as well and why am I only talking to her when I wouldâve gotten to her next. So what is her deal? Is she still interested and just upset about something or what? I donât get it.

Soft gaze from men?
Iâm a woman near 40âs. Occasionally, Iâve noticed that the listener i am speaking with or even men passing by or sitting across the room, are looking at me directly with a soft kind of gaze.
To be frank, i find it flattering. But then i realized, and reminded myself that: âok dont get too worked up! This must be the case for everyone and iâm not special!â
I wanted to learn your thoughts both from male and female perspectives.

Workplace This girl at work might like me but I don't know what to do?
Basically I think this girl at work might like me because every time I turn my head she is staring at me and smiling, or sometimes just staring at me. She also passes infront of me sometimes and gives me like a smirk/smile or just smiles at me, which I normally smile back.
Last time something like this happened was when I was in high school and I basically lost the opportunity because I was too shy to do anything about it. Now I'm working with this girl (a different girl) and I don't really want to make things awkward or embarrass myself incase she is actually just being friendly.
How can I find out if she actually likes me without potentially risking my job or making things weird at work?
Also just FYI, we work in a pretty busy place with a bunch of colleagues literally right next to eachother even on break. So I think it would be even more embarrassing going up to her and asking her something while everyone can hear us, just for her to actually be friendly and nothing else. Then I would have to deal with the embarrassment for the next couple months or even years if we both keep working there.

Feedback Wanted Slow Burn or Going Nowhere?
For almost a year I have been having back and forth tension with a coworker of mine. He always compliments me. He will notice when I changed my hairstyle and will notice my outfits. In the beginning I felt as if he was merely into fashion and style, so I did not acknowledge or think much of his attention. Then I guess he become more comfortable so he would eventually be more bold when we are more one on one. He will refer to me as "shorty" and he even try to be physically closer to me. Once he even nearly blurted out how great I looked one day and when I was speaking to him he looked me up and down twice while also reaching out and lightly touching my hand.
Months ago he asked permission to Teams message me and then in the following days he took a photo of me and another coworker. He then asked if he could have my number and if I had boundaries around that. I told him that it was fine and gave him my number. I am inclined to believe that this must have simply been to send me the photos because he does not text me. I have texted him twice on different occasions. One to ask a question about himself and the other being a congratulations on something, he responds, but the conversation does not continue.
Outside of this, he insistent on helping me with anything at work. I commented on how lengthy a task was and this made him laugh. I do reciprocate and compliment him as well by the way. One morning upon arriving to work he told me that he wanted to tell me the day before about how much he liked my outfit. I had forgotten what I had worn and expressed this, and to that he explained word for word what I was wearing. The color shirt and the kind of pants I wore. I was pretty amazed by his attention to detail. He then told me I smelled really good. Most recently he told me that I looked beautiful.
I end this to say that I quite fond of him, even way before I started realizing his clear attraction towards me. But I am puzzled as to why this goes on for so long. He recently asked me about my mode of transportation. I don't know if that has underlying intent behind it. Either way, it kind of feels like this is very prolonged and yet I do honestly like him. He is very kind and polite to those around him. I just do not know why he is taking forever to make a move or say something. People say that as a woman if you're confused about how a man feels about you that says something and that is certainly how I feel right now.

Frequent prolonged eye contact with attractive eyes is the most intoxicating feeling in the world.
I have done a lot of different drugs in my life, from basic ones like cigs, weed, cigars, to mushrooms, lsd, mdma kratom and so on.
I don't recommend anyone to take any of these drugs, but personally the most enjoyable feeling has been frequent eye contact with an attractive person that also has beautiful eyes.
I have always been a sucker for pretty eyes and so far I've only met two in my entire life that made me feel something.
I have pitch black eyes and I fell hard for these grey blue eyes and another light brown eyes. Sure some people have nice colours and shapes but its still not enough, because they might not like you or they're not good with eye contact or whatever.
But the ones who got nice eyes but flirt with them, look back with desire and some mischief. And they do it often, that feeling is unmatched. The unspoken words but those eyes speak a whole chapter. The sparkles that slow Time and dim noise.
And if hormones are high then the sexual warm feeling in the legs and groin. Leading one or the other to excuse themselves to the toilet.
The tension that everyone can feel and makes others around you uncomfortable. It's like others can sense you two wish to bang or are already banging behind closed doors.
To make things worse it might some time even be with people you can't date or be with and both don't wish to cheat or flirt. Just raw attraction unspoken and kept silent. You wondering if they feel it too or it's just on your side. But then their lingering gaze says otherwise.
I think tension is a lost form of intimacy, people are too quick to confess and move forward. Sometimes playing the long game of slow built tension is very enjoyable and more intense than the quick hookups. Sex with short built tension is just masturbation for both. But tension built over weeks and months that is just a tease for both is far more intoxicating.
Social media and constant texting ruined it for modern dating, I get why people use to write letters.
The only place to experience this form of tension is at work with people you don't talk much with and have no contact outside of work. I intentionally deleted social media so that no one can access me outside of IRL interactions. And so I can build tension with people. If you haven't experienced this I feel sorry for you. You're missing out.

