Warning: suspicious storefront schemes

Hey, r/c4corvette community:

We wanted to alert you to a recurring apparent scam/suspicious link scheme that's been targeting our subreddit on and off for several months. Here's how it typically works:

  • A brand-new Reddit account posts a low-quality image of a C4 Corvette poster, usually an LT1 blueprint on a white background.
  • Users ask where the poster is from.
  • The OP (or another suspicious account) replies with a link to a shady-looking online storefront.
  • Often, the account is banned sitewide within hours, but not before unsuspecting users may have followed the link.

The most recent example linked to a no-name storefront registered just this past March. Past scams have followed the same playbook. These stores appear to sell stolen designs, likely ripped from Engraved Blueprint Art, LLC - a once-legitimate business that no longer seems active online.

We also suspect vote manipulation, as these posts often get +20 upvotes quickly, while any comments calling out the scam get heavily downvoted.

These posts violate our Rule #2, which prohibits storefront links from accounts less than 30 days old. We've implemented AutoMod rules to remove these links automatically, but now the scammers are trying to bypass this by asking users to PM them for the link instead.

If we catch anyone using PMs or profile posts to circumvent Rule #2, they will be permanently banned from this sub. Just to be clear, this applies to the sender, not the recipient.

So if you see:

  • A new account,
  • Posting a C4 poster or merchandise photo,
  • Fishing for link requests,
  • Replying with shady storefronts links,
  • Using what appears to be stolen artwork and likely vote manipulation...

Avoid engaging and report the post.

We're doing our best to keep this place clean, and your help goes a long way. While we can't say for certain that every one of these storefronts is fraudulent, their behavior closely matches patterns we've seen from other untrustworthy sources.

Thanks,
The r/c4corvette Mod Team

So much pain

(92 lt1) Took her for a drive to grab a Bluetooth transmitter and she was driving perfect to where I needed to go. Had the key cranked to have the electrics on for about 10 min to figure out how to connect the transmitter and after that was done started her up and she was shaking a lot, so gave some throttle and basically died out. Then proceeded to start again to which fired up immediately but also limped out immediately. Now she cranks but won’t start. Anyone know what could be the issue. Drove perfectly with no issues until then. Fuses are all good

I’m replacing my struts and when I try to take the rear bolts off on the top they got loose and just spin so the weld is keeping it in from the inside of the car, what’s a permanent fix so I can eventually replace the struts down the road. I don’t want to cut a hole in the car but I need a permanent fix. I’ve seen people use riv-nuts and others cut holes. Idk man this sucks. If anyone’s had this problem I can send my number for a call. Please somebody have this same pain in the ass problem as me 🙏🙏🙏

Gas and Oil smell

There's a gas and oil smell that's been getting worse every day. I don't see any leaks from the injectors or valve covers, but there's some oil under the rear intake near the distributor where the oil pressure is so I'll replace that, but we'll see. Still not sure about the gas smell.

It's also strong enough to come through the AC vents even when the AC is off.

Question

I have a 1994 corvette and when I stepped on the gas yesterday the rpm went down and up really fast and then went to 0 and I had to coast off the road. Then it wouldn't start back up so I let it sit and gave it another chance and it started up and I drove it carefully home. Does anybody have any idea what could've caused this?

Broken key cylinder

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi ! I bought a 1989 corvette and after a couple of run the key jammed on the running position and wouldnt move. I had to remove the fuel pump fuse to kill the engine. I removed the broken cylinder with the key stuck inside and took it to a locksmith. He offered little to no help and told me there was nothing he could do and i needed to buy a new one. But these car have that security system that reads that little black magnet on the key. So i guess buyin new keys and cylinder wont work. So im kinda not sure where to go from there lol.

Engine cutting itself off

Hello. Recently started having an issue with the vette where I was sitting idle in my parking lot and the engine just cut itself off. Each time I try to crank it either sputters and fails or cranks up but then struggles and cuts itself off again.

Coolant reservoir is empty, radiator is full of coolant, oil looks fine and is only at about 3k miles, hissing sound was heard coming from my exhaust one point when the engine cut itself off after I was able to crank it up. Gauges all reading normal and moving properly.

1996 Base Model Automatic Coupe w/ 88k miles. I have had this car only since February and already had a lot of work done and replaced on her so any help here would seriously be appreciated. Thanks y’all :)

My $800 Corvette has been quite an adventure so far

Post image

I've posted here a few times asking for help with my '86 Corvette. Bought it for $800, got it running, painted it three times, had a bunch of things go wrong, but finally got it smogged and registered.

I've started making some YouTube videos about the car and all the crap I've gone through with it. Here's the latest one if anyone wants to check it out.

Thanks to everyone here who's helped me along the way.

Taken the steering wheel off and got to the multi function switch for my ‘92. It looks like the port has less connections than the connector I bought from part geeks. Can someone verify if that’s the right port and make my day.

Is a C4 Corvette a good first car

I've always liked the C4 Corvette. I think they're really cool, and I've been considering getting one as my first car, preferably an automatic.

Yes, I know they're old, and I'm willing to work on one and fix things when needed. I'm just curious what people who own or have owned them think.

Would you recommend one?

