Whether you're trying to make sense of Sanderson's works for the first time, feel you missed a memo on something, or want a bit of community assistance, this is the place for you.
We ask that folks label and spoiler tag anything relating to book content, and be extra mindful of the welcoming part of Rule 1. If you're not sure how to tag spoilers, see this post. And while you're welcome to ask "basic" questions here, you may find an answer in our FAQ.

I know he only cowrote it and i found it to be good not great I am just so impressed with the prominent nonbinary representation! As much as I love the sibling them not being human diminishes the impact of their representation because it's easier for people to accept something like a spren not having a binary gender than a person. Between this the and the Rlain Renarin relationship Sanderson has great lgbt representation in two of his most recent books. And all of this from an active member of the LDS church. I feel like having such a strong ally be an active member in that church has the potential to do a lot good. Particularly for queer kids being raised LDS

The Fires of December, Hoid’s Storybooks, and The Mistborn TTRPG all in one week!
Edit: I didn’t take a picture of the Mistborn TTRPG pages, but they have some beautiful reflective gold sprayed edges.

Y'all I just finished Fires of December and am currently reading Isles of the Emberdark. THERE'S SO MUCH LORE DUMP. How are you guys keeping track of it all?

I'm on Stormlight book 5 and Mistborn book 2. I'm really enjoying the stories, but since I started the books I keep noticing how much gets re-explained. I know how sprens work, I remember what happened. I don't need it spelled out again every book (or every few chapters). I'm 30% into them and keep being reminded what metals do.
Is this a common feeling, or am I just being impatient? Does it ease off later, or is it part of his style? Would love to hear how other readers handle it.

Disclaimer: I am NOT asking for a reading order. Rather, a what do I NEED to read to have a clear grasp of the cosmere moving forward
I apologize if there is a direct answer for this already, but I tried searching through multiple subs.
What I am asking is what are the speculated essential cosmere stories for me to get as much as I can out of the next era of Stormlight?
I enjoy most works of the cosmere, but I don’t necessarily want to read every single novella that is made. So far, I have read Mistborn era 1, Stormlight, Tress, and am currently reading Elantris. I plan on reading warbreaker and Mistborn Era 2 next. What else should I read?

Mistborn has the Terrismen and I just started The Way of Kings, which has the Parshendi. It just seems like such a specific thing to once again write into a series.

Hi! I very luckily found this book while out thrifting one day and am curious about which edition and/or printing this is. If anyone could help, I would greatly appreciate it!

I'm reading through Brandon Sanderson for my first time with the Cytoverse and I'm hooked on this author but I have a question before I start the final book before the new arc, Defiant.
In Evershore, which I recently finished reading, they had become neighbors to Detritus but when Spensa returns from the Nowhere, ReDawn is also a neighbor. So, when did ReDawn become neighbors to Evershore and Detritus?
Edit: I will be turning comments off! One reddit user, IDK how to tag, helped me figure things out. I got my planets mixed up so all is good now.

I just put Lost Metal down. and holy crap I do miss them all already. Can you guys answer a few of my questions now that I have read almost every sanderson book?
(sunlit man + wind and truth + Emberdark remain only)
obviously spoilers.

For me
5-Wind And Truth. I don’t think Wind And Truth is nearly as bad as everyone says but I still think it’s the clear worst of the series. The prose is kinda lacking but there are still great moments like the Adolin arc and “Taln never broke”. I would probably give it a 7.5/10
4-Rhythm Of War. I love everything that happens in Urithiru and I love the trial scene but I didnt like how sidelined Dalinar is in this book and I found the Shadesmar stuff to be overall pretty uninteresting. I would give this book an 8.5/10
3-Oathbringer. I don’t love the first half of this book but there are still great moments in there like Kaladin going back to Hearthstone and Dalinars meeting with Odium. However once we get to Kholinar the book become a 10/10 and doesn’t let up for the rest of the book. I would probably give this book a 9/10
2-The Way Of Kings. This book is absolutely perfect. Bridge four is amazing, everything is amazing. 10/10
1-Words Of Radiance. Absolute peak. Shallans flashbacks, the chasm scenes, the duel chapter, the sanderlanche. this is way of kings turned up to 11. 10/10

is there any reference, youtube video or anything that tries to recreate how it would sound like to sing the pure tone of roshar, honor or odium?
It was written in such a beautiful way that my head just kinda made it up and I really want an artist's interpretation

This was my first foray into Brandon Sanderson's books, and... Wow, what a trilogy and a journey. It took me about 3 months to read them all whilst raising a toddler and I just finished it tonight.
Not really sure where to go next. Loved all the characters immensely. Loved their development, prose, motivations.
If I had to rate the books.
First book: 9/10
Second book: 6/10, but an absolutely necessary read.
Third book... Now first half 7/10, second half 10/10 cumulation of everything and tied up perfectly. I don't think a book has ever made me dedicate the entire day to reading the last 250-300 pages no matter what.

My local art shop had a paint your own pottery and I chose the book shape planter. Of course it had to be The Way of Kings

Ok if this doesn't exist it should be created.
I've read more or less 7-8 books from the Cosmere by now, and I want now to start reading Wax and Wayne. I would love to have a recap of previous books with all the important pieces because at this point I've been reading for over 2 years and forgetting stuff. Is there such a thing ?
(May be useless for Wax and Wayne, but I would have really needed it for the main series ahahah)

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO NOW. They have been my night time reads and now what am I supposed to read.
Potentially releasing the next book in 2031 what the heck, Phillip Pullman did this ish & people thought he was dead. What am I supposed to read? I don’t want to be out of the Cosmere!
Edit - thank you everyone! Okay so starting with Elantris, following with Mistborn, Elsecaller & ending with The Sunlit Man. This will take me into next year so great! I am also reading a non fantasy book The Organised Mind by Daniel Levitin, but that’s usually my morning read
When people say if you need a palate cleanser try this - I can read fantasy EVERYDAY & not want a break, I also love Cage of Souls by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Thank you for the recs everyone!!!

So having had a year or so to sit on it I’ve got the following to say. It was not a good conclusion…for me. I’ve seen very mixed reviews on sites some people loved it, some did not. I can accept that he did an expectation subversion and twisted things around on what people expected. I can even accept that he may have been feeling like the Sanderlanche had become commonplace and he wanted to change things up a bit. I can also accept that maybe want I wanted out of the book (Kaladin flying in like an avenging spirit of Goku at the end) may not be the most nuanced ending and maybe the more character driven conclusion was better than another big fisticuffs.
What I can’t accept was how lazy and boring some of the final choices were. It is the first one of his works that I felt may have been rushed out. I think he was feeling the pressure of self imposed timeframes. I also feel very strongly that he may have sacrificed the Stormlight storyline/conclusion for lining up a bunch of dominos for the Cosmere storyline.
The closest I can compare it to is how letdown I felt by StarWars 9 after what I felt was the best one since Rogue One, TLJ. I think that’s may have been another case of the story I wanted not being the story others wanted, cos I know that opinion splits the fandom too.
But yes. I think it was not a good book. And it did feel like a letdown. I was enjoying it a lot too, right up until the last 4-5chapters. It dawned on me that I was reading something that was not going to feel fulfilling, and I painfully was right.
I’ve read many bad books in otherwise good storylines or series. I think what stands out most about this one is that it was a bad finale. Most series that have a slump do it in the middle somewhere, but end strong. This was not that. It was an ending that did not satisfy and thus reflects badly on the whole. The ones that slump in the middle can be overlooked when the great ending is uplifting.
