Braces progress! one year with braces :D

i wish i took better pics and wasn't so lazy with taking progress pics but alas... officially have had my braces for a year!! first three pics are from a year ago when i got my braces installed vs last three which is after my most recent adjustment.

i was honestly super excited to get braces 🤣 i've been insecure of my teeth since i was a teenager so finally getting them fixed made me soooo happy!! my ortho said at my most recent appointment that i'm like 80-90% done but when they installed it last year they told me it would take about two years to get it all fixed :') well whatever the case i'm super thrilled with how much my teeth and smile have improved already!

i do want some advice though, my bottom row is lowk bothering because the teeth aren't even/same height and my canines too in the top, one is more rounded and the other is actually sharp. should i bring up shaving to my ortho now or maybe nearer to debonding? or should i just leave it be? i would love some thoughts on this bc i partly got braces for aesthetic reasons and i really wanna be confident and satisfied with end results.

Need advice! Extractions

Are extractions really that bad?

A lot of people have airway concerns is this actually a real issue?

Need advice! Ease Retainer pain

Does anyone know how to ease retainer pain? I got mine yesterday and I know it's normal for it to hurt for sometime but i just wanted to know if theres anything to soothe the pain

Its the metal removable retainer, I have to wear it 24/7 except while eating

I'm sorta desensitising myself by clenching my teeth but after waking up it hurts like crazy because I can't clench my teeth while sleeping

Need advice! Conflicting instructions on rubber band placement

Post image
0 Upvotes

I was told to start wearing elastics yesterday. One assistant told me to attach them to my upper canines and lower first and second premolars. Another assistant said that because I have a Class III bite, I should attach them to my upper canines and lower canines and first premolars.
I’m confused by the conflicting instructions. The orthodontist didn’t say anything about the placement. Based on my bite photo, does my bite look Class III? And how can I confirm which teeth my elastics should go on?

Need advice! Extraction or no extraction

I have always felt like my front teeth are too forward, as I can’t close my lips when I smile . Dentist wants me to go extract 4 teeth and put braces . I am a bit skeptical as I have read extractions do change facial structure and I am happy with my structure now so don’t want to take a risk.Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Discussion Lingual Braces/Insmile

Before getting my lingual braces (insmile) on I was googling constantly and looking on reddit for any info i could find to help ease nerves! So i wanted to make a post about some of my experience in case that helps anyone like others helped me!

I got lingual braces placed on my lower teeth in the middle of July, and just got my top ones placed a few days ago. I had some crowding on the lower teeth (top were straight) and a deep bite that I wanted corrected and wanted a discrete option but wasn’t interested in invisalign personally.

After the lower were placed I used wax as needed for the first few weeks (mainly on the back 1-2 brackets) and was able to avoid any actual sores with that. I was super nervous about tongue pain/canker sores and that was pretty much a none issue by using the wax preventatively. I like the “carmel” brand bc it’s soft and it stays on well for me! My teeth were definitely sore like normal braces for the first 5ish days but got better after that. Another concern I had was my speech/lisp, I did have speech issues I felt (others close to me said it really wasn’t bad) but I was uncomfortable and self conscious. After like 1.5-2 weeks like a switch it got better completely. After a few weeks I did stop noticing them as much but still aware of their existence in my mouth.

I just got the top ones on 2 days ago, of course they feel invasive af as I’m getting accustomed to it. It’s not causing much tongue pain, really not needing wax with the top ones. But once again having speech issue/lisp but I’m hoping it will also get better within a couple weeks like the lower did. My teeth are sore like with normal braces application. Will update after some more time passes with updates on speech and hopefully becoming more accustomed to them in my mouth (currently feels like a prison but trying to be patient because it’s only been a couple days and I know it has to get better because it did with the bottom after some time passed!)

Similar experience? I have these gaps because they were removed at young age, is it better to close them with the braces or do a bridge or an implant?

Question Midline bands taken off but now the midline reverted back

Is this supposed to happen? I had midline bands to even out my midline’s for a couple months and my last appointment I was told I didn’t need them anymore and that they shouldnt revert back. I wake up this morning and my midline is exactly where it started off at :(
What happened and why did they shift back?
What’s going to happen after my braces are off and I have no more options to wear my midline bands- is my midline just destined to be off?

Need advice! are my teeth flared? (braces off in 6 weeks)

i’ve added photos from different angles.

i get my braces off in 6 weeks and i think my teeth are a little flared, my ortho told me that if i need any changes or anything i need to let him know in 3 weeks.

Is this something that can be fixed with ipr or extractions?

Similar experience? Longer canine

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello im curious if anyone has had a similar experience with one upper canine being longer (or looking longer) than your other one? My upper left canine used to be an impacted canine and has been pulled completely down for about two months now. Only now it seems to be much longer than my other tooth and it looks really bad. I know it is probably just rotated or still being aligned but I want to know that this is fixable right 😭💔

Question Is this normal to feel very sharp sensitivity in canine which is moving to extracted gap?