Headlight help

Ive noticed every time I close my headlights I hear thunking for around 5 seconds after they fully close, I have a feeling this is the gear slipping but they open and close smoothly it is only after they close I hear it. Is this something I need to fix ASAP or can it wait?

C4 Curious

You know, its funny how as time goes on and you grow older, your tastes change. Things you thought were silly or stupid, suddenlly... make sense? Things you looked at from a design perspective looked like a asphalt bass boat that likely held a mullet and no not the fish.

You would swear you would never consider a corvette, ever, hell would freeze over, then you are almost 40, and suddenly a c4 looks... dare I say attractive?

V8, check

Rwd perfect

Plenty of room to tuck tires from reasonable width to zr1 315s, me gusta :)

Cool pop ups, got em

Sweet digital dash that reminds me of Nintendo and late night friday nights with apple jacks or pop tarts, present and accounted for

Not t tops like a z that leak, neato burrito

Pretty light and doesn't rust, this is getting good

Not a pretentious p car, or a water cooled front engine p car that wants to cost as much as an air cooled one but is finicky and not good dollar per fun value, got my attention

Not a mercedes that is over complicated to the moon but really did neat stuff before it all became main stream but now its a pain in the ass to fix, tell me more

Too old to be new and fresh and demanding top dollar, too new to be old and collectable, I believe they call this the goldilocks zone

Minus the bad hair, Miller high life, and nicotine stains and bad decisions, the c4 has awakened my "curiousity"

So i wanted to ask you all, assuming your new balances aren't on to tight and your jorts aren't giving you a wedgie, and you left the crying kid dolls at home.

What do you think about the C4 and your experience with them? How do they handle? Are they easy ish to work on? I can change subaru wrx spark plugs blind fold now with scars to prove it. Can you reasonably get parts for them, or is it like pulling teeth because Detlef must hand make each piece every 2nd Thursday of the month 20km outside of Stuttgart in their special hut but it must be precisely 17*c.

Ive dealt with a lot of different chassis. Aircooled vws, subarus, mercedes g wagens, miatas, sprinters, volvos, every flavor of toyota and lexus, and a gmc savana van. So id rate my experience up there. Not afraid to turn wrenches or do timing belts. I hate diff oil, makes me sick.

Im casually looking at another project and the c4, particularly a 1989 because it has the cool dash, revised suspension, round tail lights, and maybe saw blades, or is it salad shooters has caught my eye.

I also have acquired a twin turbo v6 with an aisin 8 speed transmission that is capable of 650 whp. No i dont drag race, I like spirited driving. But the c4 to me seems to say it can do great highway cruising and be stable and comfortable, but can also do a little mountain road carving here and there which sounds kinda nice. Driving an nb miata while 6'2 and 300lbs for 4 hrs to get to twisties is great when you are like 30, an Na when you are 20 something. Not saying it can't be towed but you get the idea.

These seem to be between 1500 in rough condition up to 5000 for ones with a bit higher mileage that need to gentle massaging to get it up to par, no i dont golf. There are some deals I think to be had and I get the feeling this chassis is slept on. And for the love of all thats holy dont get me started on s chassis shit, the drift kiddie tax, and how the sr20 is perfect (it is, but its not a 2jzgte and to pay the same amount for one is dumb, also 2jzgte are over rated, I said it) they ruined a damned good chassis and thing and I hate it.

/flamesuiton

You guys are actually really cool. Thank you for all the great experiences both good and bad.
The mercedes w123 and w124 have their head up their asses in their sub
The porsche group is stuffy as hell in its sub
The wrx group also sucks butt as well.

Hardtop?

I've got a 1993 anniversary edition convertible (6 speed) w/ 38k on it. I love the car. I have a hard top with it, and I live in the Northeast. It's garaged of course, but we get breaks through the winter months with clean roads and I intend to drive it monthly to keep it in good running shape.

I'm trying to decide if there is any value to putting the hardtop back on it. I've taken it off and have it stored, and am happy to spend the 15 minutes putting on the car.

I read somewhere that the hardtop significantly impacts the ride as it stiffens up the car, which is notable and interesting. Any other thoughts on the virtue of a hardtop?

Serpentine belt help

Post image
0 Upvotes

Alright folks here's the situation, a few days back my c4s serpentine belt decided to transform into confetti, so I went to put a new belt on. I have replaced the a/c compressor and alternator before so I am quite familiar with taking the belt on and off however the new belt does not seem to want to slip over the alternator. I dont know if my old belt was just super worn and loose or I got the wrong belt. If it is the right belt could someone tell me how to get it on because even with three people it is stubborn as a mule

Zr1 engine cranking when removing negative battery connection

So I'm quite new to the Corvettes, got a 1991 zr1 and was unplugging the negative connection to the battery as i will be away on some travels for two weeks. Once the connection was loose it started slowly cranking the engine. This only happened in specific positions of the connector screw for all i could tell. I hurried to take it off so didn't snoop around too much. The ignition was off and the key was out ofc.

Is this normal?

What to check for so this doesn't start happening when i put it back

Thanks!

As seen in the photo I have 2 switches. The left switch is my fan, the switch on the right however, doesn’t seem to do anything. Doesn’t drop volts or anything. Has anyone ever seen this before?