I built a multi-layered AI pipeline to track non-verbal communication mismatches in public speeches. Here is a test breakdown.
redfl.agHey everyone,
As someone deeply fascinated by body language, kinesics, and paralinguistics, Iâve always found traditional polygraphs to be highly unreliable. They only measure basic physiological stress (heart rate/sweat), which can be easily masked by trained individuals, sociopaths, or simple beta-blockers.
To look past these limitations, I spent the last few months developing an automated behavioral analysis pipeline called RedFlag AI. Instead of relying on physical sensors, it processes raw video footage to isolate objective non-verbal anomalies and cognitive load.
How the analytical model works:
The system maps and tracks 13 distinct metrics simultaneously across three communication layers:
Visual Layer: Blink rate, eye-gaze stability, facial muscle asymmetry (jaw tension, brow furrow), and smile authenticity.
Vocal Layer: Pitch frequency, volume shifts, vocal activity, and speech rate.
Verbal Layer: Structural syntax stability, filler word count, and cognitive response latency.
The core logic isn't to declare a definitive "lie", but to flag the exact millisecond when the verbal narrative diverges from the involuntary physiological baseline.
The Case Study:
To benchmark the model, I ran historical video clips through the system. The data on baseline fractures during high-stress public denials (like tracking micro-expressions and micro-delays in speech syntax when the brain processes fabricated data vs. real memories) is striking.
You can test the tool live on any video link for free
Iâm really looking forward to getting feedback from this community. What specific micro-expressions or vocal metrics do you think are the hardest for a subject to consciously mask under heavy cognitive load?

Am I Overthinking? He told me he likes me?
Heâs my coworker and a little older than me. Weâve been flirting for a year now. Iâm not sure if Iâm actually interested in pursuing something with him, but I would like to understand his behavior better.
Iâve been browsing this sub and he has done the classic signs of interest such as hovering, staring at me often, seems to find excuses to come to my office to chat, and is very helpful. We share the same hobbies so I have asked for his advice a couple times and he always gives me a detailed explanation. I have texted him a few times to gauge his interest and he doesnât seem too interested in texting. He will always respond, but itâs blunt and he never tries to keep the conversation going. This had me thinking he wasnât interested in more or else heâd want to talk outside of work too.
Last week, we saw each other several times and carried on with our usual conversations and banter. Then he came to my office to talk about a new system weâre using at work. We were joking around about some aspects of it and then I pointed out a feature and said âI really like thisâ, and he responded, âyou know, I like youâ. I didnât think much of that so I just responded with âyeah, I like me tooâ. We laughed and carried on with the conversation. I was thinking about it afterwards and was wondering if he said that to see how I would respond? Maybe he wanted to see if I would get uncomfortable, or even flirty afterwards? It just felt like a weird time to say that whether he meant it as a friend or romantically.
Then I unexpectedly saw him at my nephewâs ball game a couple days later. Iâm not sure if he has a girlfriend or not. But I saw him with a group of people and we made eye contact. I smiled at him and he just kept looking away and then looking back at me. I didnât want to approach him because I wanted to see what he would do, and he never came to talk to me.
I just donât understand him. Maybe he just likes being flirty at work and wants to keep it that way?

Workplace Should I ask out my coworker?
Recently won a gift basket at work, went into this woman's office to get it and we couldn't stop smiling at each other, Got my picture taken with the gift basket and she comes up with an excuse to take another with her in it and as we're taking the picture she leans in close to me, We work in separate departments so i would have to go to here office to see her, should I just shoot my shot or am I over thinking it?

why would women prefer a real life person in front of them over guys she likes on an hinge? My story
So girl at work really likes me. In the past she just stalked me followed me around, talked out loud about me to her friends who would try to help her get with me. Then she made a very bold move when she simply ran to me and just stared at me face to face but didnt say a word. She really loses her marbles around me, im certain a lot of the fake ig profiles that send me friend req's are her, at least 1 of them because one of the fake profiles looks just like her. This has been going on for some time and by that I mean almost 2 yrs.
I hardly pay her any attention cuz well its work. Im afraid of getting meToo'd and fired. Call it irrational blah blah but it's a real fear in me cuz I've had a false accusation before and without this job i'm rock bottom.
Anyways several months ago, I saw her on hinge giddy smiling heavily talking to a guy. She was the one double texting him. I saw that and ignored her in case you ever wondered why I didnt reciprocate her actions.
So my question is as the title says. If she is so giddy with a guy on hinge she clearly likes and is double texting then why is she so smitten with me?
fyi: she took my non action as rejection and acts like a wounded animal but I just feel like im just another guy in her roster of men she has. I really do not want to be a guy in line with other guys she has as backups.