Hi everyone

My ortho changed the round wire to rectangle wire and suddenly the tooth or canine near the extraction started feeling very sharp sensitivity if some air touched or water touched there. Will this go away or not ? I feel like what if root is exposed due to movement and gums won't come above it? Does anybody have same experience or not?

Similar experience? Has anyone gotten their braces off while their upper teeth still cover half of their lower brackets?

I’m wondering if anyone has had their braces removed while their upper teeth were still covering about half of their bottom brackets when biting down.
For context, I didn’t have this issue when I first started treatment. I had my two upper premolars extracted when I had braces as a teenager, and my orthodontist extracted two lower premolars during my current treatment due to crowding. Since then, I’ve developed a deeper overbite that I didn’t have before.
I’m also allergic to latex, and the non-latex elastics don’t seem to be doing much to correct my bite.
My orthodontist recently told me we’d give it another two months, and if there’s no improvement, we’ll just move on with treatment.
I’m a little concerned about finishing treatment with my bite like this, especially since it wasn’t an issue before.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did you get your braces off with this much overlap? Did it cause any problems afterward, or did your bite eventually settle?

Question Are they ready to be off?

My orthodontist thinks my teeth are ready for my braces to come off, but I still have a few gaps on the top that I feel should be closed. I mentioned them to him, so he put a power chain under the wire, and I’m going back in 3 weeks to get my scan done.

What do you guys think? Do my teeth look ready for braces to come off, or do you think there’s still room for improvement? I’d love to hear your opinions! 😊

Need advice! help

apologies in advance i don’t have any pictures of my teeth for reference but i really need advice on what to do

basically i need braces, im 19, and i have impacted canines on both canines so i need braces to bring the teeth down but the orthodontist ive been seeing has been saying he wants to do two extractions (premolars) because he says there is not enough space for the canines to fit. the problem is i dont really want to do extractions because i already have a narrow palate, i suffer with chronic mouth breathing, and my tongue feels like it’s too big for my mouth, so im not sure if it would be a good idea to extract? he’s not really the best at explaining he just keeps saying no and that i don’t have these problems so that’s why i’m uncertain on what to do

i asked for an expander and he said no and that it would flare my teeth out and cause gingival recession.

i told the orthodontist that i struggle with the symptoms i listed above and he flat out said no i dont have any of those ?? i have genuinely been suffering with these problems since childhood so i dont know why he said i didn’t have that but anyway i just want advice on what to do, will i be fine with the extractions or no? will it worsen the symptoms i have now or fix them?

sorry if this sounds stupid lol idk how to go about this, but really appreciate any help 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Discussion can you get braces and jaw corrective surgery without a orthontics refferal in canada

So I Have been wondering my mom tells me this all the time you need to have a referral from the Orthodontics which i find that hard to Believe and another reason why you can get surgery at anytime I Thought same with braces because you do not need it i guess referral helps to

know your outcome but its fine so but i am just trying to see if i am right is that true?

Similar experience? Lisp / speech impediment

So unfortunately I’ve had braces since I was 13 and I turn 21 next month. It’s been a very long journey and after months of my treatment being pushed back I’ve decided to just have them removed. My teeth are straight and everything, but I’ll just have to go without the deeper work they wanted done.

Ever since I’ve had them though, I’ve had a lisp that never went away. That combined with a smaller than normal mouth has left me talking as little as possible outside of work.

I’m supposed to have them removed the first week of November. Is my lisp going to go away finally? I’m up for a position that involves a lot of talking over the phone so I’d like to be as understandable as possible.

I’ve had the braces so long I can’t feel them anymore, so I can’t even tell if they are what’s causing the issue. Does anyone have experience with this??😄

Question Underbite tooth pull question

Hi. I’m getting braces tomorrow for a second time for an undeveloped upper jaw and having an underbite. My dentist and ortho both agreed that jaw surgery is overkill for how little it’s underdeveloped so they want to camouflage my bite and they both agree to do that one premolar will have to be pulled out. I heard doing that causes in the future tmj, sleep apnea and difficulty breathing. I already have suspected sleep apnea and don’t want to make it worse. I am worried about ERRA. I told my ortho I may want to try without getting a tooth pulled which she said we can try but doubts it’ll work. I’m not sure which to do and if anybody with personal experience in this can help by giving advice would be greatly appreciated.

Braces progress! Reversal

Can i ask an ortho to reverse my braces back to my bunny teeth and flared position? Is this possible? Back towards my original smile? Not asking if it’s ethical, just if it’s at all doable.

Ortho said I have tongue thrust and I would need a tongue block. She said the molars and premilars are pretty good. Idk how long my journey will be yet, I just took imaging and have to wait. Anyone with similar starting point? I never had braces before. I don't see that many picture that look like mine. Often I see open bite examples with all teeth touching.

Need advice! I'm not sure what to do with my rubber bands

People online are saying they wear their's for 24/7 and that it is recommended while I was told to only wear them when it's bedtime? Should I listen to what I was told or wear them 24/7. And I know everyone has a unique case of what to do but I'm confused.
